I realized one late afternoon that I needed to clean up for an important meeting the next day. Scrolling through Yelp, not many nail salons were open until 7pm, but one with good ratings stood out. I called and they said they could see me in 20 minutes. Long story short, Chic Studio did an amazing job. Brenda was kind enough to let me make an appointment after hours. I also didn't realize you can't tip with card (so I didn't have cash on me) but she allowed me to tip with my card anyways. So the customer service was amazing. I have had my gel nails for 3 weeks and they still look incredible. No chipping, no hair getting stuck under my nails, didn't go outside of my nails. I didn't believe gel would stay on my nails until I tried this place! Hanna and Kim are the best. You can't go wrong with any other person because they are all good at what they do. Hanna is great with designs. I've only had my nails done by her once. she pays attention to detail and you can tell she's a perfectionist. Extremely disappointing! After being a loyal customer and even writing great reviews on here I was turned away because the lady made a mistake on the time. I called on Wednesday to make an appointment for Friday at 2:30pm. I got there right on time and she tried to argue with me that I told her 2pm. Which I would not say because I don't get off work until 2:30pm! So because of her double booking she turned me away. I was very happy with my pedicure. I have no complaints about the service provided. It is misleading that there are pictures on yelp of toes with pictures on them. I asked for a palm tree drawn on my big toe like I saw on one of the pics on yelp and the women working there were not able to draw it. It doesn't change the fact that I'm happy with the service provided but they shouldn't have those pictures on there if they are not able to do them. Based off the stellar reviews by my fellow Yelpers, I ventured into this little salon. All I needed was a polish change... I thought that would be easy enough. I mean, after all it IS a nail salon... Perhaps I was expecting too much. They did have a decent selection of polishes. Sadly, that was the highlight of my experience. I entered into an empty salon. I stood there momentarily and waited for the only other young lady (employee) in the salon to acknowledge me. She seemed aloof yet extremely curt once informed all I needed was a polish change. Nothing fancy. Don't try to sell me any add-ons. I JUST want my polish changed. Another young lady appears and stands beside the booth. I'm no manicure virgin. I know she wants me to sit there but it would be nice if she said "Please have a seat. You may sit here. Choose wherever you'd like to sit. Sit your @$$ down..." Something... ANYTHING... That would be a no... She began to remove my red polish... There's residue EVERYWHERE. On my fingers, under my nails, still on my nails... I'm thinking okay, maybe she's going to circle back and clean them up... ummmm no... she proceeds to slap on the base coat before I can even get, "could you please remove all of the polish." Base coat done... first coat done... "Would you like two coats of polish?"... (DUMFOUNDED STARE..) DUH!!! Second coat done... no top coat. I came here to get my wedding nails done based on the reviews from yelp! I had called and made an appointment with Hanna because everyone was raving about her work! First, THE MAP LOCATION ON YELP IS INCORRECT! its further north on Aviation towards Manhattan beach Blvd. On the west side of the street. I got lost based on Yelp's map! When I arrived, I was told that my appt was not booked with Hanna!!! :( Whhat?! These are my wedding nails we are talking about!! I told the tech that I use a combination of the light pink in the clear gel. I believe she was hesitant, because she kept trying to force the hot pink gel on me. I informed her that I use a combination so that the base would look natural. She proceeded to pile on tons of pink gel, trying to convince me that it looked good. I'm sure she could see the disgust on my face. Thick pink gel and horrible filing....Why do i have to say they aren't the same shape, these are lop sided, can i get these thin out like the others? Some nails are pinker than others....Then the speaking in a foreign language. Day 2 the gel has chipped off. Im beyond pissed. They are the worse. Walking into the salon, I was very content with finding how clean and professional the salon looked. The workers were very friendly and attentive to my nails/toenail needs. Let me tell you...my nails are not in the best condition since I fail to care for them very well but the manicurist did such a wonderful job nevertheless. She even offered to do a free flower design since they having some promotion going on. Overall, I am very pleased with my mani-pedi especially with the price I paid. Not impressed... Why is it so difficult to find a legit nail salon in the South Bay?! I yelped Chic Studio to see if I could schedule a mani and pedi right after work. I called a couple hours ahead and they were really nice and said they would be free... Perfect!..until I walked in. I've been to every type of nail salon.. Hole in the walls, chain nail salons, spa nail salons and nail salons in multiple countries and states... I probably should work for the state cosmetology board.. But I digress... If you don't know what autoclave is and your nail hygiene is important, google it. Needless to say, Chic Studio clearly doesn't have one. I'm pretty sure they took the tools they used on me to the next station when someone came in after they were done with me...gross. Their color selection is pathetic.. so many of the bottles on display were clearly old and really shouldn't be a choice. Thankfully, I brought my own. They used a super poor quality base and top coat, which has left bubbles on every single one of my mani nails... I'm not sure if that's because of the poor quality or poor application. The few pros.. They have private parking behind the building and they take credit cards. Yup, those are the only pros.. Don't go here if you want a clean, legit mani. Go somewhere else.. I was shocked that they didn't try to up sell me (considering the full set is more expensive) but rather aid me in making the right choice for my nails. Jaim, the girl who worked on my nails was FANTASTIC! She took her time, asked my preferences, made sure each nail was done correctly and evenly. She spent a lot of time making sure the color was perfect. Not just a two coat and be on your way deal. She also spent time making sure my cuticles were cut and perfect, which really is such an awesome thing for me since my cuticles grow fast. First, I never go anywhere but my tried and true Kay on the east coast in NJ. Over a decade later, I can honestly say I have found a way to get to get to her. But a last minute business trip had me freaking out trying to find someone to do my nails in California. Thank god for yelp! I'm staying in Manhattan Beach for a few days. So I arrived into LAX around 7 today. NAils were a mess. So I'm desperate. Had to drop my bags to the place I'm staying at. And find a salon ASAP. Here comes Yelp! I searched. Found Chic Nails. Called the salon. Find out that they close at 7:30 today. I was like " ok. Forget it. No way I can make it. I need gel manicure. Design. And pedi." She said "when can you get here?" I said "15-20 min." And she said. "Ok, come." Well, I get there at 7:30. And she had to figure out what was on my nails, since I use Young UV gel in NYC. Because, they don't do that type of nails, here. So 2 hours and 20 minutes later, she matched what my east coast nail technician did, even though not many people use the paint on builder gel in Cali much. Plus, I have cute bling bows. And she had a perfect gunmetal grey color. She was so nice. Everyone was who serviced me and a girlfriend of mine (who I sprung on them when I arrived). Very awesome family owned shop! Hanna is so sweet. I always call the shop and she says "Hi Danica" (she knows it's me when I call her now) and I say, "can you see me right now?" (I conveniently live 3 mins away) and she says "yeah come now!" ...15 minutes before close! I trust her with my nails so much that I let her do whatever she wants and I always love it. Get compliments from men and women alike. $28 for a fill and designs--awesome! Her mom always gives me a hug and her adorable daughter will sit in my lap while my nails are drying. My acrylics last almost 3 weeks and are never yucky and thick--they looks amazing and natural, and they FEEL natural. Great place to get your nails done. Wide range of colors for gel manicures. I've gone to a lot of places and the gel would just crack within a week. Here they actually use some good quality stuff. They take extra precautions like using plastic covers for their foot soak tub & the nail instruments/tools are being sterilized prior to use ( I saw the manicurist switched sets in between customers). Only one thing: next time I will ask her to leave the callous remover gel on longer, I feel that my heels are still a bit rough from the summer heat. Overall the gel polish turned out great! I actually really love this place. It's on Aviation & Manhattan Beach Blvd, literally right when you turn left, parking available in front of the salon & also in the back! So far I've only gotten Acrylics here and each time has been great. Hannah & a man (her husband I believe) take the time to really make sure that every single detail is correct. Nails are always evenly shaped, and they make sure it isn't super thick. They are great at following instructions. All of the staff is actually very friendly, can't complain at all. The ONLY reason why I'm giving them 4 stars is because sometimes their gel polish chips? I've noticed that sometimes the base coat is not applied, I have no clue if that affects whether or not the gel will stay, my two friends that have gotten their gel mani's here had chipped nails in less than 2 weeks. I'm not sure who did their nails at the time but I know as far as my experience goes, my nails have always looked great! I usually get a full-set with gel polish and the total comes out to $32 (I think!) and for fills with gel polish it totals up to $28!
