After two other music stores couldn't fix my Mic stand (though one did recommend the Chicago Music Store) I found help at that very awesome old, old old place. I bought things there way back in the 50s. You could always find what you needed at that store. Later I shopped at other stores nearer to my home. But when nobody could fix my droopy mic stand I was told to try Mike at the Chicago Store downtown. It was thrilling to see it still there, just like all those years ago, with every instrument you could want, and parts besides. Mike handled my mic stand almost with reverence, telling me what a fine stand Atlas made as he took it all apart and cleaned it, repairing whatever made it droopy, and assuring me it will last a lifetime. (Another store has told me it couldn't be fixed and wanted me to have a cheap plastic stand, suggesting I throw this old one in the trash.) I am so happy to find this venerable, historical place all organized and busy selling and repairing instruments. Now I appreciate the mic stand I have and will once again shop there for whatever I need. It was good to see a Levkowitz at the helm, because I'd bought lots of things from his father years ago. I have been renting a trombone for my son from this location for 2 years. There has never been a single complication. I brought the trombone in once as it got damaged. Chicago music store fixed the instrument very quickly, at no charge. My son said it played even better after getting it back. This weekend, we went into the store to find a very particular music book my son was looking for. The book was not available at the location We went to. I did not have the ability to drive to the other store that day, nor did I have the ability to come back the following Monday. Instead of the normal service I have come to expect from places these days, the owner of the store, Mark, completely understood my situation and offered to bring the book to my place of work first thing Monday morning. Monday morning, right on time, Mark came to my work and brought me the book so I could take it home to my son. This place has been in Tucson so long, they know all the different schools, music teachers at those schools, as well as the music programs happening around town. Wow, read some of the reviews below and wondered if they were in the same store with the same staff. I have always been treated in a friendly manner and greeted every time I walk in the store. I rented my first clarinet then a flute there 30 years ago. Rented a flute for my daughter a few years ago. Everything was up front and clear both times about the price, the condition, and the terms. I have bought music and accessories there as well. You can almost always work with the managers to get a deal or terms you can afford. What I really love about the store staff is that they do care about you getting what you want or need and helping encourage all musical talent. Yes, it has been dusty and disorganized. There is a lot of inventory and if you talk to someone, they will help you find it. Harry Potter fans, it is like a visit to Olivanders Wand shop. It is magical. Reminds of the way local businesses used to be and is always worth a visit when I am downtown. read more

I have been a customer at the downtown Chicago Store for many years and was really excited when the east side opened because it was closer. My experience has always been positive at both locations. Sales people were available to answer questions and make helpful suggestions. Once we had a "musical emergency" before a performance. I called and the store owner answered on his cell phone, met me at the downtown store, took care of the problem and didn't charge me anything! I take lessons from Damon, the store manager at the east side location and he has been great. I really like that they don't push me to buy something more expensive than I am comfortable with. I always check prices before I buy and I have found their prices to be comparable to those at the big box stores and on the internet. One of the best things about this music store is that they are locally owned and I believe in supporting local business whenever I can. read more

I've been a customer of the Chicago Music Store for years and years. I have received outstanding treatment. When I was teaching music in the schools and was promoting recorders, Phil and Joe let me take a bunch of them to sell to the kids and had me pay them after the kids bought them. When I was buying a Moeck recorder for my wife, Phil ordered it for me at a HUGE discount. Another time they helped me out was when my french horn needed its valve bearings swaged and Steve Powell, the brass repairman at the time did the job perfectly. They also sent off my horn to the manufacturer to have the rotors plated and clearances restored; the valves got perfect compression back. So my experience with the Chicago Store has been excellent, and I'm confident that, even though Phil and Joe are deceased, Mark will make sure it stays that way. read more

Living in MS, away from our grandkids, we often "jump thru hoops" to get things done for them. We had spoke to the oldest two weeks ago and found out that he would be learning the sax at school. He was thrilled. When we talked to him on Labor Day, we found out that it would not happen due to costs. That just would not be suitable for us, so I got online, found the store's number and called. Holiday conversation, personal service, and, long story short, got a call this evening that the sax was hand delivered to school, and the "thank you, thank you, thank you" was wonderful. Dropped off my Strat to have a repair and was greeted by very friendly staff. The volume pot needed replacement and new strings. The tech called later and we chatted about the scope of work and he told me I could pick it up that afternoon. Wow ! Very fast service ! I told him that since I live in Green Valley that I would just pick it up the next morning. Went to pick it up and the same, very friendly staff, greeted me. Went back to the shop area and chatted with the tech for a bit and thanked him. Price was very good. Service was top-notch. Anytime you need something for your instrument go to Chicago Music, downtown Tucson. You will be glad that you did. read more

I have always had good experiences at Chicago Store, and I've worked for a variety of theater companies in Arizona from the old Wilde Playhouse which was just across the street from Chicago Store to Phoenix Theater. It's a great place to find old music, fakebooks, showtune selections and tons of fun surprises. The staff as always been super nice, and growing up in NYC I was definitely a fan of the building and even the clutter. I am in Omaha, NE right now but moving back to Tucson next month and looking forward to revisiting Chicago Store. I recently heard that they were shaking things up and making a few changes and I look forward to seeing it. read more

Jesus what the hell happened? I recently dropped in to take a look around Chicago and didn't recognize the place. As someone without the time to dig through mountains of crap to find a pack of guitar strings, I was pleased to see someone finally got the floor (or, at least the 1st one) cleaned up. The staff was friendly and seemed knowledgable enough (I'm not exactly a savant, but they were able to answer my questions/help me find what I was looking for), and I was pleased to find upon returning home that they didn't even gauge me on the few random things I grabbed (pack of strings, slide & a cheap pedal). read more

I have 2 sons, 7 and 5, who recently started lessons....guitar, sax and drums! All 3 teachers have been absolutely great with my boys and they love coming. The manager, Damon, has been patient with us since we are new to the world of music we have needed a little extra guidance. The owner, Mark, has also been very helpful. I had heard a lot of good things about this store and was floored when I walked in. The place is huge with a great selection of instruments. I wanted to buy a uke for my dad as a birthday present and the salesman was very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient and I found the prices competitive with my research on the internet. I ended up buying a Luna uke, I even got a free bag and 2 free lessons for my dad. Very impressed. Will definitely go back when I need anything musical. read more

I've shopped at many music stores before but I've never seen such a large collection of older and unique instruments as this place. Recently it's been remodeled and the store looks great! I believe the repair department has some of the best technicians in southern Arizona. Mike has done very fine work on my viola and cello, and I've heard great things about the other repair techs. read more

Two stars for the atmosphere (the old smell, equipment etc) I have to say though, there is next to nothing I would want to buy here. No interesting guitars, nothin'! The staff are like zombies that could care less that you are even there. I did hear however that the Lutheir is one of the best around.
