This place seems to be designed for brunch cocktails. Unfortunately we did not try any. The service was great and the portions were huge but we were disappointed with our dishes. We ordered a pulled pork hash skillet, a duck Benedict over waffle, and an orange juice. The Benedict was so overdone it was tough. The meat had little flavor and the best part of both dishes were the potatoes. They were pretty good potatoes. We happened to be across the street from this location for an appointment and noticed the "waffles" sign from the window. My daughter had been craving waffles that day so we were excited when we went in. The server mentioned they serve intelligentsia coffee so I got mine in a to-go cup. The coffee was SO bitter. Okay, I'm not a coffee snob or anything so I added some cream and splenda to help it out a bit. That made it a little more drinkable but not at all what I expected. We decided on the waffles flight and the cinnamon roll waffle, which basically was just a plain waffle with apple cinnamon topping. Not what I expected from a "cinnamon roll" waffle. I was actually expecting cinnamon baked into the waffle, which I did not taste. So here is the problem, their waffles are not flavored. They're just plain waffles with food coloring and the topping is supposed to make them whatever flavor they advertise them to be. For example, the red velvet waffle was just as tasteless as the cinnamon roll waffle, same with the green tea waffle. Rice was sticky and burnt (as if someone scraped the bottom of the pan); eggs burried by generic salsa verde, black beans had no taste. 2) "Avacado" Toast: looked great, until you moved the greenery hiding what is below. Prepackaged guacamole that looked and tasted to be at least a day old drenched in the oil from the buratta. Entire Tomato, cut in half was placed on the Toast as well (tomatoe probably the best tasting thing out of the mess). Bottom line: I could not and did not finish any of my food. I did not think it was possible to ruin breakfast food. If this continues, at their prices, this place will not last at this location. The Healthy Skillet is so good and seasoned, I substituted the feta cheese for american and it was the best decision ever. The Apple Cinnamon pancakes were hood, only wished the topping was serviced hot. The Blue Mofo was STRONG, so if you like a strong drink this one is for you. Visited opening week and I'll give them the benefit of a doubt that they are having opening jitters - so I'll revise upon a revisit. So here are a few problems: Upon sitting down, I noticed the table wasn't cleared from the previous party - used tea bag sitting in the creamer bowl. Next, the duck benedict was supposed to come with fruit - I had to remind the wait staff as they didn't provide it - they then brought it out - I then noticed that the neighboring table didn't get theirs either but didn't complain and my prompting did not seem to jog the staffs memory. Next the green tea waffles were supposed to come with ground pistachios sprinkled on top (listed on the menu) and presumably syrup (I assume) and didn't. When asking the wait staff about the pistachios their response was it was baked in. Since I've been to their south loop location I know this is not the case. Now for the taste - the green tea waffles had zero green tea flavor - just an artificial green dyed bland overpriced waffle like a St Patrick's day joke special. A Great place for breakfast or lunch in Chicago! We were in town watching our 2-grandkids and looking for a place for breakfast while they attended Soul City Church Camp for kids. Google led us to Chicago Waffles and we weren't disappointed! We sat outside the first day and the 2nd... then brought our grandkids over for lunch at least 3 times that week. The pancakes, waffles, corn beef hash, eggs, bacon and turkey bacon were all excellent. Good coffee and a great selection of teas for my wife. Met a few colleagues for a brunch meeting. Service was friendly (though our food wasn't served at the same time, which is always awkward), coffee was fine. Water tasted bad, but I know Chicago water occasionally has an 'earthy' or a 'chlorine-y' taste, so I'm not sure if this was a restaurant problem or not. I was excited to try the short rib and cheddar waffle ($16), but gosh, it was disappointing. The short rib itself was actually cold (the waffle was only slightly lukewarm) and took a fair amount of effort to cut with a knife. I've never needed anything but a fork for short rib before. There were only a few shreds of cheddar and the chives were hardy discernible. It ended up very dry; the bit of juice from the short rib wasn't nearly enough to moisten the meat, let alone the waffle. Not sure if it was just an off day or what. read more

Terrible service. Sat for 10 minutes before someone came over. Other servers were too busy taking photos and talking on the phone. The food was awful, under seasoned and not worth the price. I ordered the avocado toast and a lemonade for delivery (through GrubHub). I did not receive my lemonade (GrubHub said no one gave it to them, and the restaurant said its not their issue so I have to contact GrubHub).
