We've been here a few times, and had generally good experiences prior. But the last time will be our last. The service was just execrable from start to finish. They couldn't even be bothered to provide everyone their own menu. Our server was more concerned with twiddling silverware in front of the takeout counter than checking on her patrons or making sure they received what they ordered. Half our orders were wrong, and when informed of that the responses were "well...you started eating it" (direct quote) for one and "the kitchen already put away that ingredient" (paraphrase for brevity) for the other. They claim to offer what I consider some of the best coffee in the world, Julius Meinl from Vienna - but from what I tasted it may as well have been expired dollar store brand served in a pretty Meinl "tasse." Perhaps the coffee was so old and stale because nobody ever came around to see if patrons wanted refills (or more water). To cap the experience, the server threw a tantrum at me before we left, belting out lines such as "I don't need this job" and repeatedly sarcastically screeching "have a great day" or something to that effect at my children and me as we left. Overall the experience was so bad that I emailed them, something I have never done to complain about a restaurant before. Quite a while later I received a response signed by the "management team" that was half gaslighting and half patronizing. EDIT: Well this is really something! In Chicago Waffles' reply to me, "Lemke T." blatantly lies about remaking my wife's incorrect entree. Here it was allegedly remade in "5 minutes." Yet in Chicago Waffles' email reply to me, they wrote, "Our records indicate that our server recognized the mistakes and offered to remake your food. We understand that you might have chosen not to proceed with the remakes." While that is not accurate, I guess one could have inferred "but if you really insist we will get you what you actually ordered" from the server's complaint that the incorrect entry had a bite taken out of it. Also, yes just like lying in Yelp review replies it's ALSO unethical (at least) to add junk fees to the bill without prior disclosure. However, our primary issues this visit, highlighted in this review my and original email to them were the abysmal service, inaccurate order fulfillment, and terrible allegedly Meinl coffee. The undisclosed junk fee thing was just the rancid cherry on top. read more

Nice breakfast and lunch restaurant in the West Loop! My girlfriend and I carried out a few times during quarantine from Chicago Waffles. The food carried well and we always enjoyed our meals. Last week we dined in and so glad we finally came in. The service is so friendly and welcoming. Our food we ordered came out quickly and we were really impressed. This is a great breakfast diner/brunch spot with typical fanfare of waffles, pancakes, egg scrambles, breakfast burritos, and sandwiches. Their roasted potatoes and waffles are great. There are countless configurations and flavors for their skillet items. They have mimosas and bottomless Lavazza diner coffee. So I'm terms of breakfast fare offered it was very standard and well done (like Wildberry or Yolk). What stood out about West Loop Waffles to us was the customer service was above and beyond. Drinks were rapidly refilled, any and every side we could need was brought to us, we were checked in on often. Most importantly, our 9 month old son was trying to cause a storm by throwing his toys onto the floor and at times the waitress would come by and pick up his toy for him and we'd apologize and she'd say "no problem" with a smile. The smoked salmon itself is a very salty, but with the salad is ok. The waffle is not crispy, the pistachios on the top of the waffle is not fresh. The waffle on the take out item chicken with waffle is no good when I got home. The chicken portion is small, cut down half than before. I ordered the chicken with waffles. The batter for the waffles is supposed to have bacon in it. Unfortunately they are really skimpy on the bacon. I didn't see much bacon nor did I taste any. There were three chicken nuggets on top of the waffle. They were nice sized portions. They were cooked perfectly and were juicy, however they did lack flavoring. The chicken was very bland. The plate comes with regular syrup and spicy syrup. I can't comment on spicy syrup because I didn't try it since I am not crazy about spicy food. In order to get flavoring on my chicken and waffles I drowned my food in syrup. Oh and the "more" bacon offered on your waffles is only one small strip. The coffee is supposed to be Intelligentsia. It was quite busy and loud, maybe since it was St.Patrick's weekend. Luckily since I made reservations we got seated a bit quicker. We waited for about 15 almost 20 minutes for the lady to take our order in which really isn't ideal but again, busy weekend so understandable. I got the berry waffles with a side of sausage link and my goodness were they absolutely delicious. I think even the waffles by themselves without the fancy stuff would be delicious too. Ordered ahead for takeout and it was ready by the time I got there. They have a pretty wide selection of breakfast menu items. It'll require you to come back to try what else they have to offer. I appreciate that they cater to an array of different palates. They have something savory, something sweet, something meaty, and even something more healthy too. I would love to enjoy the outdoor patio next time I come here. It was quiet and sunny. It's a nice place to enjoy your breakfast/brunch on a lazy Sunday. Employees were friendly and quick to respond to the customers needs. I ordered their chilaquiles because I don't often see this offered with meat. It pulled pork was soft and juicy. This place is really good. Trust me. When we sat down for a brunch, we were impressed by the length of the menu. They have everything you could ask for and more. So good. The waitress was so sweet. She ran us through some of the house favorites and each of them sounded better than the one before. Known for skillets, which looked really good. After having a horrible experience trying to get a table at Eleven City Diner, we walked around the block to Chicago Waffle and were able to get a table for our party of 13 within 15 minutes of arriving. We were able to stay as a group with having enough room to eat and move around without being smooshed. Now for the food, they have an amazing selection with lots of gluten free and vegetarian options! They were also celiac friendly and were very accommodating. Updating my review to a single star due to my encounter with a Waffles waitress today. This review update will be stryctly on custy service and not the food. Even though the food was terrible the first time, they had just opened so I was open to coming back and giving them a go since I live in the neighborhood. After today, nope. I grabbed a smoothie bowl at my lunch from a neighboring spot, Fruvé. I wanted to sit my six month pregnant self down outside, and there was no one AT ALL sitting in the Chicago Waffle outside seating area so I didn't think this would be an issue. Apparently it was an issue, and a waitress came out with a fake smile asking if I wanted a menu. No, I sure didn't. I'd been sitting there about 10 minutes already, so I knew they didn't think I wanted anything. She proceeded to tell me that if I wasn't dining there I couldn't sit there, and that she was sorry. I was annoyed by this because 1, nobody was sitting out there, 2 it was hot af out, and 3, I wasn't offered the option to move if someone needed the seating. I understand someone taking a paying customers seat, however, there was NO ONE OUT THERE. Lol. Like, not a single soul. Straight crickets folks. The coffee latte is good. Instead of the popular waffles, I was too adventurous to get the green tea waffles. Unfortunately the green color doesn't look like green tea, it doesn't feel like natural color. Maybe some artificial colors. Also, there is no taste.
