You can always depend on Chicago Waffles. Don't get my wrong, I like Yolk and Wildberry. But those places are sometimes the reason you don't get up go out to brunch. Long lines...checking your phone for a waitlist app. So much work for pancakes! Is it really worth the hassle?! Not when you have a perfectly good place like Chicago Waffles around the corner. I tend to gravitate towards their lunch items than their breakfast items. Their burger is really good. I was surprised how good it was. I also had their special mac and cheese with bacon and brisket. Also, really good. I don't think you get as much value as you do with other place for their breakfast items. But it's pretty solid and some pretty good creative breakfast items. In town to celebrate a wedding for our family. Thus, a large group for Brunch. Service was attentive and took care not to rush us since they could see the excitement and merriment. Water was frequently replenished, coffee not so much. Only complaint - the grooms meal was forgotten/never delivered and once a replacement was made by the kitchen - we watched him eat while we digested. Portions are huge, well presented and tasty. I decided to order the Bacon Chicken & Waffles and I was overjoyed by how fluffy the waffle was, how flavorful the chicken was, and how the bacon wasn't too crunchy, too chewy, or too salty. Just moved to Chicago this past weekend and my friend recommended this as a breakfast spot to try. Was literally blown away by how good the food was. Had the granny special crepe and was in heaven. 2nd Review. This place was my go-to for breakfast. They offer an expansive waffle menu of all kinds with interesting toppings and flavors, both savory and sweet. Their menu also includes your standard egg-your-way, omelets, skillets, sandwiches and smoked salmon plates. Yesterday, I originally ordered the avocado toast, which includes some of my favorites foods, Poached egg, Brioche bread, pesto, Burrata cheese, mashed avocado, roasted tomatoes, watercress. Can't go wrong with these toppings, right? I was sadly mistaken. The watercress which was used to top the dish was old. The leaves were yellow and green. Yellowing leaves mean the greens are old. Why would you serve this to me and several eyes had to have seen this prior to bringing it to my table. I sent it back and ordered the salmon plate, which I thought was simple enough. Wrong again. The salmon tasted ok, but the onions, tomatoes, and cucumber were sliced way too thick. I don't know anyone that would appreciate a 1/4" thick slice of vegetables for a sandwich. The onion alone would overpower the delicate taste of the smoked fish. I usually like chopped eggs and capers with my salmon plate, but I was fine not having it, as it wasn't offered on the menu. Once again, I sent the plate back to the kitchen, but I kept the toasted bagel. I also asked for coffee but did not receive it. So, my breakfast consisted of a toasted bagel, cream cheese, and a sip of my daughter's mimosa. I was terribly disappointed. Honestly, if I were the manager, knowing a customer had sent a plate back to the kitchen twice, I would have addressed the issue personally. But, he didn't. You can't force good customer service...it is what it is. But I can choose not to return. My daughter opted for the Chicken & Waffles with spicy syrup on the side. She seemed very happy with her meal choice. I guess she saw the disappointment in my face, so offered to split her plate. Nah, go on and enjoy your breakfast, my dear. I need to mention this one thing. There should be a policy in place where customers cannot talk and/or video chat in a manner that disrupts other customers. The guy sitting next to us talked the ENTIRE time we sat next to him. I mean, he was having a full-blown conversation and was using his I'm-at-Soldier-Field-rooting-for-the-Bears voice. How rude! As a side note, this establishment is running a promotion with Restaurant.com. I purchased a $10 off coupon (when you spend $20) several months ago and decided to redeem it for this meal. The food is not as good and the servers, although very pleasant and friendly, are now much slower and inattentive. Today I went there to sit outside and have lunch. When I arrived I was told that the key to unlock the furniture was missing and the outside was closed, closed on one of the nicest days of the summer. I looked through the menu and the red velvet French toast with cream cheese looked so delicious! We had a gentleman server who was from another country and just started two weeks prior and so he didn't understand a lot of our requests which were minimal...my friend specifically ask for a cup of hot water and a side dish of lemon...it took almost 25 minutes to get this after 2 reminders and then he brought a cup of lemon and water together which was not the request. When the food came out I was just surprised at the amount of food presented and was quite pleased so I said to the waiter, " wow this is a lot of food" and he replied back with irritation and asked why I was displeased but I wasn't displeased I was just making a statement on how much food we received for the price...geesh I ordered the red velvet French toast with cream cheese, cheese eggs and turkey sausage!! That French toast is FIRE!!! It has a nice crisp on the outside and a warm gooey toast of cream cheese on the inside infused with the outside velvet taste!!! Just perfect...the eggs and turkey sausages is what to be expected of the meal. My friend got the Very Berry Pancakes topped with Strawberries and a skillet and she enjoyed it enough... At the end we asked for the manager which was very apologetic about our experience with our server and offered free drinks to take but then didn't go through with that either... We ordered the waffle benedict, chicken and bacon, and omelet with Canadian bacon, mushroom, and cheddar. My chicken and bacon contained all sorts of hotness! Everything from the shreds of bacon to the fried chicken was as crisp as ever and in the ever-best outfit of golden brown! The waffle had a thin blanket of shredded bacon in addition to bits of bacon that were included in the batter prior to baking. The fried chicken had a slight spice to it and it blended very well with the thin coat of syrup. The best thing about here is that there is no wait and the service is timely. The seating is comfortable and the servers are polite and accommodating to the customers' needs. They let us pick our seats and bring us milk for our coffee (there's cream at each table). The food is great too so for no wait and friendly service, I would come here over more popular breakfast locales. We tried the red velvet waffles, ham steak with eggs, and corned hash with eggs. Oh and of course coffee, which is unlimited. Portions are substantial.
