We had a reservation for party of 9 after the shamrock shuffle. I called them as we were in route because we were going to be 15 minutes late. They were appreciative of the call and said they would hold my table. They were super busy when we arrived but our table was waiting for us. As soon as we sat down Julian was right there greeting us and congratulating us for running the race. We all had mimosas so we ordered three bottles. Drinks came out pretty quickly and as they popped each bottle of champagne that morning our group yelled out "OPA"! Julian was attentive and has a great personality, perfect for the industry for him to be in. The food was delicious. My only bad thing to say is our food did not come out all together. Of course we were all starving so we told those that got their food to eat and not wait for the others but I would say after 10 minutes we were all enjoying their food. I personally had the spare rib skillet with pancakes and both were delicious. Skillet was seasoned very well and had such good flavors. Pancakes were warm and buttery. I don't usually give two stars but ya... we came an hour before it closes, we walked in and there was no line. The staff didn't look too happy when we walked in, there was no greeting. We got sat down at the end of a table of six, dropped the menu down and poured us water without saying anything. I showed the waitress a pic from yelp and asked if I could get the same thing, she looked at it and said that was from another location. So we decided to get the trio waffle Benedict (it's called Waffle House so I really wanted to try their waffle). After we placed the order she was telling us that the kitchen is closing in 10 mins (it was 3:15pm) and if we want anything else more we would need to place our last call soon then she walked away without collecting our menus, so I just put them on the table next to me. She came back and asked if we needed anything else and we said no thanks, and she just walked away like that. ( I personally found that very rude, you are serving someone at a job and you aren't giving out any nice gesture). Our food arrived pretty quickly and it LOOKED AMAZING! Not gonna lie it also smelled amazing too until I cut into the waffle and I see those translucent dough. Honestly I've never had any raw waffle in any restaurant before, and this place is famous of waffle? So I asked the waitress if the waffle was raw, she came over and looked at it and started speaking loudly in Spanish with her coworker (I do not speak Spanish so I do not know what she said but it was very loud) she was basically yelling at that point because her coworker was at the cashier. I just felt so embarrassed because we were the last table and it just seemed like we were complaining about the food. Our waitress then took the whole plate back to the kitchen and made us a new one. The funny thing is the waffle is extremely burnt on the outside but the inside it's still R A W. I just didn't eat any of the waffle because I don't want to ask the kitchen to make it for a third time. Overall the service was 1 star, our food was also 1star. Giving out a 2 star because it's not easy to operate a restaurant during Covid time but I hope you can do it better than this. Will not return for the second time. Came here for breakfast. Ambiance was busy and medium size place, but had plenty of seating still. There were only 2 of us, and oddly we were seated at a long table for 4. Breakfast was ok, nothing really exciting, pretty basic. The waitress seemed rushed, a little bit of an attitude, and really just took our order and brought food to us and we never saw her again. Then, while we were still eating awhile, a waiter came over and asked if we could pay the check and move to a smaller table because they needed our table. He Said: Our server was attentive at first and got our drinks and orders taken after a short time. Sure, there were only another 5 or 6 tables taken (so, about 1/3), but it was well done. After we got our food, also quickly, we barely saw our server again. We saw them maybe 2 other times and after the food was delivered the gap was about 10 minutes. I really wanted more coffee. The corned beef hash was likely canned, but still decent. Not great, but I'd probably get it again knowing what it is. I got a side of it with my half order and it was plenty. The rye toast was very tasty. The potatoes were sorta good: a crispy set of halved reds roasted with salt and maybe some pepper. Not much else going on. The price point was high for the quality, IMO. She Said: I got a half order, and I was happy with my choice. The egg was done perfectly (I ordered it over medium, and it was a runny yolk with set whites), the toast was great for sopping up the egg, and I really enjoyed the potatoes. The bacon was fine. Nothing to write home about, but cooked to the crispy-not-chewy point that I appreciate. Plus, the English Breakfast tea was a cut above the typical and served in a pot so that I could have three cups without waiting. As for the price point mentioned by him, everything is more expensive now--just visit a grocery store--so I'm not going to worry too much about that. I'd definitely go back with an understanding that I'm not getting anything that I can't make at home, but sometimes that's okay. AWFUL. I dined her once before the pandemic and it was awful. Today I googled best breakfast restaurants in the south loop and Chicago Waffles had really good reviews. I don't get it. I ordered french toast which was rubbery. Eggs greasy and bacon was super greasy. My friend had to send waffle back because it was 98% undercooked. We sat on the patio and saw spiders and we were attached by flies and bees. I couldn't eat the french toast and I sent it back. I didn't want anything else. They left the cost of the french toast on my bill. I asked the manager to take it off my bill which she reluctantly did. The manager is Kimberly. She didn't apologize for my bad experience and didn't really make much eye contact. No smile, nothing. Still my bill totalled $50.00. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed with spending that much money on a HORRIBLE breakfast. I can't understand how this place got good reviews. Go figure! read more

It's a cute restaurant with a modern diner vibe. We made a reservation for a bachelorette brunch destination before a day of exploring the city. The song selection was great AND we ended up being able to sit by a large bank of windows and people watch. All you need to do is call for a reservation. The menu has a huge selection. Personally, I was torn between the red velvet waffle and the matcha waffle, but I ended up getting the matcha waffle with a side of turkey sausage. Three other people and I split the sangria, which was super refreshing. Since there were 8 of us, service took a little bit, but we passed the time with good conversation and our drinks. Once we received our food I was soooooo excited! I love matcha and was (a little nervous), but ended up loving my decision. The coffee wasn't bad either! The ONLY downside was that when it came time to the check, they couldn't split it out with separate checks. We were able to go down the receipt and calculate our totals that way and then let the waitress know which amount to put on which card. This place is like your local greasy spoon but slightly upscale in comparison. The service was great. The coffee was very tasty. I had to try the waffles - of course - and they were perfectly like and fluffy and extremely nice. I have ordered waffles at breakfast places in the past and they were often really crispy on the outside and I had to like... cut...through them? Not what I think of when I think of a good waffle. There was little to no wait on a Saturday morning. The food was all extremely fresh and they don't do a syrupy blueberry sauce or syrupy strawberries to top their waffles - only fresh fruit. I dig that. You'll probably find "fancier" places with more eclectic and unique menu items but after a weekend of tying one on for Lollapalooza this hit the spot. read more

Chicago, you're a great city. And I will definitely be back. The coastline is beautiful, your art institute is perfection, and I hear outdoor music everywhere I walk. But at the risk of sounding like an elitist New Yorker, you need better taste in breakfast spots. This place is actively BAD. The only reason is place earns one star is because the server did the right thing and took an item off the bill. And I guess my tomato juice was good. To start, the food is gross - overly greasy potatoes, pancakes that tasted rubbery like a once frozen Eggo, and the quinoa skillet I ordered was just a bunch of unseasoned quinoa and bland overdone frozen veggies. Plus, a third of the way through, I found a 3 inch piece of wet cardboard from what looked like the produce box. I used to load and unload produce crates and those things are disgusting (they touch every bit of dirty machinery in processing, then the trucks, then the sidewalks...), so my stomach was sufficiently turned. The service was bad, but not for the poor server's lack of trying. That woman was hustling, she was like a blur darting around everywhere. But she clearly had way too many tables in her area and, as a result, never checked on us (I had to flag her down to point out the actual garbage in my food). I am well aware that COVID means we all need to learn patience, but the owner/manager is prioritizing profit over both customer service and the sanity of the waitstaff - not a great combo. If you willfully ignore my review and the slew of other bad reviews (including customers who found mold in their food) and go anyway, expect to see your server only when you order and get your food. Getting the check took at least 20 minutes after I flagged her over to send trash-skillet back. New York may be dirtier, with a lot more rats, dog feces littering the sidewalk, and a subway that always smells faintly of urine. But we can show you a great brunch with delicious flavorful dishes in adequately staffed spots. Avoid this place. read more
