We have used Gus now on 2 of our homes. The 1st was my parents house where Gus and his crew redid her drain tiles. It was a lot of work, but Gus did exactly as he promised. As a matter of fact, my mom just called him with a question and he not only answered her question but came to her house to address her concerns and make sure she felt comfortable with the outcome. The 2nd time we used Gus was recently where his crew came to our house to address some cracks in the foundation where water was starting to seep in. Since Gus worked his magic, no more water. Id recommend him any day for any foundation work. He can also help with window well covers. read more

Gus and his guys can do it and have done all that work and probably a little more for us between 2 homes in the last 13 years. Really nice, local people that do quality work. What makes this company different from a lot of contractors, is that they are extremely responsive and there if things go wrong on the project even when they're not the reason. I broke our new egress window and they came right out to replace it. If I have questions on other things along the way in the construction project he'll offer advice and help along the way. Buyer beware! Gus is a fraud. He is not a licensed plumber! He fraudulently uses real plumbers license numbers when applying for permitted work. You can check the license number he writes on his trucks or on your permits at this website to verify that it is not him. https://plumblicv5pub.dph.illinois.gov/Clients/ILDOHPlumb/Public/Verification/Plumber_License_Verification.aspx He will claim that you don't need a license to do certain plumbing work, but you can tell what you are buying from how poor the quality of work is. He hires none licensed and unskilled laborers to do the work. His foreman told me that he was working in a chicken processing plant just months before he was doing plumbing work at my house! Gus is often not even on site to supervise any of the work being completed. He drops the unskilled laborers off at your house, then leaves to go bid the next job. The workers also don't have the appropriate tools to complete a quality job. When they were installing my drain tile, I asked them if they were going to properly pitch the pipe so water would flow to the new sump pit and the works replied that they don't use a level! Gus is also very rude. He speaks inappropriately to his employees. He brought his children to my job site. He has a terrible temper and is often difficult to get contact whenever you need assistance. I would never recommend Chicagoland Waterproofing to anyone. Please do your homework before hiring this company! read more

My experience with Chicagoland Waterproofing was the worst that I've had with any contractor. I would caution anyone against engaging in business with them. I hired Gus to install an egress window in our basement, accepting a written proposal (unfortunately not a detailed contract) and paying a 50% deposit for the job upfront. The office initially scheduled the project to begin on 4/23/2019, but then repeatedly postponed the start date, without ever giving any advance notice -- only a phone call on the actual day that they were scheduled to arrive, to tell me that they wouldn't be coming. On the first occasion, the delay was due to a scheduling error. The weather was dry, but another job was taking longer than expected or something. On another occassion, my job was postponed because they had another customer with an "emergency situation" that they had to deal with. Other times they cited possible rain in the forecast. More than a month later, at the end of May, the work had still not begun. It was affecting the rest of my construction schedule, and I was frustrated with the continual delays, poor planning, and lack of communication. I requested to cancel the project. Gus said that I would need to pay a 30% cancellation fee, which I agreed to. When I called the office to arrange a refund, I was met with continual redirection and non-answers. After weeks of getting nowhere, I called Gus, and he now told me they would refund me only 50% of the deposit amount I had paid. Feeling beaten down and wanting to put this situation behind me, I reluctantly agreed. Months later, they had still not issued the refund. Esther gave me a different answer each time I called, and eventually told me that Gus had instructed her not to issue the refund. She didn't know why. Gus would not answer my phone calls or texts. After repeated attempts, 3 months after cancellation, in September the company finally refunded a fraction of my deposit (bizarrely, they refunded only around 40%, rather than the 50% that Gus had most recently agreed to). Of course, this situation is largely my own fault, in that I did not insist on a detailed written contract with cancellation terms and such to begin with. However, the way the company decided to deal with this simple project cancellation displays an unapologetic lack of integrity and respect: they accepted thousands of dollars as a deposit, never performed a single hour of work or purchased any materials, and ultimately failed to return even an agreed upon portion of the money I had entrusted them with - and the business owner refuses to talk with me about it. People who treat customers so poorly don't deserve your business. read more

Had a really great experience with this company. Hired them twice for two separate problems we had and they did a great both times. They were timely, reliable and produced high quality work. They showed up and finished when they said they they would, they cleaned up well after they left and surpassed our expectation on the quality of the job. One of the times we needed a well dug out and installed, it looks great. Best of all it has withstood all of this on-going rain we have and I haven't had any problems since their work. Hi! I had a terrible situation with flooding in my yard. It's been 15 years! This company went above and beyond. They went numerous times to village to get this clear.. never charged a penny extra. I had Chicagoland Wrecking and Waterproofing put drain tile in my basement. This is when they were under another business name called, "Superb Waterproofing, Inc." My basement still continued to have water. Since they did not want to correct a small problem with the sump pump, I knew they would not correct a larger problem. I hired a professional company, called Real Seal. They told me the drain tile was not dug down deep enough and the drain tile was just set on top of the gravel, and it was not at a slope so the water would drain. The water just sat there. Beware of companies who use a post office box as their address. I was a new homeowner at the time and made the mistake of trusting this company. read more

Gus was fantastic to work with . He came out when it was convenient for both me and my husband to meet with him . He talked over the project with us and told us the best options . We had an idea of what we were getting into price and project wise and he gave us a good price and was extremely knowledgeable about basements and concrete and knew everything about plumbing and pipes and water . Ultimately , he installed an injector pump in our basement . It required concrete getting torn up and the crew did a nice job with that and with protecting the place so our stuff wouldn't get ruined . They did the pipes too and we feel so lucky that they noticed a leak in a pipe that someone else had worked on and they helped us fix that too. They also did a really nice job with the clean up of the project and concrete can be a very messy situation . For the entire week or so project Gus was in good communication with me and my husband . We felt very much like we were in good hands and we trusted him and his crew . It paid off ! They installed an injector pump and it's working flawlessly . We are so very happy with the job they did and most highly recommend Gus and Chicago Waterproofing . We had Gus do two outside drainage projects - one in the front of the house and one in our backyard. The front of the house project went very well, was completed timely and workmanship was great. The backyard project was a much larger/more complicated project. It took us some effort/prodding to get the project started. Once started the work was done well and timely. Our yard has been dry thanks to the newly installed system. Where we ran into issues was getting Gus to complete the wrap up work after he collected payment. Part of our front yard was left uneven (ground caving in) and unsightly until the municipality fixed it (thankfully they were doing other work in the area). In the process of completing the backyard work part of the front yard drainage system was inadvertently buried rendering the system not fully functional. We have been requesting (via in person conversations, texts and email) the issue to be fixed for four months without any success. For now my front yard system is not fully functional. I would have liked to leave Gus a glowing review as I believe he knows his craft well and does good work, but the lack of follow up and response once the check for the work cleared the bank is upsetting and disappointing. read more

We had seapage of water coming from someplace in our basement cold room. After very huge rainfalls we would always have 2 inches of water on the floor. We called one of the so-called leaders of waterproofing and they couldn't pinpoint the leak, etc. A friend suggested we call Chicagoland Waterproofing. I am glad I did!! One call to Esther and/or Mary got us an appointment either the owner, Gus! He came in and to my amazement walked over to corner pipes in both sides of cold room, felt under the pipe, felt droplets of water. He also showed me water marks on the wall where water came from. He found the leaks in less than 5 minutes!!! I am seriousl. In 4 days his worker Freddie came out and in a neat and professional manner fixed the problem of our leaks. Price was very reasonable. Here's the thing: we had a drain tile system put in and they seemed to do a decent job. Then, I saw that the crew bent a lot of the metal studs and poured the cement back in without putting in a bottom bracket. They then had me deal with a sub-contractor to install the drywall and fix the studs but I found out this person could only do the work after 5:00. So, while the drain tile work took one-day, the drywall installing and stud repair took two weeks and had to happen at night! One night, I even had to bring the family to my Mother-in-law's house because it was so loud but had to be done at night. Beware of the lack of communication if you move forward with them for a residential job. Be sure that everything is spelled out in advance with timelines and expectations. The work itself seems to have been done well but the issues were in the follow-up. read more

Really disappointed in the lack of professionalism with this company. I first found Chicagoland Waterproofing through Yelp. Alex came out to look at our basement to give us a quote on concrete repair. We'd had a leak and for some time and wanted to seal the wall as well as determine where the water was coming from. Alex was outstanding. Probably the most knowledgable person we have had come out to the property. He said the best next step would be to do a camera inspection to determine where the water was coming from. The front desk receptionist, Mary, texted me and said they wouldn't be available for a month and to go with someone else. I thought that it was strange that she didn't even offer us an appointment slot to see if we would be comfortable waiting a month. I was too impressed with Alex to let her bother me so I called and set up an appointment. Mary probably cancelled on us 4 times. There were some mornings she cancelled less than 30 mins before their team was scheduled to arrive. She came up with excuse after excuse. No one was available to come out. The protests led to closed ramps so they had no way of getting into the city (BS). Everyone was sick. She also said that because our building is located in the city, we were out of the way for them...so when why did Alex even come out for the initial appointment? It got to a point where Mary completely stopped answering our calls and completely blew us off. I read all of the reviews on Chicagoland Waterproofing before calling them for an estimate and several people had similar complaints. They missed two appointments with us. I confirmed the first appointment the day before with their admin and when no one showed up within the 3 hours window I had to call to see where they were. No courtesy call to say they were running late. Gus said he was behind that day and would we mind rescheduling for the next day between 9-9:30am. I specifically had my father in law come to the house to meet him since I would be at work. Once again, Gus was a no-show. I called him to see what was going on and he did not apologize at all. I cannot say enough good things about this company and Gus. We are trying to sell our house and had fallen out of contract multiple times because of flooding in our crawl space. Perma seal charged us $1600.00 to fix the cracks they promised would fix the problem. It didn't. They wanted to then charge us 8,500 to put in a drainage system without even acknowledging that they had already claimed to fix our problem and charge us for it. We contacted 6 other companies/plumbers who all told us variations of the same thing and wanted to charge us anywhere from $8,000 to $12,000. Feeling completely defeated, with a problem that was too expensive for us to solve, we reached out to Chicagoland waterproofing. Gus was out the very next day. He agreed that we needed a drainage system, was exceptionally detailed in explaining every step of the process, yet quoted us half the price of everyone else. His team completed the job the next day.
