Tried this place today since it was close by. The hot dog was pretty decent however the previous comments said the fries were awful! Well I have to agree, possibly the worst fried I've ever had. Asked for my fries to be made we'll done...what I got were fries that weren't even close to being prepared properly! Not what I expected for $7.50! It gets better....my wife ordered an Italian beef for $12.50. Great big piece of Italian bread but really wondered "Where was the Beef?" Oh and her fries were just as bad as mine were. So with drinks, two sandwiches and fries I dropped $27.00 there. The upside is we will NEVER GO BACK THERE..... Not sure what they don't understand when you ask for the fries to be made we'll done? Generous portions of delicious food. The restaurant is much more spacious than you would think from the storefront. Full bar. The only thing I don't like is a surcharge for using a debit or credit card. I'm seeing this practice increasing, and I am increasingly disliking it. I am buying food and usually tip 20%. I am penalized for not carrying a wad of cash everywhere. Businesses need to rethink this practice. read more

Anecdote: I was born in Central Illinois and introduced to "street style" gyros at a young age. Being a rural Alabama resident since preteen age, my access to gyros has been limited, and what I typically find is either "fancy" or pretending to be fancy, with farmers market type ingredients trying to make the "freshest gyro". These things can be nice, but it's not what I crave. Reality: I was attracted to this restaurant by the "Chicago" in its name. That word alone told me what to expect. I ordered a gyro & fries, with an extra gyro sauce (tzatziki) on the side. The gyro wrap was a perfect embodiment of my childhood memories: well-seasoned beef and lamb on a moist and fluffy pita, with onion, tomato, and thick, zesty cucumber sauce. A perfect ratio of fat to acid. The fries tasted just like something I'd make at home, and dipping them in "gyro sauce" made them perfect. This was my first trip to this spot. I'm in town for the week, and i will definitely be back for one more before I head home! read more

I hate to say it but I've lived 2 minutes from this place for years and never tried it. I've never eaten anywhere in AJ that was all that great in 20 years so we never thought this place was any better. We were wrong. Their ingredients are fresh and their food is great. The place is clean and nice. Clean is a plus and rare AJ. Their hours are consistent also which is another problem in AJ. I'm in love with this place now and can't wait to try new things. I've never had a falafel but that's my next order. I do have to say that after reading a review from shawn , I did not notice that they expressed any political opinions. I used to come to this place quite often and today I did after quite a while. Previously I would've given this place five stars, but not today. I ordered a Gyro and large fries to go. When my order was up in 60 seconds I should have known, but I took my meal and drove off The french fries are absolutely horrible because they had been sitting under a light for I don't know how long and they were like oily rubber. There's no way these were fresh. I was I was going to order an additional sauce, but when they told me it was two dollars for a small container, so I passed on that. Two bucks! For a Jell-O shot size of sauce. The Gyro was a mistake in ordering as well. It lacked sauce so much that it was as if there were none. In addition to that, the single onion slices that they put on this Gyro was only on the end rather than being spread out throughout the Gyro. The way they put the onion in there would've worked great on a hamburger. The bummer is I really enjoyed this place but I guess I probably will not be going back. Truly unfortunate. Hands down, the best food in Apache Junction. Everything made fresh, in house with fresh high quality ingredients. I cannot get enough of the Chicken skewers and rice. The Vegetarian Delight is my favorite, with dolmas, spanikopita and falafel! All fresh and full of flavor. The tazhikj sauce is to die for! I'm really sad to post this review. We discovered this place years ago and it was great. Unfortunately, not anymore. The fries were good, and the pita were lovely and soft. My chicken shawarma sandwich was just OK. My husband ordered beef shawarma plate and it was NOT beef shawarma. Over the rice and little salad was what looked more like the scrapings from the pan when you start cleaning it at the end of the day. There was little meat there, whatever you wanted to call it, and even the rice was dry. This is a little out of our area so we hadn't been in a while, and we won't be back. read more

One of my favorite spots in AJ! Consistently great food each time I visit. My go to is the Chicken Kebob Plate ($13) and Triple delight (7.99 baba ghanouj, hummus, tabouli & pita), which is what we had tonight. One of my other favorites is the gyros sauce, it comes with the plate and hits the spot. The flavor is always perfect & the owners are very nice. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because price, although I feel the food is worth it, I think it is a bit high. Price does keep me from visiting more often. When I lived in Chicago, I practically ate gyros every day. Moving back here it was hard to find a place that did the chicago style gyro justice, but this place doesn't disappoint. If you're familiar with Kostas or Chiggys in Chi-town, this is comparable. There's no BS toppings like lettuce or whatever pita jungle puts on their gyro. And it comes with fries. I've lived in the east valley for 15 years and until today had never considered giving this place a shot. Wow, am I so glad I did! I ordered a chicken gyro (no onions). The flavor is spectacular. Who would think that I would find a place like this is remote Apache Junction, in an even remoter neighborhood off the main drag? If not for Yelp I would never have found this place on my own and even then may not have stopped in. I'm glad I did. This is not a fancy place, it would be wrong to compare it to those slick Greek-style chain places that are popping up. It's obviously a labor of love of someone who like to make, serve and eat good food, and after all isn't that what really counts? The menu is surprisingly large but I wanted to see how they did with a basic Gyro sandwich, no frills. Unlike those new chain fast food Gyro places I wasn't handed a pre-made Gyro in an instant. It took them a while to make it and when it was delivered to my table it was piping hot, as were the French fries. This place is going to rank from now on as a place I compare other Gyro places to. The pita was light and fluffy and warm and as just right as it could be. Inside was meat ... lots of meat, thick moist warm cuts of seasoned meat. They didn't load it with so much other stuff that the meat was drowned in other flavors. If you like meaty Gyros sandwiches this place is your nirvana. Along with the meat was just the right touch of some red ripe tomatoes, a few slices of red onion and a small dollop of tzatziki sauce, not so much to drown the meat but to compliment it. I was visiting my family in Mesa, Arizona last weekend and my nephew told me about this wonderful restaurant. They are located in a small strip mall that is mostly empty and as other reviewers said you could actually miss the place if you weren't looking for it. Plenty of parking but the place does get busy at lunch time and tables become a premium. There is a large population year round of Chicagoan's whom have migrated to Arizona so come early. We arrived around noon on Saturday and by 12:15/12:30 all the tables were taken and there was a line . Atmosphere is just like your typical hot dog/beef stand in Chicago. Unpretentious , with the Authentic Gyros posters and a few Chicago landmark pictures here and there. TV for your viewing pleasure and Greek Music piped in. OPA! The restaurant was very clean, chairs, tables, floor even the kitchen area that was exposed. The food arrived within reason as each item is made fresh to order. The items were then brought to our table by the Owner. He is a charming man. I did not get his name but when we left I shook his hand and wished him much success. It really doesn't get any better than this. We all sampled something from the menu.. My nephew is hooked on the Gyros. I tried the meat and it was fantastic. Since I have a good Gyros near my home, I stuck with my two Chicago Favorites - Italian Beef & Pizza Puff. The Italian beef was fantastic.. I am sure it was Vienna Beef . I got mine with Hot gardiener peppers and soggy. My pizza puff was a delicious and greasy as I remember from back home and so delicious! My dad and his friend had Chicago style hot dogs with the works and they were Vienna Beef hot dogs so totally authentic Chicago Dogs. I have posted some photos of our delicious items. I highly recommend this place to anyone with a craving for great Greek food or Chicago favorites. They carry most standard Greek fare as in falfel, hummus, slouvaki and shiskebob. My nephew says the hummus is to die for. I skipped it on this trip but will definitely try it again. The only improvement he could make are the french fries. They are good , hot crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, but to make them authentic Chicago they should be fresh cut with the skin on them. read more
