We were stopping for the night in Staunton, and decided we wanted Mexican for dinner. Chicano Boy Taco popped up first on Yelp and had lots of stars with lots of reviews. So, I read through the reviews, noting all the great comments, including "best Mexican food in the eastern US." Now we had to try this restaurant! So I browsed through the menu, with all of it's amazing choices for tacos, burritos, and bowls. Then read the history of the chef who created Chicano Boy Taco, and all the menu options. We were sold, and proceeded to the website to order online. This was really simple and straightforward using ChowNow (you can use ChowNow online or on the app). Because of COVID-19, the restaurant is still pick up/delivery only. When we arrived at the restaurant, they were still preparing our order, and said they would bring it out to our vehicle when ready. The meal was as good as everyone said it would be! I had the three taco meal (chicken taco, squash taco, and sweet potato/black bean taco, all on flour tortillas). These were absolutely the best tacos I have ever eaten. My husband had the chicken burrito, which is huge. He said it tasted delicious and was filling. We shared guacamole and chips. With a bit of red and green salsa and lime, the guacamole was very tasty. The chips were thin, crisp, and fresh. In all, this was an amazing meal. I have bookmarked Chicano Boy Taco on Yelp. We absolutely love this place, everything is fresh! I wanted to post feedback on why I didn't eat my tacos the other day! My friends recommended the shrimp tacos, so I got them! I was super excited to eat them until I realized it was covered in a chipotle mayonnaise, I didn't realize this! I HATE MAYONNAISE! I thought it would be citrusy like the chicken tacos with maybe a dry rub! I won't get those ones again, but I promise I'll be back and I promise I'll eat lots of chicken tacos and guacamole!!! Great tacos, my favorite are the shrimp tacos and the sweet potato and black bean tacos. I wouldn't turn down the squash tacos either. They have 3 different sauces mild ones are the tomatillo-lime or the tomato-red chilli and they have a hotter one in the carrot-habanero. You can wash it down with a Mexican Coca Cola made with sugar instead of corn syrup. Now it is only takeout, before covid you could eat inside but it would be near impossible to social distance there. Usually fast service and they bring it out to your car and when it is nice they have a fenced in outside area. if you like tacos this is the place to be. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Staunton. The food is delicious and reminds me of my favorite taco places in Denver. The food is flavorful, and there are delicious vegetarian and meat options. The ambience is small-town hipster, but the service is pretty good. The queso is delicious. The black bean and sweet potato burrito bowl so good. I prefer the green salsa to the red, which doesn't have a ton of flavor. I wish they still had wine. read more

I used to be ambivalent to tacos. They weren't my first choice, but I like them well enough. All of that changed when I ate Chicano boy tacos and the Chicano boy taters. BOY HOWDY those puppies are good. The tortillas are deliciously authentic and thick enough that they hold the taco fillings without breaking, which is incredibly impressive. The carrot salsa was too spicy for me, but so good that I couldn't stop eating it. And let me tell you, those taters were killer. Worth every penny and more. read more

Traveling and we picked Staunton as our food stop. Found the reviews on Yelp for this place and it did not disappoint. Plus it had an outdoor patio where they graciously let us sit with our dog who was as sick of the car as we were. Had the salad with beef, 2 tacos - one with chicken and one with potato/chorizo, and the AMAZING grilled corn on the cob with sprinkled chili, lime, and cotijo cheese. My prior review was based on my experience with ordering a burrito. On a return trip I ordered the tacos. I had pork tacos and my companion had fish tacos. Very delicious! The pork is tender and melts into the soft tortilla. There's the right amount of toppings to fill the tortilla without creating a mess. Oh...and the verde sauce, green chili sauce is wonderful. It has just a little kick and a nice saltiness. That all said, I rate it a 4 vs 5 because it's still so pricy. $25 for two orders of tacos is expensive. And overpaying always ruins the experience for me and the store lacks atmosphere for the hefty price, just some picnic tables. So yeah, I'll be back, but it's not a place I can afford to go to very often. read more

These are THE BEST tacos I've ever had, and I've lived in Texas! I highly recommend this place to all my friends whenever they are in Staunton. Chicano Boy has a variety of tacos and even a couple of vegetarian options. I usually get the chicken and the black bean & sweet potato (my faves) and I'll rotate a third every time I visit. Today I had the shrimp and was blown away. I'm a little wary of having seafood this far inland but the shrimp was cooked to perfection and it was so refreshing. I recommend eating the shrimp as your last taco since it's so light and the other ones, although super delicious, are pretty heavy. Their Mexican Street Corn is insanely good! Chicano Boy never disappoints! We take advantage of their delivery service almost weekly now that dine in is limited, and we have never had a bad experience. The service is consistently prompt and accurate, and the food is delightful. The taste is unique, and the fresh ingredients set them apart from other Mexican restaurants in the area. We typically order the Americana tacos, with a side of chips and queso, but we have tried other items from the menu and they are just as delicious. There was a red pubic hair deep in the salsa that I ordered. I couldn't believe a pubic hair came up on a chip that I was going to eat until I saw that red hair on my chip I about lost my lunch. Now the business owner try to smooth it over by giving us some gift cards. He didn't charge me for that pube field salsa. Everyone seems to love it and I wish I did too. So for 10.95 you get a burrito, choice of meat or vegetarian fillings and a cup of salsa. The burrito is cut in half and angled on top of the other (why do people do that?). So you have little pieces of the foil paper you have to pick out of your food. Otherwise the burrito was fine but not better than anyone else. Honestly the price is way too much. If they included chips then it would be more reasonable. I'd skip it. read more
