My first time trying Peruvian food and I had so much fun! I arrived on a Monday around 4:45pm for their happy hour specials. There was no wait when we arrived. We had the kindest server who let me sample a few (non alcoholic) drinks before making my decision. My colleague and I ordered two appetizers off the bar bites menu. We ordered the yucas y platanos ($13) and the beef heart anticuchos ($17). Then, we felt like we could still eat a little bit more so we split the ceviche mancora ($26). All the food was fantastic. A few days later, and I'm still thinking about how great those beef hearts were. So flavorful, so tender, and such a fun texture. I was so surprised with how much I enjoyed them. In second place was that ceviche mancora. The sauce had the perfect spice. We asked for between a mild to a medium, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Our waiter was extremely patient with explaining every dish, giving us recommendations, and making sure we were comfortable with the spice level. I really don't want to bash this place because the atmosphere was great and our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. The platanos and yuca appetizer was very good, the Chicha Morada sangria was delicious, and the birthday cheesecake was appreciated as well. Unfortunately though, my husband and I were both disappointed with the Lomo Saltado. I completely understand restaurants are dealing with rising costs, inflation, etc., but the dish we received had a very small amount of steak compared to the amount of onions. My husband and I jokingly called it the "Onion Saltado" dinner afterward. I wish I had taken photos, but I had accidentally left my phone at home. My honest suggestion would be either: keep the current portion sizes but balance the meat-to-onion ratio a bit better and consider adjusting the price point, or increase the amount of steak and vegetables and charge a little more for it. I truly don't mind paying higher prices for a great dining experience, good service, and a satisfying entrée. I just didn't feel the value matched the $33 price in this case. We had an excellent experience here. We stared with the empanadas appetizer, the provolone cheese was my favorite of the 2 flavors they offered. Then we moved on to the yuca and plantain plate, which was very fresh and flavorful. They come with very tasty dipping sauces. For our entree we tried the chicken pachamanquero and the fettuccine. Both extremely different, but such flavor and vibrant dishes. The pachamanquero had so many different components to it, but everything tasted delicious together. I also really appreciate that all of our dishes came out of the kitchen very hot, literally steaming. The portions are actually rather large here so I think if you get an appetizer, their entrees are definitely shareable. To finish we got a few alfajores. I would definitely return for a special occasion. The restaurant is very modern inside, service was also great and attentive. Came here on a whim with a large group they accommodated us as a walk in. Staff was very friendly and the walk in lobby area was very nicely decorated. The waiter let me taste test some juice I've never heard of they said it was blue corn drink, very different in taste. I ordered the paella and it was SO good. This is my first time coming to chicha although I've seen it passing by quite a few times when I'm in the area. I never really thought much about getting Peruvian food until a friend suggested to try it and I'm glad they did! First the restaurant itself has a very nice vibe to it. He was very patient with us and gave us his recommendations on what to try as this was our first time there. The platanos were grilled to the perfect caramelization and paired well with their sweet sauce. The yucas was very crispy and provided a nice contrast with the platanos. Would recommend getting this again Vegetarian flatbread 5/5 - loaded with veggies, I was pleasantly surprised on how good this was! They also put on this yellow sauce for an extra bit of tang that was just right! Ceviche mancora 4/5 - this was recommended by our waiter and it was delicious. Usually I'm not a fan of ceviche given how acidic they can be but this was a good balance of acid and savory. The fish and shrimp tasted wonderful alongside the corn and onion in it. Main Lemon Seared Mahi Mahi 3/5 - The fish was cooked perfectly and the sides it came with also tasted good. I would not say this was a spectacular dish as this could be found at any type of restaurant and it did not stand out as much as the appetizers. My friends got the chicken pachamanca and fettuccine huancaina which they enjoyed as well. Desserts Passion fruit and mango cheesecake 5/5 - this was sooo good. I love how soft the cheesecake was and the flavors came with a punch. We had made a reservation, but when we arrived they told us there would be about a 15-minute wait unless we wanted to sit at the bar on the patio. It was pretty cold outside, and they let us know the patio heater wasn't working. We decided to sit out there anyway. Luckily I had brought my coat, so it wasn't too bad. It even started sprinkling at one point, and we ended up moving ourselves further under the eave for cover. Despite the weather hiccups, the service really stood out. Our waitress was incredibly kind, attentive, friendly, and personable. She made us feel welcome and taken care of the entire time. The food was very good. Our family visited Chicha on a Tuesday evening in January to celebrate my partner's birthday, after receiving a recommendation from someone at the Midtown Farmers Market. We're so glad we took their advice--everything from the food to the atmosphere exceeded our expectations. Appetizers Pork Belly Anticuchero - Crispy pork belly bites, anticuchera sauce, chalaquita sarsa, and ají amarillo aioli. Easily a 10/10. The appetizer comes with four pieces, and each bite was incredibly savory and packed with flavor. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. Jalea de Mariscos - Deep-fried calamari, shrimp, and fish with cassava fries, sarza criolla, and tartara sauce. Another standout dish. The inside is nice and feels cozy. Street parking wasn't too hard to find. The service we had wasn't the best. 2 of the 4 people ended up splitting a dish, and we were not brought out an extra steak knife or an extra plate. We had to ask for both (separately), and it seemed to take a while to get the knife, while the extra plate was a bread plate instead of a real plate and it was not the best to use for our dish. It seemed like the server was upset that we were splitting something so we were given a tiny plate, while the two splitting were not seated side by side. Both of the people that split do not eat very much due to dietary restrictions and we ended up taking home leftovers, so we ordered enough food for us to eat and were not being 'cheap' but it also could be nothing to read into, so take that with a grain of salt. We got the pesto pasta with shrimp and steak and the pesto was very fresh and good and the pasta was a thick noodle, which I love. I also loved the shrimp! I would come back just for the pesto with shrimp. 3 of us ended up having the steak and all of us got it medium rare and felt like the steak was very chewy and overdone. There was not much flavor and there was plenty of grizzle. None of us liked the steak and we would avoid the steak for the future. We also got the pork belly appetizer bites, which were super yummy, but our favorite was the empanada duo! I would come back just for the empanada duo and the sauce it comes with. I dipped the pork belly in the sauce for the empanadas and it was great. While I would come back, the pricing and service do put me off a bit because I think if we are spending $150+ for four people, they can give us a real plate and steak knife to split an item. I also would see if they would substitute the steak for more shrimp, or get a different dish entirely, but order the same appetizers. read more

When I arrived, I was impressed with how beautiful the inside of the restaurant is; however, the ambiance felt off. Let me introduce you to Chicha, in downtown Sacramento, an excellent Peruvian restaurant, that provided excellent and friendly service, food, and vibes. Here on a work trip, friends and I ordered the popular (lomo saltado), the vegetarian (vegetables cubanos), and the social-media-recommended (chaufa). We didn't have a ton of options on a Sunday evening in Sacramento and happy we found this spot. Eclectic decor, comfortable seating and a chill vibe. Service from Host and server, Jesus, was excellent. He answered all questions and service was efficient and quick. Food was all very good. Was inspired to try Peruvian food, and came across Chicha Peruvian Kitchen in my search. The food on Yelp looked amazing, so I did that think it would disappoint...and I was right. We dined her this past Saturday night, and walking up we could tell it was really lively. We were seated to the left of the entrance, in the area where the murals is adorned with colors and patterns. Like that of traditional Peruvian clothing. We looked over the menu for a little bit and my girlfriend first ordered the Chicha Morada which she'd been wanting to try. We also ordered the following: Drinks: Chicha Morada Appetizers: Yuca & Platános Fritos Pan Con Chicarrón Main Courses: Pescado A Lo Macho Pollo Pachamanquerdo Dessert: Peruvian Flan From the drinks to the food, everything was amazing! The spices on the Pollo Pachamanquerdo were so delicious, it was for sure my favorite dish of the night. But I also loved the fried platános, and the Chichi Morada drink. It was also nice that the live musician played a nice song for my girlfriend and I, after our appetizers arrived. He asked if she preferred it to be in Spanish or English and asked what vibe we preferred. So that was a nice touch on the night, but overall he brought great entertainment to the evenings dinning experience. Overall: Good environment, great live music and delicious food. Oh my goodness. I can't even put into words how delicious this food was. We were sat promptly. Our drink order was taken and delivered quickly. When we ordered, I got the fettuccine primavera and i absolutely loved it. I had a mango cider to drink. Originally the cider I ordered was out, so the waitress offered the mango and it was a delicious trade! The ambiance was great. It's a very nice restaurant. It is a little pricey, but I genuinely think the food is worth its price. I will absolutely be coming back here! read more
