I've heard great things about Chick & Tea from Allen (passed down by Binjih) and wanted to come try it! Parking: pretty spacious! You'll get a spot. Menu: The menu is pretty extensive! It's categorized by meal platters, sides/snacks, and drinks. Service: really nice people, but also kind of confusing?! Why do you serve others their food, but make me get mine.... 1) 2 orders of B1: Gpie rice plate ($11.49) // +1 Chicken was definitely a highlight! Tastes better than Shi-lin's. The spice was right, and the texture was close to spot-on! +/-1 Other side dishes very nice- not the best pickled vegetables, but it made do! This is definitely more filling than what Shi-lin can give. +1 Yay to rice! I am so picky about rice, and they did it right. The only downside was that the minced pork was not enough. 2) 1 order of F5: Sweet potato and sweet sour plum fries ($4.99) // +1 YAYYYY! These are so good! The spice is just right! +1 They use yellow sweet potatoes, which taste a lot better than your regular red ones! -1 A bit pricey for the quantity, but would not mind ordering these again. I've ordered from here 4 times during quarantine, it's definitely one of my favorite spots in South Bay. Their chicken is called "GPie" because in Mandarin, a chicken cutlet is called "ji pai." Chick & Tea is especially good for delivery orders because they make your food fast and the chicken breading holds up well to 25 minutes of transport. Some other places get soggy during that time but I haven't had that problem here! I usually just get the classic B2 Grilled GPie rice plate - the chicken is super crispy and I love the sauce on top. It's like a slightly sweet sticky soy sauce but not overpowering. The bento box (Bian dang) comes with 4-5 large pieces of chicken, rice, an egg, and 2 vegetable sides. Usually enough for 2 meals for me. I'm Taiwanese so these meals always make me homesick :) read more

And, when I had a taste of their Gpie (Ji Pai, Taiwanese Fried Chicken Cutlet), I was like "F*ck that, get your own!" Ok, I didn't have the heart to say that but I was thinking that the entire time. Note to self: Tell SpongeBob to get their own Gpie. Soft opening on Friday, June 15th, Chick & Tea's second south bay location opened. I visited on their second day and more than 60% of their menu was not available. I gasped a sigh of relief when I saw their signature Gpie was available. The Gpie ($7.99) is a Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet that's pounded, marinated with soy, garlic, rice wine, 5 spice, etc and coated in sweet potato flour. You can't have Taiwanese fried chicken without washing it down with [milk] tea. My friend ordered their D15 Grapefruit Green Tea ($3.99) and didn't like it either so we tossed our drinks and went to Happy Lemon up the block. As with any new business, there's going to be kinks. While the staff was polite, they're green so expect your order to take some time. The space is modern, minimalist, and clean. There's seating for about 30 people. There's three chairs outside but no table. Easy parking in the strip plaza. I normally drive to Tea Era in Cupertino for my Taiwanese fried chicken fix but I'm glad that I no longer have to. Overpriced, tasteless food that pales in comparison to the competition. It doesn't help that the service is atrocious and you end up waiting 30minutes just to order despite having less than 10 patrons at the establishment and having to listen to restaurant members yell back and forth and yelling out orders with no clue who they are for. While the fried chicken looks alright, it's actually tasteless and dry. You have to drench it in seasoning in hopes of bringing it back to life long enough to eat it. That's assuming you are willing to take a bite after seeing the person in the back handling it with his bare hands after just wiping tables and holding the dirty cloth. The milk tea was mediocre at best and pricy for what it is. The grilled squid is ok but a bit overcooked and rubbery, likely because it's not fresh and they cooked it longer just in case. The box is smaller and it comes with this sweet and sour sauce. Strange. Very few basil pieces and the chicken itself although crispy is very bland. We did our research and it seems like the popcorn chicken we were craving for is at O2 Valley on De Anza. They open at 11:30am to I think 2pm to 2:30pm? and reopen at 5pm. I first in line at 5pm when they reopen, so I dont know how long the wait time will be on average. But it could be 30min as of now. I ordered take out for my family and it was a 15min wait. So its average. They are soft opening so be patient if the line or ordering system is very slow. Lots of new trainees but they are super nice! Lots of seating space and there is private lot to park so that is a bonus! Interior of the space is clean and noise is pretty quiet. Chick & Tea is located in Sunnyvale on El Camino Real. They opened a new location, but I had not made a visit until now. The staff were friendly and helpful as I picked two items off the menu: Gpie Taiwanese Chicken Cutlet and Grapefruit Green Tea with Lychee Jelly. The drink was ready first -- refreshing and tasty. Then came the Gpie, which was cut up for me. It was tasty for snacking. I'll have to try their Rice Plates another time. read more

The Bento Boxes here are awesome!! I'm excited this place finally opened-- It'll definitely be a new go-to when I'm craving hearty Taiwanese dishes! We had the "Grilled Chicken" Bento Box thinking it would be a bit healthier than the fried, but it still is lightly fried which was fine since it was really delicious. Lightly crispy, well-flavored, and tender chicken. I also really liked my Minced Pork Rice Bowl. Sides are not bad either, though not too exciting. I think the sides change around from what I've seen in pix and other reviews. I also got an Oolong Milk Tea 25% sweet which I thought was a bit too creamy/sweet but my husband liked it. They have a rewards program which is nice. It was crowded here even at 2pm on the weekend, but the wait wasn't too bad- maybe 10 minutes. The owner was super friendly which I appreciated. Really good spot for a quick but super flavorful and filling lunch! My work had Chick & Tea delivered via DoorDash for lunch. I ordered the grilled g-pie bento box and it was so much food for what it was. Initially I was going to go for the g-pie bento, but the grilled aspect was intriguing and I'm really glad that I got it. The portions are extremely large. The bento comes with a protein, rice, two sides, and an egg. I really liked the bean curd sheet side that came with it. The grilled g-pie was delicious! Because it was put on the grill after it's fried, I don't think it's at its maximum crispiness anymore, but the flavor was phenomenal. It's like a five-spice BBQ sauce that they brush on, and it adds a lot of depth of flavor to the meal. Overall I would recommend, and I would give Chick & Tea a visit in the future to try out the other foods they have too! read more

Chick & Tea O2 Valley offers good customer service and tasty food at a reasonable price. During my first visit to Chick & Tea, I ordered the Gpie Rice Plate ($11.49). The plate came with a side of steamed mixed vegetables, marinated eggplant, a tea egg, minced pork rice, and a fried chicken cutlet. The mixed vegetables were average, while the marinated pieces of eggplant were tasty. The tea egg was okay, but kind of average. The minced pork rice was tasty, and I could see myself only eating this the next time I visit Chick & Tea. The fried chicken cutlet -- the star of the meal -- was crispy and flavorful on the outside, and still juicy on the inside. The person working at the register was helpful and suggested that I order the B1 (Gpie Rice Plate) since it was my first time eating at Chick & Tea. I will definitely return to this Chick & Tea location the next time I am nearby. read more

Not worthy for the wait. The service used to be good and efficient. During the pandemic, it is not organized. They seem to hire inexperienced employees. Phone order said ready in 10 mins. Came over on time, saw 10 people waiting and complaining outside. No clear sign for waiting area or order line. I won't recommend this restaurant during the pandemic for pick up, probably not even for food delivery (apparently several delivery guys were happy about the wait while the app showed ready to pick up) I will try O2 next time which I heard offer the same options. Another let down. Ordered Ai Yu Lemonade so many times. And this is the first time I got a drink without Ai Yu. This quality of this place is going down. Updated on 4/14: they started to answer phone orders, changing starts to 5. == If u wonder why their phone is always busy. It's because one of their employee internally disabled phone. First of all, their food is awesome, the 1 star is give to situation below and I am willing to change it to 5 stars if proper resolution is taken. Recently I tried calling their order number (408) 685-2044 many times during lunch hours, but I was always immediately transferred to voice mail. So I have to drive to cafe and order in person. When I ask the employee "why no one answer phone", they always told me "many ppl call in and line is busy", and they always encouraged me to call again and it always worked when I did it in the cafe. Today I called many times from home and still got immediately transferred to voice mail, so I drove to the cafe. This time, I wanted to find out what really happened. So I stopped outside the cafe, and I saw all employees were busy with checkouts or food preparation: on one was answering the phone. I called, still I got transferred to voice mail. Then I walked to counter, "hey ur phone is busy", and guess what happened? The employee immediately PRESSED A BUTTON ON THE PHONE, and asked me "the line must be busy, why not try again?" I called and it went through, and she added "it's just a lot of ppl calling". Then I knew what really happened. Apparently they disabled the phone, and they enabled it when u come and asked "why line is busy?" There are few comments I want to make. 1. I was pissed because the employee lied. Don't treat ur customer as fool, it's bottom line. 2. I don't know the real intention to disable phone. But I can put myself in they shoes and guess. Maybe the business is too good and they don't care taking more orders from phone - then cancel phone order service. Maybe they are too busy and don't have bandwidth - then make it clear that no phone services during certain hour. Maybe they want u to order from door dash or yelp which makes more money - then add service fee on phone order. Maybe some employee are just lazy - then hire someone who cares customer service. But putting someone at counter disabling phone at will seems the worst solution. read more

The place just changed ownership! The drinks are much better than before! We ordered black tea with boba, brown sugar boba milk, and baochung matcha fresh milk! Their tea were flavorful, the baochung match worth a try. What's even better was they put lots of boba! Though the boba was a bit tasteless. The food quality was better than the time right before the previous owner sold this place, however still not as good as the time when chick and tea first opened. The way they fried the food was ok, I guess was the chicken meat and the fish ball quality were not good enough. I kind of don't know what to make of this place. We came twice and had wildly different experiences. The first time was great--we came with a friend and all three of us got our bentos and drinks decently fast, no issues. The G-pie was great and the pork belly not bad, though could be more tender. My red bean smoothie was delicious! We were very happy and left satisfied. Fast forward a few weeks. I opt for the fried taro balls and popcorn chicken, while hubby gets the G-pie bento. Also got the red bean smoothie again, which, while nice and thick, is mysteriously less sweet--still tasty though! The big problem is, the food comes out COLD. Like, my popcorn chicken was clearly a mixed batch, some still warm but getting dry, a few pieces just cold. (Taro balls were fresh.) My husband's is even worse-- the chicken is completely cold and soggy, clearly something that's been sitting out a while. How could you serve someone your trademark dish when it is not only not fresh, but stone cold and limp?? Ditto the tempura it came with in the bento. Then when we asked them to redo it, we waited for a half hour, then finally had to go ask. Turns out they'd forgotten it. They seemed to be having a lot of confusion with orders, including both takeout and sit-down, and I saw a few other ppl go up to complain/inquire. In short, their staff seemed confused and unable to keep up. We did eventually get the bento back and it was MUCH better the second time. My hubby and I live in Mountain View and we order from this location through DoorDash a lot. Our favorite dishes get are: G-PAI BENTO, POPCORN CHICKEN, and PORK BELLY BENTO. Their portions are very generous for bento boxes. We love the flavors of all the dishes. Chick & Tea reminds us of Chinese comfort food. It's also fun because whenever we order a bento box, they change up the side dishes. I also like the tea eggs that come with the boxes. We typically also order BOBA with our meals. Both their milk and fruit teas are very tasty and they have lots of toppings to choose from. You can't go wrong with a regular milk tea & pearls, or a peach black tea & lychee coconut jelly. The ownership was changed a month ago, and the lovely couple who now runs the business are such wonderful, kind people. They really care about customer service as much as the food. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The staff are all very friendly and nice. My family has come so often, the barista has already memorized my mother's drink order and pretty much starts it as soon as she walks up to the cashier. The owners are often out in the eating area making sure everything is going smoothly. ATMOSPHERE: Nice and relaxed, not loud. There are outlets along their main wall, which is great if you're here to study or do work. They have music playing, but its soft and not overbearing. Space in between tables is pretty wide, so no need to worry about bumping into people all the time. Restroom is clean. FOOD: I love their food!!! Its like dear old Taiwan came and dropped some food over here ;; My favorites are their G-pie (Taiwanese fried chicken cutlets) and Pork belly rice plates. Their G-pie by themselves are great as well. My go to drink is taro milk tea with boba (sugar level cannot be changed, but it's not too sweet. Dont get it confused with the taro milk tea). Its the type that actually has taro chunks in it, baby be thicccccc. Their boba is also pretty spot on and not soggy. Extra notes: Parking in this lot is not too hard, it's pretty easy. They provide large amounts of food and the popcorn chicken and minced pork over rice was super flavorful! I loved the potato side, but I believe they switch out the sides so not sure if you can request that one specifically. Went on a Sunday afternoon and it was not that busy. Didn't see any in-house wifi offered although there is a decent Xfinity wifi connection if you personally have Comcast. I didn't order food (as a vegetarian, the main attraction of chicken isn't really an option haha) but friends I went with got a hefty amount of chicken.
