This Taiwanese tea/snack shop was something I tried on a whim one weekday night when I was super hungry and wanted more than just milk tea. One thing that I like to do is order the standard drink and snack combo at a new place: popcorn chicken, and 50% sweet/ 50% ice jasmine green milk tea with boba. If the chicken is crappy and the tea doesn't shine through the sugar, then it's usually a bad sign. In the case of Chick & Tea, the tea was actually very good, fragrant and aromatic. It was a bit on the sweet side for 50% but otherwise okay. The chicken was a bit pricy but the portion given was in line with what you paid for. The pieces were meaty and checked off all the boxes for a crispy salty snack. So why a middle of the road review? I came during their last hour of operation and the place was empty. I usually give credibility to a place if they have customers who linger there to chat for a while. (this visit occurred way before the Corona Virus threat FYI) They also took between 12-14 mins after I ordered to get my two items which I thought was a long time for a snack and drink order. I have wanted to go back there to try it again but they close at 9pm and I usually like to get late night boba after 9pm. This is a cute clean cozy Taiwanese soul foood restaurant in a convenient location. I ordered B11 rice plate and rose flavored milk tea. Bento box was litle more pricey than other boba type place but the menu had many choices. Next time I will try popcorn chicken, jasmin milk tea and calamari. I understand that the servers are still new, but it got so hectic that the owner started just screaming out food items instead of going by the customer number. This spot was part of my 2020 COVID lockdown door dash delivery rotation so having a Taiwanese American wife, we pretty much ordered here once a week. Being a 20 minute drive from our place the chicken held up and wasn't soggy when we ate it. I deducted a star simply because the side variety would sometimes be weak. Like bean sprouts or tofu. Each time we ordered was a hit or miss. If they can be consistent with better sides then I'd give back a star. As a 9-5 person myself, I usually call the restaurant to place an order so I can save some times to pick my food up without having to wait for the food preparation (specifically those restaurants that do not have delivery service). A spot that has snacks and food wins over Happy Lemon for sure. It's a spacious venue with a good amount of seating, if you are dining in.
