This was a very solid Hispanic, Asian fusion place on the UWS! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and most importantly, the portions were HUGE. The food was pretty good and came out super fast. If you're super hungry, looking for something not too expensive and unique, give this place a try

Came to La Caridad 72 with our inner circle Yelp crew and had a fabulous time. First off, let me thank Bea R. and Eloy Y., for the logistics and for recommending this wonderful Chinese/Cuban fusion restaurant. The eatery is very close to the red line subway stop, has very nice fusion decor, an overall cleanliness, a friendly and quick serving staff, and delicious food. We started with alcoholic drinks and they were VERY GOOD: Mojito, Margarita, and Piña Coladas. They were all served in much appreciated large glasses and well presented. The food selections were all shared and thoroughly enjoyed: Palomilla Steak with Fried Rice, Ox Tail, Bok Choy, Fried Chicken, Fried Calamari, and Avocado Salad. Thank you La Caridad 72, for treating us like royalty. We all delighted in your divine cooking and I hope this review will get thousands to experience what we enjoyed and appreciated.

I was told that this would be the greatest experience while in New York and indeed IT WAS! Asian Cuban infused is not much of a thing in the West Coast, so to experience it for the first time it felt like magic. We still dream about this place even now just writing about it. Shrimp Eggfoo young: 100/10 I have had my experiences with eggfoo young and I know I haven't tried all of East Coast version, but having this was THEEEE BEST. They weren't greedy with the shrimp or the gravy! Like HOW CAN YOU BEAT THIS PLACE?! Fried Pork Chop (Spanish plate): 10/10 3 pieces of pork chops on the bone. Served with yellow rice and black bean or pinto. My brother and husband ate the same thing and both cleaned their plates. It also comes with side lettuce, tomatoes and a sliced lemon. You put the lemon on the pork chops and veggies and eat them together. OMG, ITS LIKE NO OTHER. Crackling Chicken (bone-in): 10/10 fried to the perfect crisp with their sauce and a squeeze of lemon was all that you needed for this appetizer. I could honestly just eat it alone and wouldn't be mad - LOL! Overall: 100/10 the ambiance here is immaculate! This place hold a special place with the locals here and was lucky to have been brought here by NY natives who are originally from here. They all say, you haven't had a real NY experience without eating at La Caridada and they weren't lying. We came back the day before we left and grabbed another round before we went back to Da Bay.

La Caridad 72 provides Asian/Cuban based cuisine. We had avocado salad and calamari for appetizers. Calamari was crispy and had that salt/pepper flavor I like which was Cantonese style. Very good. We also had crackling chicken. Crispy outside and tender inside. I wish it comes with some sauce. Boychoy was good, simply sautéed dish. Fried fish with fried rice was great. Love the fish was soft and easy to break apart. Outside breading part was not soggy at all. Beef was not my favorite. I think the pepper came too strong and a little tough to chew. Ox tail stew was delicious and packed with flavors. Very tender. The service is excellent. We had a big group. They were attentive and friendly. Food came out quick and hot. Overall a great place for solo or groups. Many tables. Very spacious and clean. Bathroom is clean.

Cuban-Chinese cuisine was created by Chinese migrants in Cuba in the 1850s, blending flavors and it's in my blood.  After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, many left the island, and some established businesses in the US, mainly in New York City. These restaurants once inhabited Chelsea's Eighth Avenue, Broadway on the Upper West Side, and various main thoroughfares in the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Sunset Park. They numbered perhaps 50 at the height of their popularity. The establishment gives patrons a look into the past when Chinese and Cuban culture collided. One will find a Chinese menu, a Latin menu, and a section that meets in the middle, with combos like ropa vieja with fried rice or General Tso's chicken with fried green plantains. After 52 years in business located on 78th Street, the original La Caridad, meaning "charity" in Spanish, closed during the pandemic and shook the Upper West Side, where my father worked in the 90s. After a couple of weeks in discussion, we have decided to have lunch at the reincarnated La Caridad 72 situated on 72nd St. between Broadway and Columbus Avenue. A reservation was made by calling the restaurant. Upon entering this cozy, clean, and inviting atmosphere as first-timers, we were greeted by the staff and got a table. The menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free options. We decided to share the Fried Calamari, Avocado Salad, Oxtail Stew/Rabo, Beef Steak with Onions, Fried Chicken Crackling, Fried Breaded Fish, and Steamed Bok Choy. We washed them down with some Mojito, Pina Colada, and Margarita. Complimentary bread started our meal. Our eats were a healthy portion, savory and flavorful. The food tasted exactly as I remembered and was so good! The price was fair. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Most importantly, they didn't rush us. Get off the review section and just go. It is truly a neighborhood treasure!

We came here on Saturday noon to meet us some friends for group lunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy but we made reservation anyway. It was a cozy place with tables and booths. There was a small bar as well. In the walls they had lots of cultural artifacts. We started with some avocado and calamari. Both were good. Among the mains we ordered chicken cracking that came with such tasty avocado green sauce, the oxtail that had the meat peeling of the bones mixed in with delicious sauce, the delightful fluffy broiled fish filet, and well made beef steak. The side of fried rice, complimentary bread with butter added to the amazing dishes. We ordered few drinks like mojito, pina colada which were also good. We spent over two hours here, spending a great time. The staff members were very friendly throughout. We got some fortune cookie and guava candies at the end. They also packed our leftovers. Overall loved the whole experience here.

Came here for lunch on a weekday and was seated immediately. The interior feels like a neighborhood Chinese restaurant, down to the zodiac table liners. The servers are so friendly and attentive. They never pressured us when we asked for a few more minutes. (If you're in the area for a movie or show, this is a good spot to get in/out quickly.) As two people, we shared: * Fried Boneless Chicken Crackling - I'm usually not a fan of white meat because it can be rather dry but this chicken was so crispy without losing any of the softness in the meat. * Chinese Style Squid Fried Rice - I always get this when I'm at a chino-latino restaurant. It's less greasy than the version at Flor de Mayo and just as tasty. We left with very full bellies for $20 per person. Super affordable and will definitely be back.

I was craving for fried chicken wings and shrimp fried rice, and my brother recommended La Carisa's 72. it's the coolest, incredible west side cuban , Chinese cuisine that's delectable and best fried chicken wings I've had in a long time. And the delicious shrimp fried rice was so delicious too. The shrimp was tender and fresh. The atmosphere was electrifying and an exciting from all the very satisfied guests. I was meeting my brother for dinner because we had concert tickets for The Legend Mavis Staples at the Beacon Theatre. She and her incredible band, "Took us There" Tonight, New York City paid homage, and received the Legend with OPEN, and LOVING ARMS. Her special guests also included Nora Jones & Allison Russell. OMG‼

I don't know what's happened here. The food used to be fantastic. Went in person and was super excited to go. Ordered my usual. Chicharon de pollo on the bone with house special fried rice. The chicken tasted super old. I was unable to tear the thigh meat it was stringy old, tasted old and was dried out. Absolutely disgusting. Egg drop wonton soup severely lacking in flavor salt and dare I say msg??? Like what the heck?! Wontons devoid of flavor. Soup devoid of flavor. The only redeeming item is the house special fried rice. Tasted just how it should. Fried green plantains no salt. I don't know what's happened here but this is probably the last time I eat or order here. I think the original chef may have retired or something because this was truly a horrible experience. I'm super saddened by what was once an amazing place to eat Cuban Chinese food.

We stopped by on a Saturday night and the place was fairly busy. It's a small restaurant with three rows of tables. We tried the fried chicken and fried pork chops with fries and plantains. One piece of pork chop was super juicy and the other one was dry. The fried chicken had great seasoning and crisp but some of the smaller runty pieces were a little dry. Overall the portions are fairly large and you'll probably have leftovers. The staff were friendly and the food came out quick.

This place has so much history. I came here for a Yelp dinner event and left with a full heart and tummy! We got to try the fried chicken, squid fried rice, sweet plantains, fried yuka, and a yummy dessert. I didn't really see the Chinese side of the food being portrayed as much as the cuban side, but everything was still very delicious. I only got pictures of the fried chicken since I just devoured everything after that point. The company was great and I enjoyed mingling with other Yelpies. Service was top notch too as they were very on top of making sure we all had drinks and clear plates. The owner came out and shared his story of how he became involved in the restaurant and it was very refreshing! I will definitely be back when I am back in the area.

    Fire crackling chicken combo

I absolutely recommend this casual Chinese Cuban place! Staff was so friendly, brought bread & butter few times and kept filled up the water glass. We ordered the oxtail stew and fire cracking chicken combo, and they were delicious. I used the bread to clean the oxtail stew plate, not a drop wasted. We even had leftovers to bring back. By the way, their restroom is so clean, and very important touch to a great dining experience!

Fried Boneless Chicken Crackling, Chopped Beef Lunch Specials
    Christine L.

Came for lunch bc I wanted to try the Chicken Crackling (and see how it compares to La Dinastia). Got the Boneless crackling and also the chopped beef. The crackling was good, but I think I prefer Dinastia's w their green sauce. The chopped beef tasted a bit old, maybe a bad batch? Get the yellow rice though. Lunch special pricing is great- was around $13-15 per dish and comes with bread and butter. Service was good and food came out quickly.

Got off the E train and when we looked for Chinese food, this place popped up with good reviews and it was just a short walk from where we got off the train. My buddies ordered the special lunches and we also got two types of xlb's, beef chow fun, and some fried dumplings. The special lunches come with a little fried rice, cold garlic flavored noodle, choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, and main side. My buddies all enjoyed their meals. The beef chow fun was also really good and beef was nice and tender. The xiao long baos were excellent and is comparable to any place in California like DTF. Nice and juicy and great with some ginger, soy sauce, and spicy chili. Friendly service and food comes out pretty quickly. Credit card is accepted. Bathroom was also very clean, which is sometimes rare in some Chinese restaurants I have been to. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, stop here when you're in the Chelsea area.

"How 'bout there?" he responded pointing to Excellent Dumpling House. It was directly across the street. I pulled up Yelp, saw good reviews and readily agreed. At 3:30, the restaurant was empty. There were a few takeout orders, but we were the only people sitting down for late lunch. And y'know ... it was pretty good. Wonton soup is what I'd expect in Chinatown. Wonton wrappers were thin -- my preference -- the stuffing delicious and the broth flavorful. They were generous with the beef in our chow fun. Good, but the noodles needed a jolt. So I asked for soy sauce which was sort of a solution. Shrimp with vegetables was great. A lot of shrimp, too. There are lunchtime specials on weekdays, reasonable prices, and nice people work there. Next time it makes sense to try dumplings since it is, after all a dumpling house.

Located within the historic Chelsea Market building--a former Nabisco factory where Oreo cookies were first produced--the restaurant feels theatrical in the best possible way. The soaring ceilings, dramatic lighting, and energetic atmosphere create a sense of occasion from the moment you walk in. It feels less like simply going out to dinner and more like stepping into a beautifully staged production. I started with a Botanist Gin Martini with a twist, which paired wonderfully with the meal. The surprise star of the evening was the new Cucumber Tiger Salad. The balance of flavors was exceptional: bright acidity, a pleasant touch of heat, and just enough mint to make each bite feel fresh and exciting. Every so often the mint would come through and suddenly all the flavors would click together in a way that made me immediately want another bite. This is a dish I would happily order again. Next came the Edamame Dumplings. They were delicate and comforting, especially when enjoyed with the accompanying broth. The broth adds depth and richness that elevates the entire dish. My only suggestion would be the slightest touch more salt, perhaps even a finishing sprinkle of black volcanic salt for both flavor and presentation. I also found myself wishing there were a bit more of that delicious broth because it contributes so much to the overall experience. For my entrée, I ordered the Glazed Alaskan Black Cod, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation. The fish was rich, buttery, and perfectly prepared. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the accompaniments were composed. The pickled cucumbers brought brightness, acidity, and crunch, while the black bean and eggplant relish delivered deep savory notes and unexpected complexity. I'm generally not an eggplant fan, but this relish was outstanding. The cucumbers and relish sit at opposite ends of the flavor spectrum, yet both somehow make the cod even better. Looking back, I think a glass of Sauvignon Blanc alongside the cod would have been the perfect pairing. I finished with the Miso Caramel Milk Bar, which was spectacular. Decadent, sweet, salty, and touched with just enough umami to keep every bite interesting. The chocolate crumble underneath added a wonderful crunch that contrasted beautifully with the creamy ice cream and luscious caramel sauce. Every component worked together perfectly, creating a dessert that was both indulgent and sophisticated. From start to finish, the meal felt polished, thoughtful, and memorable. Thank you!
