It's not surprising that there's a…read moregreat deli like this in Cary -- a city as stuffed with new Northeastern transplants as it is depleted of old Southeastern woodlands. Despite the overdeveloped bleakness, Cary is, at least, a good town to find many foods, markets, and restaurants otherwise unavailable in the region. The pastry case has a wide variety of options -- everything you might hope to find in a Portuguese or Italian bakery in New England in the 1980s (my touchstone for fundamental pastries). They are all apparently made on the premises, and have the particular look of pastries from the Northeast. Purely in the interest of scientific research, rather than barbaric gluttony, I tried an apple danish, a cheese danish, and a lemon danish. The cheese danish was faultless in taste: The filling was classic New England bakery cheese filling, and the pastry dough was very soft, and light, but not crumbly. Unlike at some Italian bakeries, it wasn't edge-to-edge filled with cheese (though it was the most edge-to-edge of all three danishes, as is customary for the cheese ones, in my experience); you can, and should, easily remedy this by ordering multiples. The apple danish was of the more cinnamon-crumble-forward style, but it was still terrific. The apples were well-coated small soft bits (unlike at some lesser pastry shops where the apples are crunchy undersweetened slices or chunks). Lemon danishes are very hard to find anywhere, and it was exciting to see one here. It was also excellent. The lemon filling sweated a little bit, so be prepared to get a little sticky (well worth it -- since this is definitely the right kind of filling for a lemon danish). The bagels are also top-notch, as you'd expect. They are a tiny bit lighter and smaller than the classic NY deli bagels were a few decades ago. Which is probably a good thing, since the New York ones seemed to be made from lead-208, all-gluten flour, and condensed dwarf star. The taste is pretty correct, though (as opposed to another bagel shop in the region which does manage to make gigantic leaden NY bagels, but which taste like dense white bread). All of the expected varieties of bagels were at the ready, and in good supply. The bagel/egg/cheese/meat sandwiches are pretty much NY deli accurate (but a little lighter -- which, again, is most welcome, compared to spending the entire morning defeating a NY bodega BEC, and the entire afternoon groaning), and carefully yet briskly prepared (with very good quality meat, and with yellow -- the tastier color -- American). (There also was a slice of chocolate cake -- it, unfortunately, was of the minimally frosted type, with some sort of ill-advised sour cream mixture between the layers. We'll just forget about that item.) The shop itself isn't quite as densely packed (with either people or pastry) as a NY deli, and is also much cleaner and kinder. The service is simply excellent. Customers are all quickly moved through the line, and the orders are prepared very efficiently. Despite the speediness, everyone behind the counter is very friendly and as patient as needed. The speed of the North is combined with the friendliness of the South -- a perfect combination, especially for those of us who are hopelessly impatient, but have no desire to ever be yelled at while at a deli counter again. A great business. I hope they flourish for a very long time.

There was a line when we walked in and it was packed but the wait time wasn't long. They have a few tables indoor and outdoor for seating. We ordered 2 Nova Lox on everything bagels and we waited around 5-8 mins. The bagels weren't great. The lettuce seemed old and the bagels didn't have enough salmon for $15.50 a piece. I also got a black hair in my bagel and I couldn't finish it. When I mentioned it to one of the staff, he offered to make me a new one but I didn't want one anymore.

I cleaned it with a bunch of towels then went to the bathroom and got wet towels and tried again. I saw others wiping down their tables as well. I was greeted by a nice young lady who simply took my card without even making sure she had the right customer. She handed me a tea when I ordered Pepsi. I asked her if she charged me for the correct meal being that she gave me the wrong drink & she frantically asked the guy behind her who assured her that she did. That was fine. She handed me my box, sauce, & correct drink & I made my way down Hwy 55 towards 540 to go all the way back home. Before getting on 55 good, I opened my box to begin nibbling on my fries & was disgusted to find out that they were old, soggy, and tasted like they'd been sitting in a warmer for awhile. I scrapped those & hoped that the chicken strips would be better. NOT!! They, too, were old and could've easily been from yesterday by the taste of them. It's too early to have food this old & I didn't feel like turning around to complain. So, I will just warn you that if you're going to visit, check your food's quality before leaving their lot. There are bottle cap openers mounted on the walls, crates for empties by the trash cans, covered outdoor seating, and prices that are refreshingly affordable. Chick-Fil-A is really the best of the best in regards to fast food chains. I really admire a company that puts their principles into action over profits (remaining closed on Sundays) and I really don't care what others think of it. With that being said Chick-Fil-A couldn't stay in business without having the best chicken in the business and there's no doubt here that when it comes to chicken you're not going to find any fast food chains with better chicken. Yes Popeyes! chicken is totally awesome but it's also a totally different style of chicken than Chick-Fil-A. I think the only food that could challenge them is Raising Cane's chicken. Not only is this restaurant clean and brightly lit, with very friendly people but you will also find the place really a great place to take children as they have a huge area for them to play in. I typically get a spicy chicken sandwich and a side of chicken noodle soup (which is delicious) but their wraps, especially the grilled chicken wrap is great if I'm in the mood to eat a little healthier. At many fast food restaurants the "healthy" food is something you suffer through when you're watching your waistline but not the wraps here, I'd order them just because they are that good. Their fries are really good *IF* they are just fresh made but I find once they get to room temperature they really are pretty average. So make sure that if you get fries you get them hot and eat them while they're hot! P.S. try all of their sauces too with your chicken, especially their version of Sweet and Sour as it is the best sauce you can put on chicken that I've tasted just about anywhere.. read more

I came in tonight and didn't realize it was ten minutes before they close. I normally try and avoid coming in so close to close but I wasn't thinking. I even order decaf coffee which I'm sure they had to make fresh because it was a bit of a wait. I didn't realize how uncool i was being until I sat down and realized how late it was. The employee that I interacted with was still very kind and inviting and even though they had all probably had a long day, the workers were all in great moods still laughing and joking around. The atmosphere was very inviting. I wouldn't have blamed them for being annoyed with me, but they kept up great attitudes. Some people might say that's just doing their job correctly, and that may be, but you don't see it too often (especially in fast food) and went very appreciated. read more

I went to this location today at lunch, I saw an act of kindness that has to be talked about. I witnessed 4 employees standing in the rain to take drive through orders. I watched as what appeared to be a manager come from inside the building, take off his NORTH FACE RAIN COAT and give it to one of the employees who was working! As a manager I have to commend this gentleman on taking care of his employee. Now on to the drive through, today they had a second ordering lane set up with hazard cones.. I was in that line less than 5 seconds and my order was correct and everyone I dealt with was pleasant. Chick filet always goes above and beyond.. but today was out of this world.
