Chick N Roll is a hidden gem in Portsmouth. I am embarrassed to say I live 5 minutes away and had not visited prior to a couple of months ago. We had some blankets and food to donate at Portsmouth Humane Society and after a little geocaching the hunger pains were getting loud enough to hear. Our first attempt Flavor Bar & Grill was closed (despite the posted hours on the door and online) so we settled here. I really wasn't expecting much from a chicken sandwich but when it arrived hot, fresh and bigger than my head I was intrigued. My piece of chicken was so large I was 5 bites in before I even reached the bun! It tasted as though it was cooked with love and despite my trying on 4 separate occasions I just couldn't eat it all. You order your pattie just like you would order your sauced wings. Hubby went with spicy soy and I had original crispy with mayo (they even have spicy mayo). Instead of lettuce they use a slaw that is made with some kind of sweet sauce that was so fresh and different that I just wanted to keep eating. Initially I didn't think I had enough fries but those were the least of my problems because I ran out of belly room 6 bites in. The fries are coated and delectable. Every single item we ordered was hot from the kitchen and tasty. My sandwich was by far the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Y'all, Popeyes ain't got nothing on these folks. The owner kept checking on us to make sure we were happy and didn't need anything. The restaurant was impeccably clean and wiped down between customers. We will surely go back and if you're ever in this area, you'll thank me for recommending them. Went to Chick N Roll for my birthday today, and it was absolutely amazing. I got the Sweet and Savory medium size wings and they were absolutely amazing. I don't know whos cooking the food but they need a raise. Everything else was great. The fries were amazing. They were crispy and crunchy, and packed with flavor. The wings I got were packed with flavor, Smelt amazing and were somehow covered in sauce yet still crunchy. The ambiance was great, but the lighting could be better. Other than that I have nothing else to add. I could confidently say that this is 10 times better than any other wing spot, and these were the best wings I have ever had. This place is soooo good! I ordered the chicken sandwich sweet and savory flavor and crab crunch roll with added cream cheese. That sushi was bomb AF. My sandwich was two chicken strips so it kind of fell apart while eating but it was still very good! My family ordered soy garlic wings, spicy soy garlic, and sweet and savory. They enjoyed them. It was loaded with a tangy slaw, pickles, and a good amount of sauce. I would just suggest not eating it in your vehicle, because I is a bit messy, and the sauce leaks out through the wrapper. I don't know why it took me this long to go to this place (other than the 30 minute drive). This place is superb and well worth going the distance! We walked in and were immediately greeted by the lady at the cashier. It's a pretty simple concept.. You get your menu and look it through, come up to the counter when you're ready to order, and wait for food to arrive at your table. We ended up going with a combo - 3 wings, fries, and fusion b rolls (we chose crunchy shrimp tempura rolls). The flavour of the wings we got with the combo was spicy soy garlic. The sauce was wonderful. Compared to other Korean fried chicken places, this spicy soy garlic was great. I could actually taste the soy and garlic. I think it's my favourite flavour! And even with the sauce, the wings were still so crispy! The rolls were also great. Even though they don't have anything with raw fish, the flavors were still wonderful and one of the better rolls out there. For the small order of wings, I got the spicy lover which had a nice kick. This too, had more depth than other places I've tried. I really liked it, if you enjoy spice, this will be for you. We tried the okinomiyaki and was pleasantly surprised as well. I ordered the spicy garlic soy wings. They were big, crunchy, sticky and delicious! I prefer unbreaded wings but that being said, these were excellent! There was a garnish of cucumber salad that I wanted to make a meal of! The coleslaw was exceptional. It was fresh, not overly mayonnaisey (is that even a word?) and it had a nice tang. The steamed dumplings were freshly made and so delicate they melted in your mouth. My husband had the Spicy California Roll and a vibrant seaweed salad. He said both were delicious! I've been seeing this place pop up a lot on the FB Hampton Roads Restaurant Page, and I've been wanting to try it. I'm not a fan of pickles, but they were easily picked off, and they didn't leave a strong pickle taste. I tried my husband's spicy soy garlic, and it was SPICY! My lips were on fire even after we left. But im so weak sauce when it cones to spicy. We also ordered 2 sushi rolls, just the basic Spicy California and Spicy Tuna...just to try since we didn't wanna get full. They were good, but again, very basic. The next time we go, we'll try the special rolls without getting the chicken sandwich. We were pretty full because of the sushi and how big the sandwiches were. We had leftover chicken to take home. I liked the service. It was extremely fast. We were seated right away. You order at the counter. You grab your own napkins, utensils, sauces, water, etc. The tables were nicely spread apart. My husband and I placed a pick up order about two months ago and it was so good that we've gone back at least 6 more times. Each time we end up getting the same things, he gets the sweet and savory wings and I get the crunchy tempura shrimp roll. Both are so, so good. I don't normally like wings but theirs are delicious. We're in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic so things are not business as usual right now. There's a govt order in place only allowing restaurants to serve take out/delivery but they seem to have adapted well.
