This place is hands down one of my favorites. It might not look like much from the outside, but this hole-in-the wall serves hot and fresh food made to order every time. I've been coming here for the past 4 years. The lady who runs the place always remembers my partner and I and is always friendly and smiling. The fried chicken wings are delicious, the chicken tenders they have come out perfect every time. The seasoning they use on the fries is what I look for at places like this. Cheap n good enough. Not a place you come for expertly battered and perfectly fried chicken, so save your pretentious tastebuds for Popeye's (or Sissy's for some of you stale Uptown Tarts looking to colonize these parts) but when you've got the munchies or smashing a few beers on a lazy day, it's a good deal that'll satisfy and you won't leave feeling robbed for something that should always be inexpensive. I'm reviewing the chicken, but they've also got things like Catfish and Chicken Gizzards. Hell yes. On occasion the chicken can lean a bit too much on the rubbery side unfortunately, but it's never inedible and you get what you pay for. The skin also has room for improvement, but fried chicken is best enjoyed dressed with a gravy, mashed taters (damn right, I used "taters" in a sentence), peppers and pickles, and/or LOUISIANA hot sauce. So these aspects shouldn't really matter all that much, but if you plan or prefer eating fried chicken plain you probably won't be happy here, though no one really cares because you're probably the coworker that brings a celery and carrot plate with low-fat ranch dip to an office pot luck. Go away. I actually really like their French Fries in spite of what's probably just ol skool Lawry's seasoning salt. They typically have a great lil texture and taste to em. Also love the pickles, peppers, and dollar-loaf Kroger white bread slices they throw in the 10-Piece box special. **Best to eat it fresh. Doesn't microwave well, so use the oven if you must reheat. Last, the lovely lady at the counter who might be one of the owners is quite a bit more friendly and helpful than your usual grease pit personnel. She'll always get my money. read more

This location used to be the great Brothers Chicken so if you are thinking hey maybe someone just took over the greatness that was Brothers Chicken and just renamed you will be sadly disappointed. We LOVED brothers chicken so we thought we would give this place called Chicken house a chance. When we ordered our food and pulled up to the window we asked the asian lady if it is still the same as Brothers and she assured us yes it is and that she even rehired Brothers staff. I have to tell you there is no way in h*ll that this is the same place. Don't believe the people on here reviewing this and saying it is the same recipe because I would be willing to put money on the fact that it's not. The food here isn't going to win any culinary awards, but it's cheap and comes in huge portions. I ordered the chicken strips basket, and each of the four strips was the size of a small chicken breast. They were super meaty, not like some strips which are mostly breading. I could only finish half my meal before I was full. The basket also came with fries, which were mediocre but edible, and a little bag of pickled vegetables (a jalapeño, carrot slices, and pickles), which is a typical inclusion in Korea but will probably seem odd to most people. They're free, though, and since everything else is deep-fried, you might as well get a vitamin or two. The chicken basket comes with a little tub of gravy. I'm not much of a gravy person, so I didn't eat it. Honey mustard sauce is extra ($.59), and it was okay, but I would have really liked some more sauce choices. Overall, the food was good for the price, and I'll probably go back next time I want something quick, greasy, and cheap. One other note: we tried to order delivery, and they said it wasn't available. I don't know if that's typical or temporary, but they do offer take-out. read more

I'm new in town and I have had my eye on this place to give it a try. After a long day at work and a couple things to celebrate my spouse and I decided to give this place a go; we headed over looking forward to some good greasy fried food to celebrate our good news. Problem is when we get to the place the "open" sign is lit but the door is locked. We could see two ppl in there cooking/working but no sign on the door to give instructions about what to do for carry out. I knocked several times for a couple of minutes and they just ignored us. Both the man and the woman inside working made a point not to look up or make eye contact. It was my spouse and I and a senior citizen standing there outside trying to figure out what was going on. The drive through was busy so maybe they are drive through only. A simple sign or some acknowledgement of the 3 human souls knocking on the door would have easily conveyed that info. Hey it's cool--I don't have to beg them to take my money. It must be nice to feel like they can just ignore potential customers. BAG OF BUGS!!! Ok so I am a fried chicken connoisseur. Since I've lived in Oak Lawn I have made it my mission to eat every fried chicken meal within a 10 mile radius. Frills not necessary, sides are an after thought, just give me a hot juicy piece of good old fashioned southern fried chicken. So that's me in a nutshell. My expectations are fair. I have eaten at the Chicken House a total of 4 times now. On The first trip I had a 2 piece and a side of fried okra. It was hot, well seasoned and delicious! I was in foodie nirvana. Second and third visits were not quite as impressive. My chicken was dry instead of moist and it was closer to room temperature than hot. And this is a small thing, but the white bread they throw in was actually stale. Really? Why? Of course at this point I'm chasing that first meal "high" like a dope fiend. Alright so now onto my 4th and final meal at the Chicken House. I got a 2 piece special yesterday at dinner time. It consisted of 2 breasts, fries and of course the bread, pickles and a jalapeño. I drive home planning to enjoy my chicken special while I binge on Netflix. As soon as I got home and took my food from the bag and placed it on my TV tray in the living room, I was disgusted to see that no less than 5 gnats were circulating around my dinner. Seriously. Gnats. At first I thought, are these possibly 'my' gnats? But then I realized that #1 I'm in the living room and #2 I hadn't seen any gnats in my kitchen or anywhere else in my condo. Obviously I had transported gnats from the Chicken House to my house. So instead of eating dinner, I was swatting flies! Needless to say, given the fact that my dinner had already been sampled by tiny flying freeloaders, the whole thing went into the trash! Inconsistent quality is an understatement. I disagree with the previous review. My wife and I ate at Brothers once a week for several months and have eaten there several times since the name change. The chicken recipe is identical and is still the best fast food chicken I have ever had in that it is delightfully crunchy and seasoned to perfection. As for the other things, I wouldn't know because I am not silly enough to order anything but chicken at a fried chicken shack in the south. It drives me crazy when I hear people go to bbq or chicken shacks in the 'hood and complain about the sides. They have obviously missed the point as most of these places do one thing well and that is what they are known for. read more

Easily my favorite chicken spot in Dallas. The family that runs the place is so very nice and always remembers you which is a great thing to experience when you go out somewhere. WAS a huge fan of this place, but lately, not so much. Chicken doesn't taste as fresh as it use to and feel the owner is cutting corners.
