I love the food here, however, I tried their chicharrones dish for the very first time and was disappointed. I waited almost 1/2 hr to get a dish that was extremely blandmeat was tough and no flavor! I immediately went to Costco and bought me a slab of pork belly. The pic is my final product! Delicious. I'm looking for a restaurant that serves good crispy pork belly in Waldorf?

Update: Someone has responded to my review, seemingly defending the experience I had. No we did not pick our food up after the recommended time for p/u when I placed the order. We have young children and we like to feed them well before 9 so we definitely didn't come at closing time. Nonetheless as I said the experiences we've had since the fire are definitely less enjoyable. ------------Chicken Rico was once our families favorite no cooking night meal. Once they had that fire and did renovations, we have seen a big change in everything; the gravy is very watery now, the chicken has less flavor, the prices are higher. It's just not the same, unfortunately. In our most recent visit I called ahead and placed an order for Lomo saltado. My sister also placed an order for pick up of half chicken and sides, my husband went to pick up our orders and ordered the rest of our selections inside. He got two whole chickens and 3 large sides. He said they didn't have many side selections, only options available that evening were the mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and fried rice. My lomo saltado was dry, cold and not very appealing. I usually love it. The chicken was also pretty bland that day. We wasted a lot of food, I really wish the food was as good as it once was. Not sure what changed but it's something. The inside of the restaurant is also clean, lines are never too long when I go. Customer service is always good.

Came here on 11/16/24. Been to this location a couple of times and never had any issues in the past. But today was a different day. I guess they had a large catering order and wasn't prepared for it. I was hungry for there ribs and was told that it was a 45 minute wait. Chicken had a wait time as well. So I decided to on the Carne asada with black beans, rice and green beans. The steak was bland and very disappointing no seasoning and spice no where to be found. I was heavily disappointed since I have Eaten here numerous times. The sides were good which was the saving grace because that steak was an EPIC!!!!!!!!!! Fail. The restaurant is always clean and customer service is good as well. But, that steak was extreme let down.

If you're looking for Peruvian chicken in Waldorf area, I suggest Chicken Rico. The line is always long, but the food is always consistent. We always get the family dinner to share. I said are usually spinach and the chicken fried rice. We love the yellow and the green sauce, the prices are reasonable check it out if you're in Waldorf Maryland it's in the same shopping center as the chipotle. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ok, so I'm writing this review as I sit on the commode....I went there yesterday and always get the same thing chicken steak sub. The first time I got it, it was really good, and I have been getting them whenever I'm in that part of town, but the last two times upset my stomach. It's the grease, and maybe old meat but I feel it and it's not good. I recommend everything on the menu except the greasy grill. read more

Straight to the point: The chicken is always hot and juicy. The yellow sauce could be tweaked a bit more to taste less like Mayo. The green sauce will burn ya ass. The mixed veggies are bland while the green beans are well seasoned. But let's get into how every damn time y'all burning the plantains bro...ease up on cooking so many at a time. Was wondering why I always had stomach issues after eating from here, well I was told that the pork ribs are cooked along with the chicken in the rotisserie. Plus unless you request to have your chicken cut up separately on the cutting board(on a paper plate) you're definitely getting your chicken seasoned with pork remnants and juices. I don't eat pork so it's a hard no for me. read more

Finally tried this place and was kinda let down. The smell of the food smells sooooo good, the chicken however ( I ordered half chicken white) was dry!!!! Mashed potatoes were ok ...green beans just ok as well. My son had a cheeseburger which looked good (thick patty) and the fries taste good. I do want to return to try their steak and cheese. The best Pollo a la Brassa place we've found in the area. The chicken is always juicy and flavorful. The Yucca fries are a total addiction. The Creamed Spinach is our other favorite side. (They have a really good selection of sides and they always look fresh - unlike many other places.) Really good salads with lots of toppings. The desserts are delicious. Get the cookies! Now 3 months into covid, I selected this restaurant to show support during this time. Walking in, I noticed the decent selection on the menu but gravitated toward the salad options. I ordered the Rico salad. I was pleasantly surprised that it was filled with only white meat chicken. On the other hand, I was disappointed that there was limited lettuce and tomatoes (ie the salad veggies). This salad was more like a bowl with lots of beans, chicken, and cheese. While Chicken RICO will not be in my rotation for a good salad, I plan to visit again for a standard Peruvian chicken platter to try out. read more

One of my family and I's favorite Peruvian chicken restaurant in Southern Maryland! The chicken is cooked perfectly and the sides are delicious! This is my second time ordering from here. They move quickly and the food tastes great. Definitely one of the best Peruvian places I've tried. I recommend the half chicken with two sides meal or the tender carne asada which also comes with two sides. Currently with COVID-19 they are still operating with masks and gloves. Once they reopen for dining I encourage you to take the time to appreciate the beautiful and detailed artwork throughout the restaurant. read more

Stopped for takeout at 3pm while driving down 301. It was busy but the line moved fast. The chicken was delicious, especially dipped in the green sauce! (Green beans and fried plantains were tasty too.) Worth the stop if you are driving through. read more

Go to spot when I know I want something that won't disappoint me. I enjoy eating the ribs and chicken. Plus, the sides are always good as well. Usually, I get the spinach or chicken fried rice. Which, comes with chunks of chicken in it. I love it. Also, if your a salad lover like me. I love that fresh lettuce taste with onions and tomatoes. read more

Chicken Rico first started in 1970 in Lima, Peru. We quickly won over our customers with mouth-watering chicken that was marinated in traditional Peruvian spices and cooked in a charcoal oven. Our Waldorf location has been serving the community since 1999. Our goal has always been to bring the flavors and atmosphere of Peru to Waldorf. Fernando is from Peru, where he had his own restaurant as well. He has been in the industry for years, and when he moved to Waldorf he realized that there were no good Peruvian restaurants available. Unfortunately, it was nothing like what we expected, and the food was extremely disappointing. Then I found out the owner is Bolivian not even Argentinian. The chimichurri was red and had a very different taste than what we expected. The green hot sauce was basically like eating raw jalapeño--extremely overpowering. The mashed potatoes were watery and very salty, and the broccoli was literally sitting in so much water that almost half of the bowl was full of it. The rice tasted like microwave rice, and the French fries were just ordinary fries. The biggest disappointment was the meat. It was extremely fatty, chewy, and had almost no flavor. The chicken was overcooked and tasted like leftovers that had been reheated. For an Argentinian restaurant, the quality and preparation of the meat should be one of the highlights, but unfortunately, it was the complete opposite. Honestly, we could barely eat our food and ended up leaving most of it. What made the experience even worse was that, despite barely being able to eat the food, we were still charged half of the meal. The total bill was over $85, and that included $5 for a small cup of what tasted like microwave rice. Just in case the food looks half-empty in the pictures, we did put some of the food onto our plates to try it. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat it, so that's why some of the containers look partially empty. As someone who was genuinely looking forward to trying Argentinian food, this experience was incredibly disappointing. In my opinion, this restaurant does not represent the quality or flavors that people expect from Argentinian cuisine. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant, and I would not return.

When Service Fails Before the Food Begins The Famous Chef Thomas walked in for what should have been a simple quick bite to eat. Nothing complicated. No special demand. No grand production. Just a customer entering a place of business expecting the most basic form of hospitality: acknowledgment. Instead, the workers continued about their business as if the Famous Chef Thomas was invisible. No greeting. No "I'll be right with you." No "Are you ready to order?" No sign that anyone understood that a paying customer had entered the establishment. So the Famous Chef Thomas waited. Then waited again. Then waited some more. At a certain point, silence becomes communication. When employees see a customer standing there and continue moving around without taking an order, without offering direction, and without showing the slightest concern, the message is clear: your business is not valued here. Finally, the Famous Chef Thomas had to ask, "Is anyone taking orders?" The response was not service. It was confusion. Blank looks. Dumb stares. The kind of stare that makes a customer wonder whether ordering food has suddenly become a complex negotiation instead of a basic transaction. And that is when the Famous Chef Thomas rule applies: Do not stay where you are not wanted. A restaurant, carryout, café, or food counter does not get to take customers for granted. The food may be good. The prices may be fair. The location may be convenient. But none of that matters if the first ingredient offered is disrespect. Service begins before the food is cooked. It begins at the moment a customer walks in. A simple greeting costs nothing. A basic acknowledgment costs nothing. Telling a customer, "Give me one moment," costs nothing. But ignoring a customer costs everything. The Famous Chef Thomas left because dignity is not optional. No meal is worth standing around like a ghost while workers act as if the customer is interrupting their day. The Famous Chef Thomas does not recommend staying anywhere that makes you feel unwanted before you even place an order. ------------------------------------------------------ Update after owner response: The owner's response confirms the problem better than the original review ever could. The issue was never whether the food is laborious. The issue was hospitality. Flame management does not prevent a staff member from saying, "Good afternoon, we'll be right with you." Attention to the grill does not eliminate the basic responsibility of acknowledging a customer who walks in prepared to spend money. A restaurant can take pride in difficult food preparation and still understand simple customer service. No one asked for special treatment because of the title "Famous Chef." No one demanded that the flames be abandoned, the kitchen be stopped, or the staff rush the food. The expectation was basic acknowledgment. There is a difference between waiting and being ignored. The owner says the Famous Chef Thomas waited 1 minute and 6 seconds. That statement is supposed to make the customer look unreasonable, but it actually reveals the mindset. The owner is measuring hospitality with a stopwatch instead of understanding the customer experience. A customer should not have to stand in silence wondering whether orders are being taken. A customer should not have to interrupt staff just to find out if anyone is working the counter. A simple greeting would have ended the entire issue. Instead, the response is defensive, dismissive, and arrogant. The statement "there's other places that will fulfill that need" is exactly correct. There are other places that understand that service begins before the food is served. There are other places that can manage fire and still manage manners. There are other places that know customers are not an inconvenience. The Famous Chef Thomas rule remains unchanged: Do not stay where you are not wanted. The food has been consistent and great. Although the customer service (and english) can be improved, the food makes up for it. I'm very satisfied with the food that I've eaten. I've had the chicken with almost every side, the rico salad, the lomo and chicken saltado (my personal favorites), the papa rellena, and the ceviche de pescado. Some people complain about the time it takes to cook the dishes, but that's exactly how long it takes any restaurant that makes your food to order. This isn't a McDonalds where they just place pre-packed meat between buns. Nothing in the menu is pre-cooked to speed up the cooking time - well... nothing but the charcoal chicken (which takes about 1 hour to cook). Still to me it is worth the wait. read more

They were okay in the first few months but they have continued to degrade both in food taste, restaurant cleanliness and customer service. I went the other day for the second time in a couple months dirty tables, none of the employees speak English or seem friendly, and the food was nothing impressive... For my first visit, I was actually surprised at how large the menu was. I can honestly say that I have not had anything bad. The Yucas are fresh. The vegetables are great. The sandwiches always hit the spot. The salads are entree portions, so they're decently large. I love the quick and friendly service every time I come visit. 4 out of 5 stars only because I feel like the chicken lacks flavor. The chicken is tender and mildly smoky, but it seems to be only seasoned with salt and pepper which is completely fine for most people. However, I prefer a more robust flavor profile. read more
