My wife was really wanting to go here recently, and I decided to give it a try. I'm not a huge chicken salad person, so I had been resisting it. I looked over their menu and decided to out their pimento cheese. I got the spicy pimento cheese BLT and was very pleased with it. I would, however, probably choose the normal pimento cheese the next time I order here. Now I'm normally a fan of spice, but I like heat for flavor, not heat for heat's sake. So here's your warning. Their spicy pimento cheese is HOT. I still enjoyed it, but it was almost too hot for me, so for those who do not like heat will definitely find it too hot. But I do like that when they say something is spicy it is indeed spicy, and not just like 5% spicier.

Despite being fairly busy and a customer appreciation day with free scoops for customers, we got right in and ordered. The staff at the counter was very polite, cheerful, ans efficient. Food was absolutely wonderful as usual. My wife and I met for a late lunch on this visit ( around 1:30 pm on a weekday). The facility is well maintained as well. Wife got the melt meal with a potato soup and I opted for a carb conscious big portion of the spicy Kickin' Kay Lynne. Everything was great.

So far I have only picked up to go for this location. If you are fan of chicken salad then you will not be disappointed. With many options to choose from, you are bound to find a flavor/style to your liking. If you are not a big fan of chicken salad, there are a few other items to choose from as well. I like to get "The Chick" and add a scoop, then there is plenty to share and you get to choose multiple options. If you are uncertain about a particular flavor, they will give you a small taste to try before ordering. This is particularly useful with the seasonal varieties or if you are trying to decide between 2 flavors. Only negative to this location that I have seen is the access. It can be challenging to turn left into or out of the parking lot. Probably near impossible in the evenings during "rush hour".

Chicken Salad Chick you have won my heart! I visited for the first time, with my 2 littles and had a great experience! We were warmly welcomed at the counter, the place was pretty steady and lots of patrons seated. They have so may options of cs, fruited, nuts and other, Probably 12-15 kinds if I could guess. We ordered a scoop of the original, The Dixie Chick, which has onion flavors and The Scotty, which has bacon and cheese. My kids also got 2 fancy decorated sugar cookies. We sat outside and within 5 minutes our food came out. The 3 scoops were served with crackers, on a bed of lettuce and with a tiny, cute sugar cookie! The lady that brought our food was so sweet, she even grabbed us extra tableware and napkins! We really enjoyed this place and can't wait try a family meal to go!

Chicken Salad Chick opened today, and they did not disappoint! This location is super spacious, and decorated super cute! I got The Chick special of a toasted wheat sandwich with Kickin Kay Lynne as my chicken salad. Spicy but just right! You get your choice of a side which I chose pimento cheese. I tried the spicy pimento cheese too, but the regular flavor was DELICIOUS! Almost as good as the pimento cheese I make at home. Ha. I highly recommend this place for a casual lunch.

Soooo it was...ehh pretty good. So we were there for the opening and we stood in line for what felt like ever. I truly thought that it would be absolutely amazing and it was just okay. Now the Staff, including the owner were all very nice and talkative and attentive. Absolutely lovely. But the food was just okay... weirdly a little dry in some parts of the chicken salad. The pimento cheese was pretty good. The portion sizes were good. Food 3/5 Service 5/5

If you are looking for a variety of different flavored chicken salad, Chicken Salad Chick is the place to go! From Classic Carol to Buffalo Barclay, surely they have a flavor to please your taste buds. When I first walked in Jamie greeted with awesome customer service. Jamie was very helpful in helping me decide on what chicken salad to buy. They allow you to sample your choice of chicken salad before you buy it(no,the samples are not big so don't go in there thinking you are going to get full off the samples and not have to buy anything lol!). The meal I decided on came with two scoops of chicken salad of my choice and a chicken salad sandwich with my choice of bread. It also came with a Butter cream frosted cookie( Which is the only desert I saw in their menu) and crackers. I only paid $10.99, which wasn't bad because they give you a nice amount of food. If you want to dine in,feel free to do so in their lovely indoor dinning area or you can enjoy your food sitting in their outdoor dinning area. The parking seems to be ok due to the fact that the parking lot was pretty empty. My food was ready within minutes so koodos to the kitchen staff!! And last but not least tommorow(1/23/20) is customer appreciation day and they are giving away a free scoop of Classic Carol! If you haven't been here it is definitely worth trying. I hope you like it as much as I did.

Service at the bar was good considering every seat at the bar was taken. We ordered our food and it was out within 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken, but subbed the sides for the whole fried okra and Gouda grits. When I say those grits and okra hit.....somebody in that kitchen knows what they're doing! The chicken breasts were juicy and flavorful. The spice level was typical for Nashville hot chicken, which I sometimes I can't take. But I loved the flavor so much I couldn't stop eating it. It had a good energy right away. I had been looking at a few things on the menu and was really going back and forth. I was interested in the hot chicken, the Brussels sprouts, and also the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. They told me both were really good, and I ended up going with the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It was very good. Picture below. Between the crowded room, the good service, and the food, this was a very strong experience all the way around. I am giving The Southern Kitchen & Bar 5 stars.

It's kind of hard to tell what all the food options are, so I had to ask what some stuff was. I managed to get a meat and 2 instead of a meat and 5! There were quite a few veggie options that looked amazingly delicious! I do not recommend coming here hungry or hangry. Ok, sooo I love meat loaf so naturally that's what I got. I also got collards and cornbread dressing & yes they had cranberry sauce. Everything was good tasting. The meatloaf was a little sweet to my taste so I probably wouldn't order it again. The veggies were not over seasoned or overcooked. I will definitely comeback here bc there is still just so much I wanna try. The staff is nice and took care of the crowd. I even witnessed them give a person in need food, as they were about to dig in the restaurant's garbage can outside for scraps. Made me count my blessings.. all of them! There is street parking only. A la cart is available as well. They have ice tea or lemonade drinks in a cup that they also serve you. Lemonade was good. There's a very small counter to pay after you order. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

I can see why people love them so much - the biscuits were warm and had a soft texture, but what I thought shined was the butter. It was unbelievably smooth, sweet (but not too sweet), and just... had such a good flavor to it. I'd get it again. The Middlins was sooo decadent too. Full of flavor and different textures. I'd get this one again. The steak was really good, except, it was actually lukewarm when they served it to us. I was super surprised for a restaurant like this. Each plate is always served fresh and hot. It has also quickly become my Dad's favorite as well. Conveniently located on the edge of downtown but away from the hustle and bustle of Med Center. The tables are constantly being cleaned and there is always a place to sit even during peak hours. The food options will make your taste buds sing "Hallelujah" it's SO good. Even writing this post is making me want some of their perfectly prepared fried chicken. They also offer a separate Brunch menu on Saturday.

We arrived fairly early, shortly after opening, but the place was already bustling and the hot bar was full of yummy-looking and smelling food. It has a pleasant, sort of old-timey feel, which makes sense given it's been open since the 70s. This is a "Greek and three," fairly common in Bham, so they offer country cooking favorites like fried chicken in addition to Greek foods like souvlaki. You order as you move through the line in front of the hot bar. The food is protected from guests by glass so it doesn't feel as icky as a buffet does (to me, at least). The folks working the hot bar were pleasant and working diligently. There was one waitress who was suuuuper bossy and a little short with me (she really didn't want me to stand still and look at a paper menu, apparently), but she eventually warmed to us after my dad chatted her up while she was getting our drinks. I ordered fried chicken with yams and fried okra. My mom also got fried chicken, hers with mashed potatoes and cabbage. My dad tried the baked Greek chicken with green beans and macaroni and cheese. I snagged a roll and a sweet tea to drink. The tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. The food was overwhelmingly quite solid. My fried chicken breast wasn't ready when I ordered it so I had to wait a while for it to be prepared, but on the bright side it arrived piping hot and super crispy. It was great fried chicken, clearly brined and flavorful throughout, not just on the crunchy batter. The yams were nicely spiced and not overly soft. The fried okra was a delight as well, crispy and plentiful. The roll was average, but nbd. My parents were also quite happy with their meals. My mom RAVED about the cabbage and ate all her mashed potatoes and gravy. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding (I wish I'd gotten three sides and it been my third). The Greek chicken was succulent and light. The only so-so item was the green beans, and even those were decent. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Birmingham! One of the better meat and twos/threes I've had in a while.
