Since we haven't been to a RR in prolly 20+ years, we turned down the barkeep's offer of RR's Loyalty Program. I never expected to return here even before we get our chow. I just wanted to whet my whistle and have a burger. Period. When our food came out, I felt justified in not bothering with their loyalty program. Don't get me wrong: our food was fairly good. I just wouldn't ride 10 miles out of my way for it like I would for Abe's Place. With that, we both opted for their smaller burgers, which constitute 2 2oz. patties rather than one 6oz. patty. Queen Bee: Pig Out Burger...think a Quarter Pounder with cheese deluxe with bacon. THIS bacon was actually candied though. As a result, it had a sweet tanginess and slight crisp one would never expect otherwise.Only thing: they didn't put tomato on it. Side of steak fries for both her and me. Yours Truly: Red's Tavern Burger, sans tomato (I guess they assumed neither one of us wanted tomato). Also coming on a sesame seed bun, this lil burger that could reminded me more of a Big Mac without that damn miserable middle slice of bread. Normally: lettuce tomato and what they call tavern sauce. Both burgers features two 2oz beef patties, as I said above. Their small size allowed a deep, fantastic char and caramelization that a big azz 6oz. patty probably would never have. Another bonus: steak fries! Bottomless steak fries at that! I prefer steak fries over those crappy shoestring things one gets at fast food joints. Each entree comes with a bottomless side, of which there are a few. There are a few "upgrade" sides that cost a bit more while only giving U one helping. OK: go ahead and do the math, folks. There was modern pop and some Christmas music playing overhead and a few simple Christmas decorations up too. As it was a midweek midday when we stopped in, there wasn't a large crowd either. As is usually so in places such as these...why yes: we sat at the bar! Shayna was/is a good, solicitous barkeep. She also had to take care of all the tables in the bar area, so she was a busy young lady the whole time. Oh, BTW: remember that loyalty program I told you I wasn't gonna bother with? It really adds meaning to that first cup and shows how thoughtful First Watch is about what they serve. We started with the freshly baked mini buttermilk biscuits sprinkled with sugar and served with salted honey butter and warm mixed berry compote. Absolutely delicious and the perfect way to kick things off. For the kids, we ordered two meals. One was the chocolate chip pancake, which was a huge portion and came with fresh fruit including pineapple, grapes, and blackberries. The other was over easy eggs with Million Dollar Bacon and a half waffle. Both kids cleaned their plates and were very happy. For the adults, we ordered two Avocado Toasts made with thick-cut whole grain artisan toast, fresh smashed avocado, EVOO, lemon, Maldon sea salt, and two perfectly basted cage-free eggs. Fresh, flavorful, and very satisfying. We also had the Morning Market Veg Omelet made with house-roasted zucchini, crimini mushrooms, shallots, kale, and tomatoes, finished with goat cheese and fresh herbs. It was served with lemon-dressed organic mixed greens and whole grain artisan toast and was absolutely delicious. I want to thank Edie for her patience and kindness and helping me customize our orders. Everything came out perfectly! Also, I was really surprised by their salad bar it was very clean and organized And they kept all the food well maintained. The only thing that wasn't our liking was the kids meals the cheese pizza was very doughy and the kids tenders breading wasn't very crispy. Overall, a good experience and will definitely be back.
