I like the staff and ribs from this location. I've been to the one on Woodward in Royal Oak a few years back and haven't forgotten it. It wasn't memorable regarding the food but how staff communicated with one another. Not sure how it's done at the Grosse appointed location, but customers don't hear it. I stopped into Chicken Shack to try their battered chicken sandwich, only. I added spicy Mayo and pickles. They have a $5 special at this time. The sandwich is delicious & the bun is fresh. It hit the spot. The cashier was friendly and efficient. I have 1 suggestion. Please clean the entrance/exit glass door. The number of fingerprints on it made me reluctant to touch it at all. This used to be my go to place at lunch for chicken and the amazing breasted potato wedges. Unfortunately, they have really regressed in quality. My most recent trip found the chicken to be very dry and lacking much flavor. The potato's were soaked in butter which made them soggy and overly flavored with the butter making them almost inedible. read more

Just getting bbq! Is almost a 5$ surcharge now! Ordered the rolls multiple times, and never got them. Dont bother anyway though, they arent the big fluffy ones anymore you wanted to dip in the broasted potato butter (if you even get that), but smashed grocery store ones from a national distributor. Dont bother walking in if you dont want to wait 45 minutes (even on a slow night) and theres very little parking available. I have patronized this location for as long as I can remember. As far back to when they served smelts. However, for the past year or so the customer service and sometimes the food have been far less than acceptable. Especially the phone customer service. I preferred when the high school students ran the store. They were far more professional than the current staff. Well there's the obvious- the chicken. I think there is crack in the oil, because I always crave more after I've eaten here. The chicken wings they have here are also on point. In addition to the chicken, the potato wedges they have here are delicious. Saturated in salt and butter, sure they're a heart attack waiting to happen, but if you're going to a fried chicken joint, you might as well go for the gold. Lastly, the cole slaw. Let me tell you I HATE COLE SLAW, hate might not be a strong enough word to describe my feelings for the cole slaw. But here at Chicken Shack? She didn't lie, it is up there on the list for all the chicken I have had so far in the area. I ordered two pieces of chicken (dark meat) with broasted potatoes (extra butter). Came with a drink and a dinner roll and total cost less than $8. Waited for ~10 mins and food arrived hot. Everything are cook to order. The food definitely worth a short wait. My coworker and I ordered Doordash two chicken tender snacks with roasted potatoes a side of cole slaw with two bbq sauces. They screwed up and made the wrong food so they gave me all the extra. But it took twice as long and sucked up almost my whole break. Down side: chicken bites were soooo disappointing. The food, while not inedible, is only acceptable as scraps for pigs and, even then, would probably qualify as animal cruelty. When we asked if some of our items could be comped, a reasonable request as we only tried a bite out of each of the horrid dishes, we were told, "Everything you ordered and touched will be on your bill." What a disaster of a "restaurant." We paid, of course, and tipped our server over 20% but I strongly hope they find another job.
