Place had good reviews and based on all of the hype around having good cheesesteaks in the south jersey area decided to give this a try. Place was a bit difficult to find, had to call into the place in which the worker gave me an address different from my gps and was able to find it. Nonetheless, the cheesesteak was pretty good. The steak was pretty flavorful but nothing out of this world to ha e me rushing back again. Bread was soft and paired well with the meat. The cheese in I'm the sandwich must be cooked so fine as you barely see any with the naked eye nonetheless you can taste it. For those of you who are cheese whiz fanatics, go elsewhere. For the mushroom lovers, you can find a nice distinct flavor paired well with the beef and cheese. As far as size, it's your average size cheesesteak you'd get in Philly. Would I recommend? Yes, however although I've had better, I'd say it's worth a shot especially if you're nearby. read more

Had a cheesesteak, it was ok. The sandwich was dominated by roll. The roll engulfed the meat, cheese and onions and was very doughy. If your in the area it's worth a try but I wouldn't go out of my way or make a special trip for it. Business is not easy to spot, it's in a road/alley. So drive slow or you'll miss it. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by a nice lady! She ran through the menu and their process of ordering. I got the traditional cheesesteak. Its on par with my other fav cheesesteak spots ive been to around the country. At $8 you cant beat it. You can tell they use quality meat and bread. Everything was cooked fresh. I reserve my all-time 5-star chesesteak rating for Sonny's in c-city, but I have to give Chick's 5 stars for the best cheesesteak in NJ. Very impressed were we! As others have mentioned, great roll, good meat, and tasty cheese, all in good proportions. The tips about how to get here are all true, it's a little tricky to find, but knowing that ahead, and bringing a direction-talking i-phone will help! The staff is super friendly and kind. I called ahead from the bridge as we crossed into NJ and the woman was really nice to take our order and have it ready so we could stop and keep going on our way to the beach. All the people in there seemed like laid back decent people, looking to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and good food! Perfect cheesesteak! And it's IRONIC that Chick's won the "Best of Philly" , 2003 , being it's NOT even IN Philly. Chick's has been around since 1957, steaks cooked to order, unlike some of the big name joints in Philly.. and it really makes a difference; nice to get a real hot, juicy cheesesteak, instead of the lukewarm one I had at places like Jim's Steaks .. (where tons of meat lays on top of each other on the grill ) I advise you to preprint a map from google.com before you attempt to find Chick's.... even WITH my google map, I was still glad to also have my backup portable GPS navigator with me.... I was disappointed with my last visit. Prices seemed to go up with the pandemic. I used to get their Italian hoagie at least a couple times a month. I had heard good things about their steaks. It cost over $10 with tax. I thought well if it's a decent size and good quality fine.. I ordered it with Provolone cheese and fried onions. After reading numerous yelp reviews, I got the Philly chicken buffalo steak. It couldn't find the establishment, so I called the store and I was literally a 20 second walk away... The person who answered my phone call joked about how I was the easiest person to give directions to hahah. With that being said customer service 5/5. The lady who took my order had an amazing and welcoming smile as well. The food was a huge portion and was an amazing value for the price! As for the taste, I LOVED the cheese! It was amazing and melted and I wish it was on the whole sandwich evenly rather than just the corners. The bread you can tell was fresh from the first bite. The chicken itself was okay. Actually I wasnt sure if it was steak or chicken... But the flavor of the buffalo sauce was amazing. They also had tons of options from chips to sweets to drinks. I got a in house cookie. It was pretty tastey, but one of things I'd suggest to take the cookie flavor to the next level is heat it in the microwave or heater... yummm Overall I would definitely recommend this place to others! This place was a find! It's hidden on a small street that is no wider than an alley and I drove around the block a few times before I realized it was actually a street. I was determined to find this Philly cheesesteak that I've heard so much about and I'm glad I did. It was worth every wrong turn and getting off I295 to finally have this perfect hoagie. The steak was finely chopped without the usual grease and it sat perfectly on the bread without getting soggy. I had mine with provolone cheese, grilled onions, and hot peppers. The cheese was sharp with a lot of flavor that made it better than any I've ever had. There was just enough grilled onions and peppers that did not over power the taste. I highly recommend there tasty cheesesteak to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. The next time I'm driving from NY to NC I'll make sure to find my way back to this hidden gem. read more
