I don't like to leave poor reviews, but this experience was so shocking I needed to put it out there. I stopped on a Friday morning to see about getting a new pair of boots stretched to feel better on my bunions (I've never had this done before so I'm not familiar with process or how long it takes). The man who assisted me - the younger of the two working - grabbed the boots and started taking my info. When I innocently asked if I could pick them up the next day I was met with snarkiness and sarcasm. "No, because we aren't open tomorrow and stretching takes a lot longer than that." When I asked for clarification on the process/timing he snidely said "It depends, so no, you won't have them in time for the rodeo. 1) I never mentioned a rodeo, and to assume that's the only occasion/event that warrants a new pair of boots is both ignorant and ridiculous 2) If you're not open on Saturdays it would be wise to update your hours of operation listed on Google - where it states you're open from 9:00 - 5:00 3) If you're at the point you hate your job/profession that much it's time for you to move on because, while people will pay for your services, I - and those like me - won't tolerate your misdirected frustration with life I left and went to Andre's, and my boots will be ready tomorrow. An appointment with CJ cost us $40 and it was well worth it. He takes all the time needed to assess your foot and alignment so bring a bag of your well worn shoes. He will modify existing shoes if he can but it's better to buy a new pair and get them adjusted. It takes 12 weeks and may double the cost of your shoes but the alternative is pain, meds and surgery. You need to power off phones and Bluetooth devices that give him headaches so we brought a notepad and a wired amplifier that substitute for hearing aids. It's worth the bother, believe me. read more

Very odd. The phone detectors are wild, but I was going to give them a chance. They told me my boot needed a full new zipper sewn in, but they don't usually "feel like" doing that. I asked what they could do and they flipped a cheapo zipper pull, and asked if they were (horse) riding boots (they are). I was then told they shouldn't have let me in the door with those boots because everyone has severe horse allergies. Okay?!?! The zipper pull broke the first wear, I promptly went to Woodinville Shoe on Bellevue Way and was treated with respect and was able to pay for phenomenal service on the boots. Family-owned business and excellent customer service! My concerns and questions about shoes were fully answered, and as someone who has metatarsalgia and bunions and other fun feet issues, it meant a lot that I walked out with comfortable walking shoes--literally! I had them throw away the ones I came in with. The gentleman helping me even ran across the street to their storage in pursuit of sandals that would also work for me--he was so accommodating! Turning off phones really isn't a big deal, and honestly, it was nice to unplug for the short visit I had in the store. The family and all staff were so welcoming and kind. As though mom and pop store fronts are not already an endangered species, this one puts some sort of pseudoscientific detector both at the front door and at the register along with sign telling you to turn off your smart phone and smart watch for "Your Health and Safety." When you don't, as I did not, the alarms continue to whine throughout the shop. Endangered species go extinct because they are too stupid to adapt, Chick's Shoes & Service seems to be an example of this very thing. Spend your money online or somewhere else. Mixed results but end result very good. I had some brushed shoes that became soiled and dirty, I took to Nordstrom's at Bellevue Square. They charged me $5 and just sprayed the shoes. Stains still remained, Since this store said they could make the shoes better, I gave Chick's a chance, Luke said 1-2 weeks and was kind of snippy saying we will call you. Don't call us. One customer laughed and appreciated the snootiness. I thought this is the wrong attitude and not customer service. No call. I checked at 2 weeks at two weeks, Luke said they are close to being done but he did not use the ticket number and I could see the two shoes were separated in the back room. I came today--three weeks and they ready, The older gentleman told me why it took so long but I had to call and come in to check, Chick's never notified that the shoes were ready but shoes looked the best they have ever looked except when they were new. read more

Customer service is peculiar at best, rude at worst. A simple shoe repair took way longer than it needed to and was way more expensive than it had to be. I felt very uncomfortable both at drop off and pick up - they were very unfriendly and obnoxious. Won't return. read more

I came to this store because somebody told me that they would put me in shoes that would make my feet comfortable for working long shifts on my feet. Customer service was mediocre, I'm guessing because I'm not rich, but I was desperate for comfortable shoes, so I stayed and believed what the salesperson was telling me and bought the shoes he recommended, and now my toes are covered in blisters. I highly recommend Chick's shoes! I have plantar faciitis so high quality shoes with good support are a must for me. On my first visit, I found a fantastic pair of Klogs, that provide such good support that I have noticed they are not only good for my feet, but my posture has improved as well! I didn't realize how worn out my previous shoes were until I tried walking in my Klogs and saw the difference in the amount of support they provide. I wish I would've found these years ago! I liked them so much I purchased 3 pairs in different colors. On my 2nd visit, I found some wonderful boots that also provide the support I need. Many neighbors recommended me Chick's Shoes & Service, so I decided to come to try. I was a bit worried about their quality of work, so I chose to let them repair my heels. Heel repair should be simple. I was friendly greeted as soon as I walked in the store. I explained that I need a heel repair, and the girl at the store told me that I would have to wait for two weeks as they were so busy. I agreed, but a bit shocked. I wasn't in hurry, so it was okay for me to wait. The price was reasonable, a few dollars cheaper than the store in Factoria Mall. If I were in hurry, I probably would rather pay a few dollars more to get done in an hour or two. Finally, I got my repaired heels back. The work was properly done. I am very satisfied. But if I need any repair immediately, I will go somewhere else. read more

Very disappointed to see a review from 3 days ago saying they are not masking up. I had the same experience 2 weeks ago and actually reported them on the DOH website. Given that probably 90% of their clientele is over 60, I find this shocking. And given the no cell phone rule in the store - even more so. I'm going to report them again. I went in for two repairs. One was easy... heel replacement. For the first one they went above and beyond. For $12 they replaced the heel and also shined my shoes and glued down some tearing on the leather. So impressed. For the 2nd repair, they were kind enough to tell me a free, easier way of getting what I wanted out of my shoe. Customer service at its finest! Turn around wasn't quick, but I wasn't in a rush. I was trying on shoes and looking in the mirror when the owner or customer associate asked me if I had a cell phone with me. Obviously, I said yes. Mind you, he was helping other customers at the time. He asked me to turn it off. First of all, why? I put my phone on silent after it went off a few times. Secondly, it's just plain rude and weird. I soon left. I didn't really feel like I was treated with respect and in his eyes I probably looked like a teenager or in my early 20's. You're better off going to Nordstrom. Well, I used to like this place until I called about my shoes and they couldn't give me any estimate 1.5-2.5 weeks to repair my shoes. "First come/First serve." Well, this we know for any drop off service, but to hear them tell it, it could be a month before I get my shoes. Desk person with whom I dropped off my shoes was pleasant and personable. Guys on the phone, a complete fail. Good home-training is probably needed for these dudes who seem to have no idea what customer service. I was called to come pick up my shoes, when I arrived I wasn't just given my shoes that I had paid upfront to have repaired, the girl at the front went to get the owner who told me I had "interrupted" his son from doing his work because I called to ask if my shoes were ready. A customer calls and it's considered an "interruption"??? Chick said his son "wasn't supposed to be answering the phone," and made it seem as if I, the customer, had done something wrong. Chick said to me, "Listen sweetheart." At this point I took a hold of my PAID FOR shoes to leave, yet he kept a firm grip and I had to pull them from his hands. I considered this harassment, not only in the language he spoke to me with, but he fact I had to PULL MY PAID FOR SHOES FROM HIS HANDS, in order to get myself out of there. I was so shaken by his anger, aggressive threatening behavior, and language, I couldn't get out of there fast enough and didn't check my shoes until I was safely in my car. THEY DIDN'T FINISH THE REPAIR. So not only was I given the run-around on when my shoes would be finished, I was harassed, and subjected to threatening behavior, inappropriate language, as well as incomplete work that I paid for UPFRONT and expected to be completed. My boots were polished and repaired in a timely manner and I've been happy to wear them again. Unlike prior reviewers, I felt very safe entering this establishment and Chick's policies regarding the public/health. This store was recommended by a current customer. The first time we went in, there was no one available to wait on us..there was no one in the store. Open for business, but not to conduct business. We left after over 10 minutes of waiting. We went back again today. This time two employees on the sales floor. One behind the counter and the other helping a customer. Neither employee looked up or acknowledged us. We once again walked around the store. After 15 minutes we approached the counter after looking at the shoes, said hello to the employee, he looked up, turned around and walked into the back room. I was looking for high quality shoe repair for very expensive handmade Italian men's shoes. They met my exacting requirements handily. The workmanship was excellent and the shoes were ready when promised (a week and a half- which is what I expected- I would have been suspicious of less). I needed to purchase a certain style of sneaker as recommended by my Podiatrist. In addition, the sneaker needed to be customized at the instructions of my podiatrist with extra material glued on the outside of the sneaker side next to the arches. So I'm thinking specified brand and model plus customized. I'm envisioning a Heel ready to Sock-it-to-me. I was envisioning the need for a second mortgage to pay for these.But these guys were far from that. I researched prices on Amazon. As I need an xtra, xtra wide to allow for orthoses, it was hard to find what I needed there. When I went to Chick's, they did not have the exact size I needed. But, they ordered it for me in two sizes so I could try them both on. They came in about a week, and the price was actually lower (by a buck) than Amazon. They called, I tried on the sneakers and it took another week to customize. When I came to pick them up, I discussed my orthoses. Due to a variety of reasons, I was using chewing gum, baling wire, and bungee cords to keep them shut. (Jest kidding....but it was six different lengths of velcro on each side....taking considerable time to fasten and unfasten.) And the velcro I've been able to find gets stuff stuck in it, curls up and I keep having to replace them. They came up with an ingenious way to use a wider velcro, but only about two inches of the hook side that gets fluff stuck in it. They had enough to make one of the 4 (for free), and referred me to a leather store to buy more. The store they referred me to sold me enough for multiple replacements for about $3. Of course I'd rather buy $15 sneakers, but they're good quality, and not more expensive than I could find anywhere else. The customization cost about $40 (I may be mistaken), and I thought that was reasonable. They were knowledgeable, understood my needs and went out of their way to give me good advice, show me a way to fix my orthoses, and even ordered two sizes of shoes to make sure that I had one that fit perfectly. Isn't this the way all businesses should run? And as a former business owner, I'm a tough critic. read more

After discovering Chick's shoes two years ago, I won't go anywhere else. Chris (the owner) is the person I depend on to find the right shoes for my feet. Five years ago I went to a podiatrist to be fitted for very expensive custom orthotics. Right about the time they needed to be replaced, I happened to visit Chick's for the first time. Chris encouraged me to allow him to customize the generic orthotics he sells in his store. He worked his magic and they turned out even better than my custom-made expensive one from the podiatrist. My feet have never been happier. The styles he carries are great and the prices are competitive with anything you'd find at good quality stores. Their running shoes are fantastic too. The only downside is that the other people working here don't begin to compare in terms of knowledge. If your feet bother you at all, then Chris is the person to work with. Even if you have to wait, it's worth it. He has a LOT of loyal customers. I really can't say enough good things about Chris. He's the real deal. read more

This was my second visit to Chick's shoe store. I have been battling plantar fasciitis and when my podiatrist recommended inserts and specialized shoes my comment was that I was too young for old ladies shoes, he suggested to try Chick's shoe on Mercer Island. I went with my mother who needes help with shoes for her Caribean cruise that are light enough but still take inserts. Chris was amazing with her and didnt let her spend money on shoes that she was ready to buy but would not he best for her condition. I walked away with my most confortable work shoes of Ziera brand i was not familiar before. They are perfect for my job as a pharmacist, on my feet a lot and yet i get compliments on them all the time. This time and went back for new running shoes and boots and worked with Chris's daughter Anna. She was spot on on picking brands that felt comfortable on my feet. It was Friday morning and store was busy with returning customers. It is family owned business and it shows. They definitley know their shoes. A friend of mine was wearing cute but comfy shoes she had purchased at Chick's, so I headed to Mercer Island to check them out. Those of us with wide feet know that most shoe stores lack anything that is both stylish and comfortable. They had some sale shoes outside the store, on tables, but the sizes were mostly very large or very small. I'm always happy to save some money, but I didn't find anything in my size. Inside, the store is nicely arranged and has a good selection of styles from a variety of manufacturers. Salespeople were friendly, and somewhat helpful. Of course the cutest shoes were not the ones that fit the best. Story of my life. But I've visited a few times by now, and I nearly always find something I can live with. Prices are high--these are mostly imported shoes (supposedly not from China--but who really knows?) with "European styling." Bottom line: if you are hard to fit and don't mind spending a small fortune, head over to Chick's and see if you can make your feet happy. read more

This is the only place to go. I live in Bellevue and have choices in town. But it's worth the trip to Mercer Island to go to Chick's Shoes and Service. They did a great job on my shoe repair -- much better service than I have received at other shoe repair places. In addition, the price was more than reasonable (less than $10). Also, I like MBT shoes quite a bit. And to my surprise, they have quite a few MBTs in the store. And some available at discount. This is the place to go! read more

Today I went back to Chick's for an individual shoe fitting appointment with Chris. He was very helpful in finding shoes to help relieve the pain I was having. He also modified the shoes I wore in, and another pair I had in the car, so both work better for my feet. And, I brought another three pairs back from home, and he modified those, also. He didn't charge anything for these minor modifications on five pairs of my shoes. Because of the modifications, I didn't need to replace any of my current shoes. I did need sandals, and found that they stock a brand that has the very high arches that I need. I got both sandals and slippers in that line. And, he said that if there is any problem, he can modify them as well. I also learned that my problem was NOT a result of uneven wear, as I'd been previously told by a podiatrist. So, he refunded my money and returned the shoes I'd brought in to be re-heeled. Instead, he modified them by adding the support that I need (and didn't charge me for that). I am impressed with the level of service I received and the store's ability to modify shoes to suit my feet. Thank you, Chick's!! read more
