The famous Chico's, finally I've tasted the cuisine of the native El Pasoian. I've got to tell you I like Chico's the crunchy rolled tacos filled with seasoned ground beef and served 3 to an order bathed in what I call soup topped with shredded Velvita is pretty good for hole in the wall. The only disappointment of the trip to this location is that I was not greet with a smile nor did the order taker care that it was my first visit. That being said this place reminded me of some places in Los Angeles because they have a large security guard post near the register. Chico's is cash only so I had walk past their ATM and find BofA down the street so I could avoid exorbitant ATM fees. Other than the little disappointment I look forward to bring my wife to try Chico's tacos. read more

I rarely go to chicos but my sister in law was craving so we decided to call and get an order to pick up. The phone was busy. We called like 10 times before actually driving over there. We get there and there's all these male workers just standing there looking at us like if we're stupid or something. We order our food and I give the cashier a $20 that I had just gotten from my banks ATM and a little piece of the corner was missing so he tells me he can't accept that?! I'm like really?! I ask to speak with the manager and he tells me he is the manager. Asked for his name and it's Johnny Rosales. NEVER going to that location ever again!!!! It was my first time and LAST. Different! But delicious!!! My honey is from el paso and kept talking about this place so we tried it last time visiting the fams. Nothing like what I have had in cali before. Rolled tacos swimming in delicious salsa. I guess the way to eat the fries is to put em in the salsa as you take out a taco so they soak up sauce, then eat the deliciously soaked fries and dunk more fries in when you take out the next taco. Good, basic food, for cheap. The green sauce here is killer though - a little bit goes a long, long way. Next time, would ask that the sauce the tacos are served in be on the side... Too messy. If you ask for extra cheese, they give you a ridiculous amount of it in it's own boat, so no extra cheese. Fries are good, too. Dip them in the taco sauce. read more

Been away from el paso for 15 years. Cameback from Vegas and most family said that chicos has changed their cheese and they are no good now. I decided to give it a try. To be honest tacos taste the same or better their fries were little burned. But chicos is not the same. Never got greeted, employees not smiling, their attitude make me feel like I was bothering them. No courtesy during transaction or when picking up oeder. Didnt hear a thank you once. My family and I have been coming here for years but we experienced the worst customer service since we have been going there. We came to celebrate my fathers birthday and waited over an hour so my dad went to see what was happening and they told him they lost our order so my dad asked for his money back and the cashier I'm assuming had an attitude and told him it's something about "income tax" which has nothing to do with the problem and also tells my dad "how about you eat at McDonald's it's nice and empty over there" and at first didn't want to give over $40 back. We went yesterday and ordered a few doubles and french fries and were extremely disappointed in how much they are skimping on the cheese and fries! What happened!? Chicos prices are high and now they're skimping. I only eat here a few times a year anyway but my fries were in a small container unlike before they were filled up in the taco container. This is an El Paso tradition. Went for lunch with my dad because I had a craving. Worst mistake ever! They make the taquitos and let them sit all day to get hard and greeeezzyy. The lady in front of me said she wanted them fresh in Spanish . We thought she was being bitchy. No she was telling them she didn't want the old shit lying around. I used to love Chicos but the past 3 times I've came have disappointed. Restrooms are always filthy, no paper towels or soap, lobby was a mess. The food has been on a downward spiral, they hardly put any cheese on the tacos like they used to and the taste had changed. El Paso made them great, the least they can do is give back to the people by having accommodations that are expected in our times like credit cards and clean stocked restrooms. I am from El Paso and there is not a day that I dont wish I was in El Paso eating those Chicos tacos. I was there in 2010 and I did go to the one on Dyer. I now live in Houston; there is no original tacos like Chicos authentic flavor, melting cheese, good chili salsa and tomato sauce. I can taste them now. Born, raised and live in Cali. I have family in El Paso and since I was a small boy this has always been a tradition, when visiting El Paso this is always our first stop. My order of choice is 2 doubles and a large soda. These are by far some of the most delicious tacos I've ever tasted. Now truthfully they are your basic tacos what makes them unique and delicious is the cheese and sauce combination something about them just work and you have these irresistible flavor. After moving to San Antonio from El Paso, I missed Chico's so much that my mother had to fill a suitcase with frozen orders from the McRae location every time she came to visit. The frozen tacos are satisfactory, but I am always eager to eat in the restarant every chance I get, because reheated Chico's isn't the same. Of course, when I came to EP for the week, Chico's was my first stop... but unfortunately, the Chico's I knew and loved has changed a lot, and in my opinion, not in a good way. The McRae location is permanently closed, so I had to go to Montwood, and I was not happy. The cheese and sauce are different, which to me, changes the entire experience. The food itself wasn't bad per se, but it certainly wasn't what I remembered. I won't be planning to eat there again on my next visit, and i wont be asking my mom for any more frozen orders. I'm pretty heartbroken that the meal I knew and loved for so many years is no longer available. :( read more

First and foremost, everyone working there looks as if they are being held against their will and very full of bad attitude. Chico's used to be awesome, now it's just awful. Everything has gone to crap except for the green salsa which is the only thing that is good. The tacos lack meat, the sauce is very watered down and the cheese just plain sucks. The owner tried to tell the news that they were going back to the old style cheese, if they went back to the old style it would be shredded very thin with a huge stack on top. I asked the lady at the register to make sure the tacos had sufficient cheese and she told extra cheese would be extra charge, rude! Honestly if it was good I wouldn't care about the cost. The sauce needs to go back to being old tomato boiled, yes old tomato. They used to use old tomato and that's what made the sauce thick. The tacos have no meat anymore, just a pinch of meat. I remember when the tacos fell apart because of all the meat in them and now it's almost as is they are made with dry beef jerky. The round hotdogs used to be made with the big buns like hamburger inn uses and the winnie was falling out of it because there was so much. The fries and green salsa are the only thing that still taste great. The only reason I go back to Chico's is when people visit from out of town and after that they agree with me that Chico's sucks. I was visiting from Chicago. I went here because I heard this was a popular place and because I thought they sold tacos. This is just a crappy hamburger/hot dog joint. The "tacos" are really (only beef) flautas, and they are not very good ones. The cheese is really cheap and nasty. My husband and I grew up in El Paso and the Chico's tacos were always so tasty and filling. We live away now but when in town will usually get 6-8 orders to go. But... the last three times we've become less and less enchanted with them. Very watered down sauce, tiny little tacos, and not enough sauce to even cover the tacos. The cheese was awful and tasteless. Looks like the only good thing left is the green sauce which they shorted us on too so we probably won't be going back again. The thrill is gone! read more

There are a few things I will miss when my family and I move to Australia. One is Chico's Tacos. The Mountwood Dr. location is my families preferred location. Nice staff, clean and great location. The food is the same in every location.....perfection in every bite! I don't understand people who disagree with that. I feel sorrow for they must lack developed taste buds. One thing that will make the 14 hour flight back to the El Paso area is the thought of dropping by Chico's after the airport.
