This place used to be really good but it seems that their quality has significantly dropped. I don't know if they change their ingredients or if the way they make their tacos is different but the taco seem to be harder and the sauce doesn't seem to have as much flavor. Been hearing people trash talk one of our El Paso trademarks, so we had to go see for ourselves. Chicos is still delicious! That place hasn't changed with the exception to an improved taco tray. I think it great that is has kept it's authenticity after so many years. Jukebox and video games are a great idea but could also use an upgrade. read more

Every time I'm in El Paso I eat at Chicos Tacos. I love these little soupy tacitos. They are so bad they're good. I'm a foody with a pretty refined pallet. This is not gourmet obviously but it's just good. Don't try to figure it out just eat it and be happy. This location is large, open clean and fast. I'd recommend it. read more

I had to try it and after all was said and done...it aint that bad. its a local staple for hangovers and "triple dog dares" but for me, i could eat it again or wouldnt be bothered if my mouth never came across those tacos. I love traditional, old school places, and Chico's Tacos is one of those. Still, I had heard many stories of the disgusting, runny and watery tomato sauce and the greasy food, so I had resisted trying it for two and a half years. Finally, I decided to try it. It's got a great old-school feel inside and I like that. An old fashioned menu is on the wall, and they have an old fashioned jukebox. I like that. The food? Yikes, that's another thing altogether. I had the standard three-taco order of Chico's Tacos. The tacos themselves had no flavor, and were drowned in the infamous runny, watery tomato sauce which was -- tasteless. The sauce was as disgusting as I had been led to believe. Nothing had flavor, not even the iced tea. Here's the best part, and I hesitate to reveal this, but it's part of the experience: the next day, I had an extremely urgent trip to the restroom and Chico's Tacos visited me again! It was a real "colon blow" moment. Sorry to be so graphic but that was the way it was. On the positive side, the place was packed, so apparently many people enjoy the "food." You either love it or hate it. No in between. I grew up in El Paso eating this as a kid and it is a must visit every time I come back to EP. It was better back in the 90s but it still hits the spot. Crunchy ground beef flautas in a red soupy salsa with tons of melted cheese. YYUUMMM! Super cheap as well. They also have good crinkly fries and some old school arcade games. Chicos used to be a solid 5 stars for me, but every few times I go, it keeps losing a star at a time. The amazing taste it used to have is now a "blah" taste. These past 3 times I've gone, the sauce is way too salty. The cheeseburgers are not the same either. And even the actual tacos are changing as well. I'm disappointed lately... Awesome... I was here on business and was told to try them out. They were very friendly. They told me that I should get a double order if i was hungry. I did, they were right. An El Paso icon for over 50 years and I can see why! Thier Tacos (rolled up) are awesome and that sauce that they're submerged in? MMMMMMMMM!! But my biggest surprise was thier Hot Dogs. Served "Old School" style (sliced in half and served on a hamburger bun, but the biggest surprise was the"Frijoles de Olla" (Stewed Beans) that were served in the hot dog! After hearing all of the hype about this place my wife and I decided to give it a shot last night. When we pulled up the place was packed and this is usually a sign that the food is great. However, after receiving our "tacos" we were like what in the hell is this? These looked like the things you can by at Wal-Mart and cook in the oven. I think there called flautas? Anyway these "tacos" drenched in some type of sauce and covered in cheese. No real flavor, just a tasteless mess. You would be better off finding the nearest taco truck on the side of the road or even the infamous Taco Bell. Was disappointed with this location because the sauce was cold and didn't melt the cheese on the tacos! Major difference between this one and the one on Dyer which is the one I usually go to when I'm at Ft. Bliss on business. I hope they figure out that no tacos should be served without melted cheese. I don't understand why they don't take credit cards when they have many locations. But yet they have an ATM right next to the register so they can over charge us on the withdrawals. I don't think it's fair that they have this many locations in El Paso with this many customers and they can't absorb the cost of the credit card usage. The food is ok its not all that. read more

Yeap, 3rd time is the NOT charm. I lived in El Paso for 11 years, ELEVEN and I just went to visit. This was my third time and they are as bad or even worse than I remembered. The only reason why we went is because I played a joke on 2 friends from out of town...yeah, they also hated them. I grew up in Mexico City and this "food" does NOT taste like anything I've tasted before, and I don't say this on a positive way. 1) tacos are not supposed to float; 2) the industrial/government cheese they use tastes like anything else but cheese and 3) the "secret" sauce they bathe their tacos with doesn't even taste like tomato. In summary, 4 out of 5 El Pasoans love this place because it is a tradition, it is what their grandparents and parents liked but it is NOT good food. My theory is that it became so successful because it was one of the few places that were open after 2am when clubs closed, drunk + hungry = you can eat your own hair and it tastes like heaven. My husband and I tried it this weekend and it was so nasty! When we first went in seem like a big mistake already. Cash only?? You can see the kitchen from where you order and it looked so filthy. The giant pots dripping of idk its looked nasty already, but we were there already so why not give it a try. The menu was so small. The name being chicos tacos I expected endless options of meats for tacos and like legit Mexican tacos. We ordered the only type of "tacos" they had. When my husband brought our tray and was like what is that??? Three ground beef flautas swimming in a pond of watery tomato and some plastic looking cheese on top. The order of fries were not crunchy they were rock hard and cold which means they were sitting somewhere back there for awhile. If you're visiting El Paso for some reason and someone tells you to try this place, they are not your friend. I think El Pasoans love this place so much because terribleness is all El Pasoans know. The food is garbage. You could go to Costco or Sam's, get a box of taquitos, a can of tomato sauce, garlic, oregano, and a bag of cheese, and make a sadness pile that tastes far better than what you would get here. The staff are rude, they make no attempt at being polite or courteous. They do not accept debit cards, but they conveniently have ATMs with a hefty transaction fee, a nice way to make extra money off people with horrible taste in food. And finally, there's the dining area. It is filthy, very very filthy, did I mention it is filthy? Because it is gross and filthy. I think it's a combination of El Pasoans generally not giving a fuck about the appearance of the place, and the staff not being too enthusiastic about their jobs. The place is always packed, and I'm sure some of the tables accumulate trash from multiple groups of diners. So in closing, the food is nasty and the staff/regulars don't want you there (especially gringos). I don't have any other local places to suggest because they're all garbage in their own unique way. Best to avoid El Paso completely. read more
