Let me start off by saying I, the male half of Ambrosia, am not an El Paso native. Having said that, it has taken my awhile to figure out the whole "Chico's Tacos" phenomenon, and I may still not completely get it. Although I still can't comprehend the love affair for the rolled tacos, I have found what I enjoy there, and it is not on the menu. The few times I have gone to Chico's Tacos I usually order the hamburger. I can honestly say I enjoy the burgers there. Why I enjoy them is a whole other matter. It happened by chance that after I had ordered my burger and fries I walked past a tray that was waiting to be picked up. There it sat, the grilled cheese sandwich, and inside, a hamburger meat patty. I could not resist. I went back and order the grilled cheese with a meat patty inside. After finishing this "patty melt" concoction, it still needs some tweaking on my part. I can at least take comfort in knowing that when the girlfriend's Chico's radar goes off, I can have my custom order made without question. I will be adding extra cheese and some fries to the mix next time. I can also say, at least at this location, that the service was friendly and fast. An El Paso tradition that is always consistent and good. That said, you probably shouldn't eat here too much as you always feel pretty crappy afterwards, but it's good while its going down. Two stars docked because they don't take credit cards and they won't open a Westside loaction. Seriously Chicos? It's 2010, take credit cards. The only thing my friends and I have come up with to explain the lack of credit card usage is that they are A) laundering money for the cartels and B) hugely under-reporting their income to the IRS. my husband and i came here after hearing this place was great. We came once but it was way too packed. We were super excited to come, but we could not get out of here fast enough once we did. Chicos Tacos brings me back to my childhood when I lived in El Paso. Mom would bring a huge tray almost every evening after work. I haven't been to El Paso in 22 years so it's always great to come back to what you remember. Now it's rolled tacos in a runny tomato sauce with clumps of cheese plus you have to order a side of fries. Nothing special but yet it's part of El Paso's history. As I tell my friends, you either love it or hate it and for me it brings me back to what I remember. To me, it still tastes the same. It is definitely something you need to try for yourself when in El Paso. This location is the nicest so far that I have ever been to. The only con is that every location is cash only. Forme and my family the rolled up beef taquitos drenched in the red sauce with extra cheese is a must and always a double!!! The best part is when the Taquitos get soggy! Chico's is definitely an El Paso tradition. People do seem to claim that certain locations are better than others, but I don't taste a difference. The difference is all visual. This location is, by far, the cleanest I've seen. It's also one of the roomier ones, as well, but it's still difficult to find an empty table because it's always packed. I haven't ever had any problems with Chico's. I respect the fact they take cash only--I'd do it, too, if I had a local business. Very bad experience at this location on George Dieter. Two of the employees (those who pack the food) were very disrespectful! Both were males. We understand that the ketchup, straws, napkins etc are no longer where the customers can take as needed like before the Corona Virus. But they also make it impossible for the customers. We kept asking them politely if we could have ketchup, napkins, & straws for our drinks but they'd ignore us. They also gave us the wrong order, and when we brought it to their attention they both became very angry. Showing lots of aggression. We will no longer return to that location until something is done about those two employees. We can't describe them bcs they were wearing masks but it was yesterday around 9pm. Being my parents are from El Paso, TX I have frequented Chicos numerous times and attempt to stop by atleast once per visit. By no means does Chicos provide the best Mexican food in El Paso, but they provide a unique spin on tacos at dirt cheap prices. If you are looking for gourmet tacos, look somewhere else. If you're an El Pasoen, then you're well aware of Chico's Tacos. How can you not be? You'll have two sets of friends. Those who love Chico's Tacos, and those who hate Chico's. That's perfectly fine. It's the world we live in. What I found odd was the people that love Chico's from only specific location. "The Chico's on Dyer is the shit, fuck that Mcrae one. " I always thought they all tasted the same. I figured if anything, maybe there was a difference in service or maybe arcademachines/jukebox music. Maybe it's seating. Certainly the food is the one thing that remains as the constant staple of the multi Chico's experience. Then for the first time, I went to the Chico's on George Dieter. The location alone gives it away. It still has that look of new. I'd say it's almost too sterile looking. Somehow, the slightly filthy look of chico's was welcoming reminder of home. Chico's will never turn it's nose up at me and my disgusting "hoboesque" lifestyle. However, if you're trying to introduce a girl into the Chico's scene, this would probably be the most enticing way, since they tend to be more in sanitation...go figure, right guys? Overall, it has a similar feel though. A modern feel. This is what the Chico's of 2010 should look like, and it does. Also once in a while there's a guy selling bootleg dvds. Looked like a good deal. Finally, the point of this whole review, the food. It tasted different. Waaay different. I couldn't pinpoint what it was. Was it bad? No, actually, it was still very delicious, but there was something in either the sauce or maybe it was a different kind of governement style cheese. I couldn't wrap my brain around it. Part of me felt betrayed, and part of me sort of liked the new flavor. Sort of like when the ranch flavored dorito first came out. Overall, I give this place a 4. With Chicos there is only 5 stars or 1 star. This place seems like a really cheap knock off of the real Chicos Tacos. Food was cold actually and the tacos were already soggy when i got them.
