But the reason for the 3 stars is because there were many problems with my last order which happened to be delivery. The rice bowl was basically like a poke bowl (if you had that) but without the fish and addition of other things like beans and kimchi to name a few. Parking is very scarce so I can imagine it being a hassle during dinner time or weekends. You walk in, order, and pay immediately. Just like parking, seating is limited as well. I ordered the classic kimchi fries with beef ribeye (beef is +$1). Was disappointed that it no longer comes with a fried egg. If you're not a big fan of spicy mayo I would ask for it on the side because it comes with a lot. There's a good amount of bulgogi meat and the fries had a perfect crisp. I love the food, and the newer set up off Riverside works better because they make your order on a line immediately. However, I just spent $14 and waited 20 minutes for food at the South Lamar location only to get home and realize that all the toppings were the complete opposite of my order, except for the paid extras. The receipt matches my order, but my bowl is full of ingredients that make me ill, and I"m too tired to drive all the way back over for a re-do. Fine establishment. I am not sure how either Korean or barbecue it is - but the food is good. If the food is good - it can be Lichtensteinian. They do marinated beef, pork, chicken (spicy or teriyaki) and tofu - which you can get on french fries, in a burger, in a burrito, in a salad, or in a rice bowl. (This is the Green Eggs and Ham logic. "Would you like them on some rice? Would you like them in some fries?") * All versions come elaborately garnished with lots of other flavor ingredients. The trick of super-elaborate sandwiches/ricebowls/frenchfries etc. is that each of the individual ingredients has to be good. If each of the individual ingredients are good, then the flavor changes as you eat your way around the dish, and you are in for a treat. If the individual ingredients are mediocre, the whole melange melds into a bland mush that looks complicated but tastes plain. * Chi'Lantro passes the individual ingredients test with flying colors. I did a teriyaki chicken burger with their run of multiple ingredients on top plus kimchi. (My addition. If it is a Korean place you gotta try the kimchee.) The soy chicken was suave and chickeny - made with a light soy sauce that made things subtly rich. The fried egg, onions and magic sauce were all worthwhile. (Don't ask me what is in the magic sauce. They ain't tellin' and I ain't guessin'.) The kimchee was very very mild - almost at the level of the mild sauerkraut served at Hat Creek Burger. But it was fine for what it was, and its mildness meant it did not crowd out the other flavors on the sandwich. Altogether superior eating. Black beans on the side were good for what they were. * Overall, this is a superior lunch-y sort of place. Managements keeps the basic ingredients to pick from limited - but by doing so - they make sure that everything they serve is at the top of the game. And if you absolutely gotta go for variety they have Korean chicken wings in three different flavors. I haven't had the wings, but I kill for chicken wings done right. I heard about these kimchi fries, I had to give them a try. They were good but I've had similar concepts for excited just a hair better. I don't know if it's because of the customization style of the menu but the flavors just didn't blend well. I had different sections of flavor that just wasn't mixed. On the other hand the chips and corn were awesome. It was simple and delicious. The main entree was ribeye beef rice bowl. This was great. The fried egg was an essential touch. It was the perfect amount of gooey in the center that allowed me to mix it with the rice, which I love doing. I've tried the rice bowl, noodle bowl, and kimchi fries with beef. None were impressive. For the bowls, there's definitely good value in terms of portions, but there is no coherence of flavor in the meal. The hodgepodge of cold veggies on top of rice carries no intent other than variety and quantity, and the chicken/sauce is unable to bring it together. For the fries, it's the opposite; they're heavy and flavorful as expected, but not necessarily worth the price. Chi'Lantro is worth trying at least once, but it's unlikely that I'll return. read more

The staff is very efficient and fun to talk to while you're waiting. They create a comfortable and chill environment, which I love. We didn't even notice but, we were given the wrong queso - and even though we had already finished half, an employee informed us and gave us a whole new order of the correct queso; that's another thing I appreciate because I know there are a lot of places that would take that initiative. I ordered the sweet potato bowl with corn and black beans with sesame vinaigrette and it was so flavorful I could not put my fork down. I don't like sweet potatoes but you could not taste them in the noodles. Next time I would probably skip the beans and corn because they were cold.
