The young lady who took our order was friendly and ready to go. We sat on the picnic bench out front on a nice perfect temp day. This remote little gem is on the way to Frenchman Lake in Chilcoot. They don't open until 11am, parking is in the gravel lot surrounding the building, there are picnic tables with shade on the side of the building and there is a disabled parking space available. You order your food at the window and its packaged for you to either eat at their picnic tables or take it to go. The order taker was very nice, and they did accommodate changing out fries that came with the meal to onion rings. Order is cooked fresh as its taken, service is good, took about 20 mins to get my freshly made burger. And it was delicious! I'm always concerned about how a burger is cooked and cut it in half to check the middle and it was cooked perfect to my liking and the onion rings were thick and crunchy. So good too! The meal came with a fountain drink which I chose a Coke and it was cold and refreshing. Then we got soft serve cones also great on a hot day. I've been to this cute little venue a couple times over the past few years. Customer service has always been efficient and courteous. And the ice cream: DELICIOUS. This review will be based on my most recent visit, 7/8/2023. The business is located on a gravel lot, and this most recent visit was after a motorcycle ride. Personally I'm not super comfortable riding on gravel so I parked across the street and walked across the turn off. It wasn't super busy on a Saturday around 12pm or 1pm. As my friend nor I ordered actual food that needed cooking, our ice cream came out mere moments after we ordered. There is a side "patio" with tables and places to sit. It was busy with people waiting and eating, so we went back to our bikes and ate our ice cream on the bike. Overall and per usual, a great overall experience and delicious ice cream. read more

Frosty is a must stop. Our kids always look forward to it. Shakes are made with fresh fruit. I tried the blackberry shake. Wish there was more berry flavor as the vanilla shake flavor was overwhelming but I got lots of berry seeds in my sips. The woman who took my order was very pleasant. Love the holly hocks on the side picnic area. Every time we stop here in summer it is mega hot. That parking lot generates a lot of heat. Hence an ice cream or shake is worth it. The building and grounds never seem to be improved. It's falling apart and in need of work but I guess that's its charm. The large soft serve ice cream is really what I would consider a small and it's not cheap at $5. After a morning hike a short distance away, I was headed back to the highway and saw a flowing beacon of sugar and refreshment. I pulled over, hoped out in my dusty hiking boots and made my way to the window. There were a few people waiting round for orders to be made but nobody in line to order. I was greeted by a very sweet woman who not only took my order but took an extra second to ask how my day was going. Customer service is an art and it only takes a minute to ask an extra question but it goes a very long way regarding the experience. I asked for her vote because I was torn between coffee and peach milkshakes. She said peach is seasonal and freshly picked and processed that morning so I should get that. I went ahead and ordered a medium and boy am I glad. I was torn between medium and large but the medium was plenty. The freshness of the peaches was apparent on the first sip. Tasted like the homemade fruit milkshakes my mom made after harvesting fruit from our backyard trees. I did not stay and dine there but they had ample seating, most of it shaded by an overhead fabric sail. I throughly enjoyed sipping on my milkshake during my ride home and made my hiking mates jealous when I asked if they had stopped on their way home. They jokingly replied they should have traveled home in my car because that milkshake was tempting! Do yourself a favor and stop in for a treat on a hot day! Ever since I can remember this has been a stop for us before and after Frenchman's Lake. I remember going excited to go camping or fishing with my parents if it involved Frenchman's Lake because I knew this was going to be one of our stops. If you go during the summer the busy summer season expect to wait a little bit for your food since they do get pretty busy. The outdoor dining area is nice to sit at and enjoy your meal. My go to is the cheeseburger, curly fries and a chocolate shake. So simple but yet so good. There's something about a plain cheeseburger with no added frills that just reminds me of summer and good times. We are locals and frequent Goodwins weekly. The staff is always so friendly and my family loves the fresh food and organic veggies they offer. We heard the owners bought the Chilcoot Frosty and we were SO excited to have something to eat out here!! I called to place an order for my family at 4:00 today (Sunday May 31) the woman answered the phone extremely rude "frosty" I politely and excitedly ask to please place an order for pickup (the time it takes doesn't matter, we aren't picky) I have never been treated so terribly. She rudely said no, I can't do that, we have a huge line." I was so shocked and taken back I couldn't respond. I just said "oh, okay" she said "call back in 30 minutes we might be able to take it then...." click. I was so stunned. This is a must stop shop when ever you pass it! It's located near Frenchmans Lake and has the best burger that keeps me coming back. My wife and I will split a curly fry cause their portions are generous. And you can't go to a Frosty spot and not get a frosty! They're delicious. I will say the last time I went the frosty was a little runny but that's not usually the case. BEWARE OF THEIR HOURS! We had decided to take a small road trip to Frenchman recreation area and knew from a friend of ours that the Chilcoot frosty was right on the way. We arrived shortly after 11am and walked up to the window and explored the menu. We each decided to have a Deluxe Burger, they also have a double burger. We also decided to share a small curly fry and we each had a diet coke. We had a seat outside at the picnic tables and our order was called shortly after. The small order of curly fries was huge, easily shareable! Everything tasted very good. We were only disappointed that we did not have enough room in our bellies for ice cream or a shake! The local frosties have always been such a great place to get burgers and shakes, and this one does not disappoint. The staff is incredibly friendly and the burgers were delicious. We ordered 2 Deluxe burgers which cheese and one with bacon. They were great with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The patties had crispy bits like a smash burger. We also ordered curly fries which were like the size of 3 regular servings, super crispy onion rings, and two shakes (vanilla and butterscotch.) Everything was awesome and the little side patio was great it was a nice temperature despite being 90 degrees. Definitely a place to try. We will definitely be back on a Wednesday for Indian Tacos! If you are in the area stop by, they really need the the business. The Beckwourth Complex fire has decimated the campgrounds were most of their business comes from. June was the beautiful human that served us. We had the deluxe burger, the patty is single and could use another on there but it was juicy and they didn't scimp out on servings. These soft ice cream and burger stands do seem to pop up all over Northern CA in rural areas and towns from Red Bluff to Portola and here in little Chilcoot. This little, only open in the summer burger and cone shack is located on Highway 70 at the intersection that goes to Frenchman Lake. Really not much else at this intersection except for a gas station. We stopped in here on our way to Sierraville up the road. I heard this shack had good burgers and cones. I'm not really into those soft serve cones, but I do like a good burger with some fries. Pulling up, there's a few people in line. I see there's an outdoor dining area with tables off to the right side with some shade provided. If it's a hot day, or raining or cold, beware, there is NO indoor place to eat. The menu is posted on a sheet of paper taped to the window or inside when you make you way up to the order window. Prices are somewhat above average for these burger shacks, but I hope it's worth it here and ya gotta figure, they don't open all year and you're out in the middle of nowhere and they gotta make a livin, so it is what it is. We had 2 Double Bacon Cheeseburgers ($9.00ea). The burger doesn't include fries, so we had 2 reg. orders of fries ($3.50ea) and 2 sodas for ($2.00ea). It was $31.00 for burger and fries for 2 with drinks. You wait for your food on the side of the building at your table and they'll just yell out your name when it's ready. The food comes bagged and burgers in styro clamshells. We pull out the fries and rip open the bag to put the food on. Wow, there's a TON of fries for the reg sized order! I guess that makes it worth $3.50 per order. The burger was stacked high. It's not a big jumbo sized burger, just normal sized across. Warning on the meat patties here: They're pretty thin at less than a 1/4 lb ... I asked. So, if you like a more meaty taste, get the double burger! The burger taste was very good, a nice balance with the lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and cheese with the meat. This is more of a total ingredients experience rather than a meat centric experience like some places. The fries were hot and crispy shoestring type. We were both satisfied with our lunch and neither of us finishes all of our fries. I'd come back again, I just recommend getting 1 order of fries per two people and go for the double meat option! Don't be in too much of a rush here, they're on country people time out here ... so just relax. They do take credit cards here now. read more
