It was 95 degrees in Reno today so an ice cream sounded good. As I entered it was nicely cool with a/c. And there was a long line as others also craved ice cream on this hot August day. The cashier was friendly. I craved chocolate chip but they didn't have the flavor. The cashier suggested a vanilla scoop with sprinkled chocolate chips on top. That sounded perfect. I ordered a small waffle cone and it was reasonably priced. After ordering I received the ice cream in less than 10 minutes. What a great find! After an early dinner, three friends wandered to Handel's for a sweet treat. For $24 with tip, we each got ice cream cones packed with delicious ice cream. The service here is pretty fast. As soon as we ordered, our ice creams were assembled in the back and brought to us. I opted for the dark-chocolate-raspberry with vanilla on a peanut-dark-chocolate cone. It was delicious but too much to finish after a big meal. One of my friends had the dairy-free coffee ice cream and said it wasn't very flavorful. His wife tasted it and agreed. We originally planned to eat outside because it is very noisy inside between the hard floors, music, and kids, but it was raining a little and too hot, so we went back inside to wait out the rain. There was plenty of seating but it was REALLY hard to hear anything anyone was saying because of the noise level. Great spot, excellent speedy service. Don't forget napkins, though! Checked this place out the other day. It was gorgeous. Bright inside with some seating. Menu above the order counter and on wall. There's also a walk up window. The staff are very friendly. I ordered a dairy free option and it was absolutely delicious. Actually I have stopped by several times and then a friend came to town to say this was the best ice cream he has ever had. For me the ice cream was very good. Though we have excellent ice cream in Reno. The line was long, seemed to move fairly swift. The wait though was longer than expected. There were delays and others behind us did get their orders before us. This confused me. I think if they fixed their receiving process that would help the enormous line. I ordered the praline pecan and it was very good but not as good as my tried and true Baskin Robbins. We had a total of 4 cones. I spend way too much money here. My freezer typically has 2-3 quarts in it at all times. My favorite is the Buckeye, though lately there's been way too much chocolate syrup in it. I'm talking pools of it where that's the only thing on my spoon. Unfortunately that overpowers the ah-mazing peanut butter ice cream. The Menu board is quite hard to read for kids and that should change or have an additional paper menu that they can hold and read. After we sat to eat they realized there were some awesome flavors to try if they could have read it all since the girl at the counter was waiting and a line was forming. I really suggest making the selection process easier for kids. The place seemed clean and light. So we were happy with the windows and the brightness (except the sun was shining on the menu board). My husbands family used to own a homemade ice cream shop in California when he was a kids and he learned as a teen to make all kinds of flavors and how good ice cream is made. Rich solid ice cream is made with cream and it does not melt as fast. The ice cream we were served here had more of a milk texture, thin and not heavy at all. While the taste was good, it lacked the solids to make it filling. I can compare this ice cream to store brand as opposed to Tillimook or Hagen Daz.
