A couple of months ago, December 2023, I was told by a family friend and Staff from Early…read moreIntervention about the Nery Daycare Center on Benefit Street. Both individuals had positive things to say about the center so I called. The first time I called, no one answered. I called a second number and Nery answered. Nery informed me that she would have a slot available in January 2024. It was exciting to hear because everywhere else had a waitlist or just told me to call back in a few months. Nery informed me that the slot was not full time, part time and from Wednesday thru Friday. I scheduled the tour and my husband went on Dec 22, 2023. He did not meet with Nery, rather met with Ms. Emmy (I think). I did not hear from no one about next steps or anything for that matter. I reached out to Nery on 12/27 asking about how to move forward with the slot. Remember, she told me a slot was available in Jan. Given there were a few days left to the year, I wanted to know what else was needed so I don't miss the January slot. On 12/27, Nery informed me that we would have to schedule a time to come in and finish the paperwork aspect. She informed me the application fee was 70.00 and the deposit is $250. I provided her with my name, my son, our address and my husband's name so she can create the invoice. As of 1/3, I never received the invoice, we never did an application and January has started. Now, I am thinking I lost the slot and went back to square one. I reached out to Nery, with no response. On 01/09, I noticed my account was charged for a total of $335.00. I was charged $265 for a deposit and $70.00 for application fee. I was originally told the deposit is $250.00 On 01/16, I reached out to Nery again, asking if the slot was still available, no response. Here we are, with no response from Nery for two weeks, my account was charged, we were never told of a start date and I was not sure what to do. On 01/17, Nery texted me asking me if I wanted to schedule a tour. I did not need a tour. The tour was done. I needed a start date. I needed to understand why I was charged before signing any application, before Nery showed us any paperwork and before my son even set foot through her doors. I responded to Nery letting her know what I needed which was not a tour On 01/18, I received a text from her, apologizing for the confusion and asking me when I want my son to start and to come in the following day at 10:30am to finish the paperwork. On 01/19 my husband went to complete an application. That is all we did. He did not provide her with any other information but filled out a questionnaire. My husband told me Nery was going to call me about next steps and guess what she never did. On 01/31, Nery and I spoke because I was not able to navigate the Brightwheel application to upload the documents she needed to go along with the application. Nery said she was going to contact technical support and get back to me, she never did. On 02/01, I called Nery to ask what days she has available. She told me the week prior that she had part time hours available, Monday and Wednesday full time or Monday thru Friday from 8am-1pm or 1pm-5pm. Now when I called her back on 02/01 she wants to tell me she thinks Monday and Wednesday full day is taken, she was going to check the schedule and call me back in 20 minutes, she never did On 02/05, I emailed Nery to remove our son from her list and reimburse me my money. Now this is my first time dealing with a daycare center in this capacity. I am in contact with daycare centers all the time for work and I never thought I would be treated the way Nery has. Nery does not communicate with us. If I don't call her, we won't know what is going on with the spot. We are still not given a start date. She has only been in contact with me since yesterday because now I want my money back. Now she wants to text me a copy of the application signed by my husband on 01/19. Now she wants to tell us that we lose 40% of my deposit, which was never told to us before. Now she wants to try to rectify the situation, after damage is done. She does not want to take some ownership, due to her lack of communication. She also mentioned that parents need to give a two week notice if the child is no longer in daycare. As far as we are concerned, we are giving her a month notice because we never got a start date. And to add the icing to the cake, she told us she was waiting for us, the parents to give her a start date. I am disappointed. I am frustrated and I am owed a full refund. Our application was never complete. She does not have my son records, our photo ID and birth certificate. We were told one deposit price and charged another. We were never given a start date and she took our money.

What we like most about…read morethis daycare is that the staff and atmosphere are friendly and there is strong communication. Whereas in many places parents are not allowed to enter the building, we were invited to come in, talk, and even sit and play with the kids for a bit at pickup. There was nothing to hide, which is important for building trust. Our 2-year-old (at the time) had a difficult transition. He would cry and scream at drop-offs for 2 months straight. We were called in for a behavioral meeting in the beginning as well, which helped all parties understand the situation better. Sometimes they would call me to let me know what was happening, or I would call and check. After the transition period, he adjusted quite well and became a star student. He enjoyed spending time with the small group of friends and his teachers. As parents, we liked getting picture updates by text or Facebook every once in a while. The teacher would let us know how the day went when we picked him up. There were arts and crafts projects and the teachers tried to find activities that interested individual kids as well (in my son's case, electronics and lights). They even worked with us regarding medical issues that came up. In many cases, they knew more about his ailments than the clueless doctors. The less-than-ideal factors were that within 1 year, his main teacher changed 3 times. This was hard for him. However, each one was wonderful. Food was not included in tuition at that time, which means the extra stress of packing snacks and lunch in the morning. At some points, there was overcommunication, like several emails within a week. Ultimately, this is better than being under-informed. We highly recommend this daycare. Every family is different but it was a great fit for us.

I was so nervous to send my first son to school in general and everyone I met at the school/center just made it so much easier for me! My son loved his class and his teachers and would get mad if he ever had to stay home Miss Kayla, Miss Christina and Mr Pablo were amazing classroom teachers. Mr. Matt and Miss Cassidie at the front office were so helpful and kind and my children LOVED seeing them every day! I do have to give some extra love to Miss Kayla. What a teacher. She goes above and beyond, truly, in all she does for the students and families. The family events were excellent, the crafts and instruction, songs, games etc were all a huge part of making the school year wonderful. Even more than that, she genuinely and most sincerely cared for our kids. I couldn't be more grateful! We are sad to leave! If you get placed here for RIDE PreK you will not be disappointed!

There was even a positive covid case in my toddler's class and I had no idea until I overheard another parent talk about it. Come to find out from the teacher that the kids were exposed to covid about 2 weeks prior and she was "not sure why they didn't tell parents." When I confronted the director about it, all he had to say was "I'll have to find out what happened and talk to the teachers" which I doubt he ever did. Between that and being called unreasonable for requesting that teachers share what they are teaching my child, I'll be staying far far away from Dr. Daycare.
