Having just moved to the townhomes behind this little shopping strip, i often see the sign posted "BEST MEXICAN FOOD ON THE ISLAND". Always skeptical after having lived on this island for over 35 years (hard to find even mediocre Mexican food that isn't Tex-Mex)....well, had to give it a try. Very glad that we did. Came here on a Friday night around 5:30 and the place was bustling (but not packed). We were seated quickly and we noticed that there was a line at the back for the to-go orders. This place has a thriving take out presence as people just kept piling in for their take out order. Shortly after we ordered, things started getting busy for the dine-in crowd as well. I opted for the Tamales and they were quite good, but i think the best thing you can get is their name sake- the Chile Relleno....my husband ordered that and i tried it and it was delightful. You can choose between black beans or refried and both were good. The salsa was . . .ok, not the best but also not out of a jar, so that's a win. Its BYOB for $3 PP (Times Supermarket is right next door) and at around 6:00 a guy with a guitar started playing live music. What a great little venue! Stopped in for a quick lunch, and absolutely glad I did. The are located in the Ko'olau Center near times. The interior decor was rustic and very homey feeling. Also I love cool and the ac plus fans made it feel great inside. Look for the table top flyer for the digital menu. Even though I got their at lunch time, chips & salsa and my food came out pretty quick. The server was quick, polite, and attentive. Now the best part......the foooooodddd. I love a good chorizo and their omelette did not disappoint. The presentation was awesome. The chorizo flavor had a nice kick and was great. The omelette, cheese, and toppings made it so luscious and creamy. The spanish rice had tons of flavor. It was the best chorizo breakfast I had in a long time. Only downside was also a good thing, I just wanted more chorizo in mine haha. One important note, check the last page of the menu, the sauces type side can range from $2-4 or so, so be careful as it could add up quick if you keep asking for more as you pay for each. It's fairly priced. lots of places overprice Spanish food but not this one. My money is spent on good quality food of which this place has. Service: my family was welcomed with greetings and it was an amazing atmosphere. We were all welcomed. All the staff was very friendly. Really enjoyed our server. Manny is a good server. I needed some paperwork at the DMV in kaneohe so we decided to have lunch over here. Also after my eye appointment too. Well I had their taco salad without beans and it was huge. My husband had their pork tamales and he said was good. My said I ask for no refried beans or blk beans but did want ground beef. The server was very friendly and spoke with a little accent. We decided to have lunch at Chili Relleno since we were going to the Department of Motor Vehicles office next door. Let's start with the service There was one waitressto who served the whole restaurant. She was pleasant and did a great job. When we were seated, there were about 8 customers. In a few minutes, that counrt surged to 18. She came by to give me a drink refill. When we were done, she packaged our leftover chips. The restaurant decor is typical of Mexican restaurants. Very rustic Mexico. My wife ordered the Taco salad without beans. She said it was good. She ate the whole shell, which she normally doesn't. It had a good amount of beef and cheese. More than other Mexican restaurants. It did have less lettuce. My dish was the pork tamales. Served with rice and retried beans. You get two mini tamales. After living in Los Angeles for forty years, I moved back to Hawaii and was desperate to find a Mexican restaurant which compared to the great mom and pop places you can find on almost every block in LA. After trying almost every Mexican restaurant I could find, I finally stumbled across Chile Relleno, thanks to a friend who lives in Kaneohe. This was the answer to my search. Chile rellenos are my favorite Mexican dish and this restaurant makes them as good as I ever had in LA. Their enchiladas and tacos are great too. My friends love the shrimp dishes. Stopped in for lunch around 11am on a weekday. They are located in the shopping mall right across from Valley of the Temples, with some amazing Mountain Views. This is a Very warm and inviting restaurant with the most friendly service! There are two large tvs that play sports. We ordered the guacamole which was fresh and delicious. They offer complimentary chips and red salsa, the salsa was great with the perfect amount of spice and cilantro. We ordered the carne asada and chicken tamales. Some of the best Mexican food we have eaten. It was authentic in terms of food and the ambiance. It was a warm and lovely place. We had just come back from snorkeling and were hungry. They served us the starters fairly quickly although the main course took a little bit of time. The queso was delicious and the chips and salsa were spicy and just hit the right spot. The veggie Chile rellenos were beyond excellent. The portion sizes are pretty big and their beans were perfect. We ordered the quesadillas for the kids which also were very tasty. read more

Carne Asada Chille Rellano: The portion is very generous . Definitely was full after I polished this plate along with the complimentary chips and salsa. The Carne Asada was a bit salty and the Chille could have used a lot more cheese. The Spanish rice was Ono though! Service: Waiters were attentive but I found myself having to ask for multiple refills on water. The price is fair and I wouldn't mind coming back here. The shopping center is lacking with choices. The chipotle sauce not as tasty as a few months ago as the sauce was lacking any chipotle flavor and was bland. The burrito's tortilla was gummy. This WAS my favorite and go to order but no longer. One of the latest Mexican restaurants in Honolulu (technically it's in Kaneohe) to serve Chile Relleno's. I've been here quite a few times and always forget to write a review, so here it goes... upon entering restaurant you can easily see that it is a Mexican restaurant by the decor. We were seated immediately by the hostess. I couldn't wait to look at the menu and I swore I was gonna try something new. I'm normally a chili Relleno cheese only person but today I chose the Chile Relleno stuffed with shredded beef. My daughter ordered the Chile Verde. The pictures aren't that great because I forgot in the beginning and had already started to eat. First thing to notate is that they give you very generous portions. Not only do they have Chile Rellenos, they also offer stuffed bell peppers. That's on my bucket list for next time. My Chile Rellano was covered in a shredded beef that had been marinated in gravy sauce that was delicious. The Chile was tender enough to cut with a fork. The only thing I wish for was that the plate was as hot as the waitress claimed to be. I'm an oddity and I like my food piping hot. It wasn't cold just to make it clear it was warm. I love the beans, I chose refried. They also offer black beans. The rice was a little dry, but mix it with the beans and Pow! They were great together. They decorated the dish with some pico de gallo, which I used with some chips to eat. My meal was Mucho Bueno! My daughter is extremely picky about Chile Verde. She went in, expecting it to be another failure. She was extremely surprised how good it was. She sucked up every last bite of the super tender pork with the slightly tart green sauce. She loves to mix her rice and beans together. She used the corn tortillas they supplied to make mini tacos using the Verde had a little bit of sour cream that was decorating her plate. I really enjoyed trying this place for the first time. Seems pretty popular as there was a little bit of a wait, but not too bad :) We were a party of three. We ordered the shredded chicken chimichanga, tamales and grilled chicken fajitas. Our server Manny was so awesome with us, he asked which dish was my favorite but I told him I couldn't choose, every dish was delicious! Oahu is not known for stand out Mexican cuisine. Probably since it's an island in the Pacific but sometimes you get a hankering for some good beans and rice. This was the first spot we tried on island for Mexican where nothing was bad. The spot is on the smaller side with mostly booth seating and a couple tables so there was a bit of wait. Our pleasant server also informed us the kitchen was a little behind that day. Communication is preferred! It has an open kitchen and got a little noisy at times but to me, it was a vibe. It's decorated like most Mexican casual restaurants I've been to with recovered seat booths and walls filled with pictures. The queso skillet came out hot and bubbly and was a huge portion of melty yummy cheese. Although it wasn't the standard white Tex Mex cheese my body craved it was technically way more authentic. The salsa served alongside the table chips was wonderfully spicy and thick with tomatoes onions and fresh cilantro. Not the blended watery bland kind I've had elsewhere. Maybe not kid friendly or those who are sensitive to heat. My tamales were moist and reminded me of my time in California. My husband was craving breakfast so he got the machaca (a shredded beef and egg scramble topped with cheese and served with tortillas). My brother in law got a giant burrito which he could only finish about half and my sister got tacos. All the meat, toppings and sides felt fresh and seasoned well. I usually tell a good Mexican restaurant is by the rice and beans. This got an A from me. Not gluey not over cooked perfectly seasoned tomatoey rice with creamy rich beans. I could have just eaten that although I would have missed out on the best part of the evening. Whoever made the flan (dessert special) deserves a kiss on the forehead and slap on the back.
