This place is garbage. The so call manager is a bitch! I'm a server and been working in restaurant for years so I know what good service is. I didn't like the choclo pastel or something like that I order cuz it taste n looked old so I return it n she got mad at me and give me attitude for nothing. When her job as a server and "manager" is to please the customers so they can come back. But I guess she is too busy been a bitch then worrying bout everything else. This new restaurant is just want was needed in a city (Los Angeles) that lacks many Chilean food choices. I went there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised to see pictures of all the sandwiches that are available to eat. They also had hot dogs that were huge (I saw a table next to us order one and that thing was monstrous). I ordered a chacarero italiano (sliced beef, green beans, tomatoes, and avocado) it was deliscious and I would recommend others to find them a try. My sister ordered a pair of empanadas. The stand out was the chicken empanada - it was so nicely spiced that it was excellent. El Chilenazo starts you off with a piece of bread and pebre - the bread is fantastic on its own and they sell it as well for $0.50/each. Finally stopped in last night when they were closing, and the owner was so sweet, she let me order a dozen of the most delicious and biggest empanadas I've ever had! Got home, warmed them in an oven at 400 deg. for 15 minutes and perfecto! As told, do not microwave them, it'll ruin them. Definitely going back for more! Visited on my break from work and loved it! The place is a little piece of Chilean culture with Chilean everything from novellas playing to the soda. The lady who helped me was very kind and helped me right away. I ordered the shrimp & cheese empanada and the cheese empanada, which came to $4. My order took about 10/15 minutes but the empanadas are made fresh to order so I wasn't complaining. I kindly took my order to go and enjoyed them at work. They're pretty big empanadas- crispy & delicious! I expected like a special sauce or seasoning in the shrimp one, but it was literally just shrimp and cheese. I've seen a few Chilean restaurants come and go in the Valley over the years. My husband is from Chile, so we've tried them all. This one is my favorite. This place has been good every time. They usually have 2 or 3 types of bread (pan amasado, alluya, etc) and fresh humitas as well fancier dishes like pastel de papa, cazuela and Peruvian stuff in addition to the usual churrascos and Barros Lucos. My very favorite meal is an empanada de pino, an empanada de queso and ensalada Chilena.Peruvian food is available all over Santiago now, so it makes sense that would have aji de gallina and lomo saltado on the menu. The setting is a bit of a hole in the wall, but that doesn't bother me. read more

Great food! But we come back for their empanadas. My favorite empanada is the plain cheese. It's surprisingly delicious, especially with the tomato salsa. Buuuuut, this place is Chilean. Everyone who works here either speaks Spanish only, or just enough to get by. They're not attentive to customers if you're not Spanish-speaking, or if they don't know you by face. That's just my observation. But it's a good thing I'm considerate of the cultural and language differences between ethnic places and American brand establishments. Don't come here if you're a stickler for customer service only. Just don't bother or you might judge them unfairly or give them a narrow-minded review. Let's face it. They opened their business to serve their Chilean community. I don't think they thought too much about trying to make it mainstream and appealing to all races. How have I not given them a review? I think about them weekly now that I moved too far to visit them on an almost weekly basis. I'm chilean so I am always looking for chilean food but it is ridiculously hard to find good and affordable at the same time and this place is it. I want to plan L.A. trips based on visiting them and getting a cooler full of food to bring back bahahaha. But ok so what to get. First their empanadas are bomb, second they got humitas and omg i live for humitas, and third all the baked goods omg. One time I took my dad to treat him and we left with over a hundred dollars worth of goodies to share with the fam! BEWARE ORDERING TAKEOUT OR DELIVERY !! and there aren't many seats inside. my takeout order: pastel de choclo chicken salad 2 humitas what i ended up with: 1. there should have been 3 side salads (humita, humita, pastel de choclo). there were only 2. yet i paid an extra $8 for the 2 side salads that go with the humitas. 2. chicken salad picture on the menu looks like it has 7 or 8 slices of avocado. mine had 4 small brown ugly avocado slices. 3. i asked for salad dressing on the side for the chicken salad. didn't happen. i was going to save it for another meal later or the next day. now it will be ruined. 4. side of bread included had neither butter nor salsa/pebre included. dry dry dry bread. the pastel de choclo was as good as i remember from my expat days in santiago, so i'm giving 2 stars for food. but withholding 3 due to being gypped on side salads, chicken salad, and bread. 2 hours later: i reviewed the electronic credit card receipt and found an extra charge of $13.50. i called the restaurant and found that 1 of the humitas was without side salad and 1 was with. so the # of side salads was correct, but the charge for the à la carte humita was $13.50 when it should have been $4.50. at this point i asked them to refund the tip as well. oh, one of the side salads was wrong too. should have been tomato & onion but was limp handful of lettuce w a tablespoon of corn, onion, & tomato added. for $4.50. however, upon reflection, there were probably some communication glitches, so i might give another chance. but only if i can inspect the entire order before they bag it up for takeout. read more

Man I wanted to like this place. I totally don't understand how it got so many positive reviews. I really wanted this place to be my "new spot" but sadly it won't be. Order the spicy cream chicken dish and it was awful. It had a terrible after taste, I took 5 bites and gave up. Waste of money. Got the chicken Spanish rice... rice dish was okay at best. The chicken in it was dry as a tire. The sausage was ok in it. I ate it because I was hungry. Got each empanada and those were good. I'm not a fan of when people put olives and raisins in it but that's a person preference. That is not a knock against the restaurant. Given some of Chiles dishes really depend on local ingredients, I think Chilenazo does a good job of proving Chilean food outside of Chile. The beef empanadas are really good and spot on, and their selection of desserts and pastries with manjar are also spot on. If you want empanadas like grandma used to make this is the place to check out. Prices are a little pricey but it is extremely worth it when you taste these heavenly little empanadas. My favorite are the chicken, and the steak both containing yummy raisins and egg slices. In addition the Pastel de Choclo (corn cake) is phenomenal. The scrumptious traditional Chilean dish is primarily corn with black olive surprises and tender chicken. Lastly, the cherry on top to all of the delicious food, the deserts are outta this world! After searching and searching and searching for Mil Hojas cake I finally found it. A cake full of layers of crumbly bread and caramel makes my tummy happy. 10/10 would eat here again. read more

This place is not very telling from outside, but once you get in and smell the flavors being cooked up in the kitchen your mouth starts to water! This was my first real authentic Chilean restaurant. I went with a foodie buddy who suggested it. I usually trust his choices so I even had him order for the both of us. Marcela was our server. She was very sweet and accommodating and offered us both a free little pastry at the end of our meal! We got the paella de mariscos-seafood-and it was BOMB! It came loaded with squids, fish pieces, mussels, clams, and maybe octopus too. This was served mixed with-yellow-possibly saffron rice-and full of flavor. We also ordered the fried fish with mash potatoes. This was totes not even needed although it was lightly battered and not seemingly deep fried. The potatoes were...real:) we took most home. Also we got the salad with celery and avocado served with lemon wedges. This review is solely based on the lomo saltado plate. I couldn't decide whether to go with 3 or 4 stars. The flavor was good and they do give you a big portion of fries but not so much of the steak. The steak wasn't my favorite, authentic lomo is one of my favorite meals so I've had my share and it is usually prepared with rib eye steak. First time here with my wife and it was a great experience. A friend recommended this place and I'm glad they did. The food was authentic, and had a different taste and texture than most foods from the region. The person who helped us was excited to do so. It felt like he really liked his job, the food and introducing people to Chilean food. Every time we had a question about something, he took the time to explain in detail and even brought us out samples to try. First, I need to say we probably need to order other things from this place before I judge one of the meals of this restaurant's food as just average. That being said let me get this out of the way. The Chicken breast in the Pollo a la Parrilla was flavorful; but leathery dry. All the other foods I ordered were good. I also had the following... I added a comment on the side: 1. Tallarin Verde- fair to good. The beef was just ok in this. Maybe if the meat was sliced into strip, the flavors would have been distributed better. The pasta seemed a little over cooked, but tasty! 2. Tallarin Saltado -THIS WAS EXCELLENT!! Steak and pasta and vegies were perfect! 3. Pescado a La Plancha - GRAND SLAM! The fish was seasoned very well. The person it was for could have had 2 orders. 4. Seafood Empenadas were ok... BUT the shrimp and cheese Empenadas are to die for!
