Man I had high hopes for this place as it's walking distance from my house. Had the eggs (2) over med, bacon (4) strips, toast (2) and hash browns with coffee. Food was ok eggs cooked perfectly Hash browns were normal nothing special. Bacon was old and WAY over cooked if it was real bacon not sure. Toast was toast nothing special. So I would say a below average cafe meal. Picture Dennys but Dennys is better. Service was ok. He brought coffee and we never saw him again until the very end. He didn't offer a Togo coffee. Food came right out we had to go to the counter to get our bill. Here is the kicker the meal was 23 dollars 28 with tip. 23 dollars for eggs bacon and toast. I know prices have went up but come on. I can make this in my kitchen for about 2 dollars. So 10 dollars maybe 15 maybe. Well I looked around and there were about 6 people in the place. Delicious! I came here once before and it was good, and this time it was no different. Service is wonderful, quick and attentive. We ordered a few items and I really enjoyed the ribeye, chicken fried steak, and the onion rings. The house made salsa was good too with a nice kick of spice. Every time I look up breakfast spots, this place always pops up on my list, and I finally decided to check it out over the weekend. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the corned beef hash, which is made in-house. While I appreciate the effort behind the corned beef hash, it left a little to be desired, and I probably won't order it again. It came with a side of hashbrowns, toast, and scrambled eggs, but overall, it was just mid. However, the real star of the show was the CHICKEN & WAFFLES! OMG! I asked the waitress if she recommended this, and she insisted I get it, with a tip to make sure I eat the waffles while they were hot. When the dish arrived, the waffle was perfect--crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, I added just the right amount of butter and syrup. I was in heaven! The fried chicken was seasoned and fried to perfection, with a crispy exterior. I received four generous pieces of chicken. The chicken and waffles is definitely a MUST-HAVE. I will be going back! A few side notes: the restaurant is located inside a bowling alley, the decor is a bit dated. If you need to use the restroom, it's outside the restaurant area (in the bowling area.) Village Cafe is a simple, food mostly from scratch, restaurant. Not fancy, but delicious each time. Hubby looks forward to a simple cheeseburger and crinkle fries and I enjoy their salads with crisp greens, Persian cucumbers, olives and house dressing. When I have tried the lamb/beef gyro I have found it very yum! The soft pita and fresh tzatziki sauce is a real treat on "cheat day". It has been several years since I had eaten here. Last time I ate here was I think in the 90's when the cafe's menu had some Asian dishes. I remember ordering Spam, eggs, and rice here years ago. Anyways, I ordered the fried chicken and waffles here because I noticed there were tons of positive reviews about it so I had to try it. Chicken was good. The waffle was awesome. I discovered The Village Cafe after looking for coffee shops around Woodland Hills and discovered that this location isn't quite a coffee shop but a general diner. I would describe this as a local restaurant where would could expect a typical American meal. What wasn't typical was that it was connected to the bowling alley - a pleasant surprise. I was torn between an omelet and a sandwich but ultimately settled on the Super Salad Supreme with bleu cheese dressing. I tried to eat healthier, and since I was on a time crunch, I ended up getting it to go - and I'm glad I did! It took about 5 minutes for me to place my order, and the salad was finished within the next five minutes. I was later told that there was actually no bleu cheese and settled for ranch. Although it was a quiet Monday afternoon, the waitress spent another ten minutes chatting with the cook and left my food in the kitchen when it was already ready. I almost ordered a coffee, and I'm glad I didn't! The salad to go came with a generous amount of ranch - the good stuff, not watery! I enjoyed being able to dress the salad to my liking, and the food overall tasted good. It was a rather skimpy salad, but a few hours later I felt sick to the stomach. I'm still not sure why that happened, but for a $19 (with tip / tax) salad, I am unlikely to return for those reasons. Los Angeles may be consistently looking to tomorrow and being one step ahead of the times; but its history also shines through especially when talking architecture. If you merely take the time to look; you will find remnants of the Spanish Mission/adobo style, buildings still touting the golden age of art deco, space age modern real estate transporting back to the late 50s/60s and even retro neon accents. What does this have to do this have to do with Village Café, a diner, you ask? Allow me to explain... Head on over to the Vanowen/Winnetka intersection in the Winnetka/Canoga Park section of the West Valley and you feel like you are being transported back into the late 50s hay day of the San Fernando Valley. This is where Winnketa Bowl resides - formally Canoga Park Bowl - and has been greeting bowlers since 1958 with his huge retro-font sign. This is THE place to go for those who love all things LA retro. Connected to the bowling alley is Village Café which, even though looks like a truck stop coffee shop per its exterior; manages to carry on the throwback feel.  The entire compound is sleepy, quiet and peaceful even during prime evening hours on a Saturday. Don't be worried about parking - Village Café and Winnetka Bowl has more than enough to spare. In fact, they should share with the rest of LA. The lot is HUGE! I was set to meet a friend for coffee and he chose the Village Café because it was the only place open for coffee in the area aside from Starbucks. But let me tell you: getting INSIDE Village Café feels like an escape room or scavenger hunt because I could NOT figure it out for the life of me as a first-timer. The diner is connected to Winnetka Bowl and there are connected and separate doors but I was confused by this and thought they were soley the entrances to the bowling alley. I did find a side door that says "Coffee Shop is open" but it looked like the door to an alley way/kitchen so I was hesitant to open it. Why are you trying to keep patrons out, Village Café?! Take it from me: it causes anxiety. Don't be afraid of the side door, though, as it is indeed an entrance. Once I did manage to Indiana Jones myself inside; I feasted my eyes a rather large, airy diner with high ceilings and lots of natural light. The space is stuck in a time warp and is also the perfect place for a film scene where cops discuss a case or an indie movie with a couple on an emotional trainwreck date; but don't confuse this for dirty/greasy: the diner is actually quite clean. We had the place to ourselves and were the ONLY patrons so our experience was entirely peaceful and quiet. Now, I can't vouch for the food at Village Café because we only came for a chat and beverages and thus you will have to read other reviews for that insight. However, I was even impressed with the drinks. I ordered a hot tea and was served a lovely little tea kettle, cup, Bigelow-brand assortment of tea bags and a lemon slice (the table has sugar and Splenda packets). The main reason for my high satisfaction with tea was that first of all, the water was perfect temperature. Hot but not, "I'll burn your tongue for all of eternity!" - hot. Second: the tea bag assortment. Generally, diners/cafes offer the same old bland offerings but Village Café had unique flavors I've never seen elsewhere like Raspberry Hibiscus (SOOOO good!). Way to stand out, Village Café! My friend had an ice tea which was refilled consistently 100x and tasted freshly-brewed. If these small details apply to the food at Village Café; then I suspect it isn't the typical awful diner food. The biggest A+ at Village Café was the service. Although we were the only ones there during the duration of our visit; the fact of the matter was that we were there an hour and a half merely sipping tea and not purchasing plates. This didn't anger the waiter who showed no annoyance, wasn't pushy about our presence and still managed to make sure we had anything we needed. I genuinely felt care about and as though they wanted us there. Excellent business skills! A small note: the restrooms are inside the bowling alley and therefore you have to walk out of Village Café, into Winnetka Bowl and they will be immediately on your left versus inside the restaurant. If you are seeking a charming, peaceful, step back into SFV time then the Winnetka Bowl/Village Café compound is the place to be. You'll be served with amazing customer service while basking in all things retro. Village Café is definitely a solid diner in the West Valley and surrounding areas. read more

The food - I've had breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I leave super happy. For me, the French toast is the BEST I've ever had, can't be beat. It's not dry, but it's not soggy either. I've had their healthy dishes--egg whites with veggies, so good... burgers are amazing. Decided to come here after driving by one day and noticed that they had a banner right on the corner stating they have the best Chicken & Waffles. So of course, I couldn't get this off of my mind and decided to drive here and order it. Just a side note, they are open for outside dining and there are about maybe 10 or so tables under the big white tent. This Cafe shares the same parking lot as the Bowling Alley (Currently closed under Covid) and a Best Western. When I picked up my order, I noticed how light it was. I was a little confused because the pictures and reviews indicated that it's a pretty big entree. From the weight, it was pretty light. But after about a 20 minute drive home, I opened the box and there are 4 pieces of chicken, so basically half a chicken, and 2 normal size waffles. The meal comes with a good amount of melted butter, syrup and a sweet & sour type dipping sauce. Kind of reminds me of the sauce you would get a Panda Express or at a Thai Restaurant. I was a little disappointed because I wanted real hot sauce. This sauce was not hot at all. After drowning the waffles with the butter and syrup, I finally took a bite and have to say that the waffles was soft and did not taste like a cheap batter you would get at a Best Western's self serve waffle station. I can't really say if it was soft because of the 20 minute ride home, or if it really is soft. Either way, it was a good batter. The chicken was still crispy but the chicken almost had a livery mouth feel to it. I don't know if it's because they overcooked the chicken or if the meat was old. But I don't think fresh chicken would have that type of texture. The batter on the chicken was not bad though. It was seasoned and not bland. I wouldn't say that this is the best as their banner read. But if I was in the area and wanted decent Chicken & Waffles or even a good breakfast, I would come here. Maybe next time, I'll dine onsite just to see if there's a difference in quality. read more

Best Belgian waffles in The Valley! Even better than last favorite breakfast place in Encino! They were the crispest, perfectly browned waffles. Almost like funnel cake. My omelette and my kids' breakfasts were awesome as well. I don't know why Greek diners seem to be consistently so excellent at breakfast, but this one holds pattern. Our waitress Kelly was also awesome. Actually, these may have best Belgian waffles I've had outside of France, if I think about it. Do you like diners? Then you'll love The Village Cafe. How can I be so sure? Well the food is great, the service is fantastic and you're attached to a bowling alley. Come on, channel you inner Lebowski!! But seriously, the food here is fantastic, as Chef George says on the cover of the menu "I'm Greek and I cook there for I am" and he means it. The menu is extensive and very good. I try the specials from time to time and have always been satisfied. We've become a sort of regulars here, couple times a month. My daughters both love it here. Maybe it's because George is always so cool to them, coming over to the counter to make a joke or two. Yes my girls love sitting at the counter. Or maybe it's because they now love the bowling alley, but 80% of the time we come in we don't roll or go to the arcade. They love the food they get here, and so do I. You can tell all the ingredients are fresh, they don't cut corners. And as I've told people, the best way to judge a dinner is by either the breakfast items (my daughter absolutely loves their sunny side up eggs, bacon and super buttered toast. (Daddy, your toast is good, but Winnetka Bowls toast is the best, she just turned 5). The other is the club sandwich. This one is spectacular, so much so I had to drop Nicos dinner to 4star as much as I love that place too. Let's not forget the service, it is fantastic here. Everyone is so nice and on top of it, and like I mentioned, you always get a little treat because George will come by and chat with you and make you feel like a guest in his home. That is wonderful. Ate here for the first time today. Came in for breakfast because I heard how good it was. I'm here to report that it was fantastically mediocre. Got a grilled cheese for my 3yr old. It came with bland unsalted fries and it was the simplest grilled cheese ever. This wasn't from a kids menu as they don't have one. So the fact that its considered a grilled cheese for an adult at almost $9 was pretty absurd. I ordered the French toast with 2 eggs with choice of either two bacon or 2 sausage. I opted for sausage and was expecting sausage links. Nope. Two small mashed up sausage patties is what you get. I opted for hash browns for an additional charge. Those were very bland, again, no salt. The French toast was meh. Nothing in the overall meal was flavorful. It was all bland. Bottom line, not a terrible experience but not memorable either. Just moved to Reseda a few months ago and came here for lunch last weekend with my mom who was visiting for Thanksgiving. We sat in Kelly's section and she was just wonderful! So personable and caring and we ended up chatting with her a little bit throughout our meal. Our moms even have the same name! The food was fantastic--I can't remember the last time I licked my plate completely clean at a restaurant. I ordered a mushroom omelette with hash browns and it was all amazing!! Use the bowling alley entrance instead of the one on the side and it'll lead you to the front of the cafe. read more
