I've never given a restaurant a bad review, but I am upsettingly disappointed in this restaurant. 2 stars just for the ambience and nice staff. We went for cinco de Mayo. They had a limited menu, which was understandable. I got the signature margarita ($14) and my partner got the house ($8), they came from the same premade batch and tasted the exact same but mine had an orange on top. Very sad but okay. The chips and dips were meh. Again, okay. Then the food came. I got the crepe pablanas($17) and my partner got the mole pablano ($18). We got 8 bites each with the crepes being very average and the mole being the worst we ever had. Flavor is preference, I know, but the bill coming out to $70 and still leaving hungry is the worst restaurant experience ever. Save your money read more

You can tell Chili Verde's recipes are passed down from generations (the owner is from Puebla). Truly cooks with amazing flavor. Had the pleasure of eating here with friends a few weeks ago. Its nestled in the highlands area of Denver and quite a unique setting.. Kind of upscale, kind of eclectic very unique. We had a variety of different foods. I had a chile enogada with ground beef it came with a side of rice. Someone else has a poblano stuffed with seafood, another had a spicy pork dish, someone else had carne asada & lastly were the chicken fajitas. The plates were artful in presentation and the food was delicious. I also ordered a glass of argentine malbec which is my favorite! We also ordered dessert platanos machos & churros. My wife, daughter, and I showed up at 430pm to enjoy an early dinner. The restaurant's door was locked but I could see a cook and another person walking around the dinning room. The person walking around struggled to open the door for us. Once they did, we asked if they were open. The guy was clueless and said let me go ask. They open at 4pm per the door signage. Pleasant Authentic Mexican! Situated on the West side of Federal Blvd, (near the Broncos Stadium) in the middle of West 23rd and 24th Avenues. This great Mexican restaurant is run by two brothers whose family is from Puebla, a city south of Mexico City. I walked my dog a few blocks for a late lunch as a friend recommended it for me. The shaded pleasant green colored entry says that this is a cool and good place to eat! I was greeted at the front door and immediately knew that dogs are welcomed on the secluded brick enclosed back patio where music and lights complete the authentic feel. The entire experience was more than perfect for my afternoon meal. My server, Steven, seemed to be almost a one-man show and knew exactly what I would like. My meal included: Beet salad with feta and hint of a green dressing drizzled across the top. Delicious! I tried several salsas with one being the Macha- it's made with chipotle peppers, garlic, olive oil and salt - at first, just flavorful and spicy, then all of a sudden, Bang! Then it just keeps giving! Omg! Entree was Enchilada de Suizas - a Chili Verde signature dish adorned with a pleasant green sauce. Another sauce I tried was the Puerco en Chili Morita - an excellent smokey flavor with a hint of rosemary and a bite of pork! I ended up placing this on everything! Dessert - this was a complete surprise and called "Spring Fling" which is a Denver Native favorite from downtown dating back to the 1930's. Although this dessert seemed to have nothing Mexican about it, other than the edible orchid sitting on top, it was the PERFECT closing to my meal. Definitely a 5-Star rating! read more

We walked in the door and we were immediately transported to Mexico! The ambiance, decorations, cleanliness, and greetings from the staff told us we were in for a wonderful feast! First of all, the food is awesome. It's unique to the Mexican state of Pueblo. Their mole sauce is the best I've tasted. Having studied Mexican cooking a bit, I know how many steps there are in making mole sauce and other salsas, dishes, etc. served at Chile Verde. These people don't cut corners. It's also a more elegant place than many Mexican restaurants in Denver. This makes it a great place to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, etc. However, their prices are still reasonable. We were there on a slow Tuesday night during Christmas week so the owner came over and attended to us personally. His friendliness and personal attention really made us feel liked valued guests. I've eaten here several times in the past but will definitely visit more often in the future. It's the best Mexican restaurant I've found during the decade I've lived in Denver. P. I cannot believe we drove by this place so many times not knowing that such a nice restaurant offering authentic Mexican cuisine was right there. The inside is decorated nicely and they have a side patio as well. Enchiladas in mole sauce is my favorite Mexican dish to order and at Chili Verde it was fantastic. Hmmm, I want to love this place. Locally owned, friendly people, cute decor. However, unfortunately, they have an extremely limited menu before Bronco games. I understand everyone is understaffed but to limit the bar to only house margaritas and a bottled beer seems a bit crazy to me not to mention it must cut their profits down a ton. The menu was limited too with no tacos available at all but maybe that was just that one day? We had the chicken taquitos and water to drink. Chili Verde is an absolute gem. The ambiance is tremendous, the margs are delicious, but the food is the star. Starting with the Salsa Trio, they introduced me to a flavor I'd never had before and that I now crave - Salsa Macha. It's nutty, it's spicy, in the words of Guy Fieri - I'd eat that on a flip flop. Even my wife who doesn't like spice asks for another bowl. She had the Chile en Nogada once and may never order anything else again - a top dish in the city for her. I've bounced around the menu, but the best in my opinion is the Rib Eye Poblano. A transcendent dish that tastes more expensive than it is, a rare find these days. In all, the flavors are expertly balanced - you can just tell there's a level of care and passion put into each recipe. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Eder and hear his story, it only made us love this place more. read more

Do you know what you don't know? Did you know Pueblan Cuisine is one of the oldest and most savory regional cuisines of Mexico? Did you know that's what's served here? I think it's time to rid yourself of some of these questions and fill your stomach with great food and drink at the same time! OK, it's on Federal and the area is just a little sketchy but the inside is very nicely appointed. Table spacing is excellent and there is a fairly long bar along one wall. My party of four was greeted warmly and had menus in our hands immediately. We began with adult libations. I started with the house marg and it was decent for $6 but nothing special. But then I moved up to a tequila flight. I choose the "Plata" for $14. The menu says it should be three 1/2 oz. pours but that is a happy mistake! I enjoyed three 1 1/2 oz. pours. See my pic. For me this was a five star flight and an excellent value! Others in my party also said their drinks were excellent. Chips and salsa here are exceptional. You receive warm gluten free chips and three types of salsa ranging in heat from mild to fiery. The entire table loved them. For an appetizer we shared TOSTADAS DE TINGA- Three tostadas made with chipotle marinated beef and topped with lettuce, queso fresco & crema for $8. Heads up! They were smoky and delicious and very spicy. Prepare for some heat! My Denver Elite daughter Jennifer B. posted some outstanding pics. My entrée was RIB-EYE POBLANO- Rib-eye steak served on a bed of rich poblano sauce for $16. One again it was excellent and the pablano sauce packed some heat. We walk into the place to find that the AC is having issues so it's hot in the restaurant. We get seated outside at a dirty table and I'd say the seating outside was generally filthy. The waitstaff, while friendly, took forever to get us waters. Their beer options only include a few Mexican beers. They charge for chips and salsa btw which doesn't make sense to me since this isn't heard of where i'm from. The meals were lacking in flavors and proper salt. I got the beef fajitas which tasted like the only "amazing house seasoning" was a can of chipotle sauce dumped on it-not good. They do not have flour tortillas here. Her dish was lackluster as well. Walked out with a $50 dollar tab. I'd say these amazing reviews in yelp may be for folks not used to original Mexican or Tex mex food found in Texas! When this restaurant was recommended to me by someone from Mexico, I immediately put it on my list to try. We came last night for dinner and lucked out in getting a table. Friday and Saturday nights are reservation recommended, FYI which we didn't have. Our waitress was awesome and I put her in the tricky position of choosing what she thought was the best dish to represent the Puebla region of Mexico. She chose very well with the signature dish of Chili en Nogada. It actually sounds not great from the description with a blend of peaches, beef, walnuts, pepper and pomegranate. But when the flavors come together, it works. I didn't find it to be salty enough so I did add a little salt. The hubs opted for the chili verde. He thought his pork had great flavor but was a little dry. We both found the rice to have excellent flavor but was overcooked and on the mushy side. The chips and salsa were excellent as were the house margaritas. This is a great restaurant to expose people to other regions of Mexican cuisine that are not at all what most people think of in regards to the typical Tex Mex version we so often get. read more
