I was invited to this place. Its tucked in off to the side of a shopping center on Joppa Rd in Parkville. The name makes one think it sells just crab. There was a menu with none seafood items. The area that was designated for a party of 30 was not reasonable nor safe. The waitress and staff assisting her in the beginning were not helpful. The first time we went here was a fantastic experience. It was earlier in the day, not too busy. Service and food both great. Second visit- around 5 pm service was seriously lacking. We waited a long time to see our server throughout the whole visit- brought us the wrong food, didn't refill water, didn't give us gloves or the metal cracker to open our crab legs- also not sure if this place even has knives? So you will be using a plastic fork to remove crabmeat- good luck. I get it that it was busy but it was really disappointing as we absolutely loved it last time. Also the music was so loud my husband and i were basically screaming across the table. Moral of the story never go here when it's dinner rush. The server was overworked and could not handle the tables that she was serving. When we arrived, we set for 20 minutes before someone came. And even asked us, do we want water? It took down about a minute to get out food. We really didn't order anything because we didn't like the service that we was receiving the food. My co-worker ordered the gumbo. She said the rice was hard and it really had no flavor the muscles were good in the crab legs was good as well. But they did not have any utensils for us to use. The server told us that all of the utensils were being used and I had to wait for someone to finish using theirs in order for me to get some just to eat my crab legs, very horrible. They have an AYCE seafood boil deal which was honestly great for the price of $35 taste was great, they give you what you order and don't skimp, and have all the accompaniments you'd want. Went in at about 3pm, it wasn't particularly busy but for some reason it was a 30 minute wait for a table of 3. However i only found this out after the hostess literally ignored me standing right in front of her for about a good 5 minutes while she talked to her coworker. Then what i assumed was her manager finally talks to me and when I tell her a table for 3 she doesn't take my name, number or anything and just vaguely says "30 minutes". Saw an amazing review of here online so I was excited to try it. Don't believe everything you see on IG... Made the drive and walked in, it's dark and the vibe is great. However, trash and shells under the tables, staff isn't welcoming etc. Went to use the restroom and the doors are broken, the walls are caked with a layer of scum, the hand dryer is dirty and nasty. Hair all over the toilet seats etc. smelled like weed and urine before you even go into the bathroom. At this point, I went to sit down and the tables are all sticky etc. There's no excuse on a Sunday, where there's no one in the restaurant to clean your spaces. I can't imagine what the kitchen looked like. Didn't try the food, left immediately. Been in tons of crab spots like this, the AYCE is really the catch but not worth the nasty. read more

Man the service here sucks. My partner and I sat at the bar and it took a while for the young bartender to greet us. By the time she did she only gave us one menu. Mind you there's 2 people sitting. We ordered some things off the happy hour menu that included drinks, wings, shrimp and broccoli and nachos. My drink was sweet and fruity didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. I noticed the kitchen staff bring out a dish and sat it on the counter by the register. After about 10 minutes the bartender brings the food over to me. She gets me some rice from the kitchen that I ordered on the side. The rice was hot but the shrimp and broccoli I ordered was cold. I ate the food slowly hoping the wings would come out soon. The bartender checks on us from a distance with thumbs up and I told her no. When she came I told her we're still waiting on our other food. So she goes and checks on it. She told us the wings were being cooked on a different side that's why that was taking long and the nachos had to be put in the oven in order to be made. It took another 20 minutes for her to come out and tell us the nachos were sold out. By now we were completely over it. Soon as the wings came we boxed them up and left. Apparently the kitchen was extremely backed up but that was not stated to us. They really only catered to those ordering the big seafood platters, which that shouldn't take long either. I won't be back to this establishment. They need to prioritize and cater to their customers. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

Food is not prepared consistently. One day the seafood boil & sauce is amazing & a few days later the sauce is actually very watered down liquid and the crab legs are mushy. The entire boil tasted like left overs. We will give them another try since the first carry out order was so amazing. But will not return anytime soon. We went here for happy hour after work and I was plesantly surprise. They have a pretty good $5 -$10 HH menu. I got the steamed shrimp with med seasoning and they were delicious and a nice size. I chased it down with a Barbie drink that has prosecco, and watermelon vodka in it. If you like strong drinks, then this is the place for you. Our bartender April was great. I told her I like more of a sweet drink so she added a little simple syrup:) She also gave recommendations on the menu. Stopped in this Saturday for Happy Hour. I entered on the bar side. It was a few people at the bar and a couple of people at the tables. I was heading to a seat at the end of the bar. Right before I got there the bartender turned as if it were taken or she was expecting someone. Long story short no one came and sat in that seat. Ok let's move on. I think I was expecting a more social vibe. The bartender handed me a menu and a few minutes after that she placed some water in front of me. She gave me a few minutes and then came back to take my order. I only ordered cheese sticks and boom boom shrimp. Before the food came out she gave me a marinara sauce. The food arrived . I didn't think much of the cheese sticks and the marinara was nasty to me. I did like the boom boom shrimp. I had two drinks while I was there. The strawberry margarita which didn't have a salt or sugar rim on it did nothing for me. The lemon drop didn't do it for me either. Overall the only thing that I liked was the boom boom shrimp. First I want to say that urban crab used to be a place I truly enjoyed . However, it has turn into a lounge and I'm not feeling it . Can't sit at the bar because people holding seats . You sit at the tables and you don't get served . Full house of workers and no one even attempted to even give water. To sum it up: Food was mostly good; prices are great; service is in the negative. I visited twice... dine in both times. I ordered shrimp honey tacos, sweet potato fries, crab balls and a churro with vanilla ice cream. The tacos were good and I loved the honey sauce that was drizzled on them. You get two tacos, which is just enough for one person and it came with the fries. The sweet potato fries are very good as they are, no sauce or cinnamon needed. The crab balls were good, but Mt favorite was that sauce! The sauce is so delicious. The churro has absolutely no flavor. No cinnamon, no sugar, nothing at all. The dipping sauces are probably the lowest generic brand of chocolate sauce and honey. The ice cream was the most basic ice cream, likely generic. First time I ordered a drink it was good, small in size though but matches the pricing... 2nd visit my drink never came smdh... Service is more like 1 star, but I gave them a general rating of 2 stars only because of the food. First visit - It took a while to be acknowledged, a little bit of time to be seated, and a lot of time for the waiter to come to our table. 2nd visit - we were acknowledged and seated quickly, but it still took a very long time for our waiter to come to the table... the guy who seated us the first time was not dressed in work attire so we had raised upbrows when he said he would seat us as he was walking fast to hurry up and get rid of dishes. I think they may be short staffed. The waiter both times gave 1 to 2 star service. They weren't mean or rude, but they didn't give good service. They were both young and clueless about how to give great service. It appears this place is just running itself, no experienced manager or staff. The music was good both times. Vibes seem cool when you enter, but this place lacks the right staff. It has great potential to be better than it is... At first I said my experience with the service will not stop me from visiting again because no one was rude... just lacked customer service skills and staff probably wasn't trained on how to 'service' customers. When we were finally seated, the table was wet, and even after the waitress made a quick attempt to wipe it, I had to finish cleaning it myself. It took several minutes just to place a drink order, and even after ordering, nothing came. The waitress told us she would be bringing our drinks, but instead, we watched her close out another table while we continued to sit with nothing but two cups of water. By 9:45 pm--nearly an hour later--we still had no drinks or food. At that point, we got up and left. There were no employees around to even speak to on our way out, just a few gathered at the bar. We have been ordering our meals as take out, and this was our first time dining in. We came out on 2/18/22 and thought there was entertainment, but I guess not the right night for it. We were taken to our seat and given menus, and there we sat and had to wait even after we ordered our drinks. Hubby ordered the Rum Punch, and I had the lemonade. The wait was way over 15 minutes, and I had to search for a manager. Not one server attended to us or checked on us to take our food order. I had to go to the front and ask another young lady for the manager. By then, I advised management that we have been seating and waiting for service. We were advised that there was a delay at the bar for drinks, but it would have been nice to know that. We placed our order and advised our food would be out soon. The broils were good as always. This could be a great place for many but I don't think it was right for me. It took a little bit (15 mins) to get service after getting seated around 8 PM. What also may work for others didn't necessarily work for me - loud music for dancing made it hard for conversation but did provide a great vibe if you are looking for a mix of dancing and seafood. The only other issue I encountered was I had ordered crab from their menu but they didn't have tools for eating crab....which made my dining experience pretty difficult. I ordered a seafood bag and a pound of shrimp and when I got home I was excited for a tasty seafood dinner. I called to ask about it and the girl said that was how they cook the seafood, which I don't understand. None of the food actually tasted like what it was, the butter was so overpowering. I was super excited to try this place out as I've always enjoyed seafood boils, starting with Hot And juicy in DC. This place has great ambiance in a very modern setting. I think they have a ton of potential to be great. However, definitely some kinks. No one greeted me when I walked in and I stood uncomfortably. Finally someone (maybe manager or owner) looked up from his computer and told me to sit anywhere. Tables and floors were sticky. The manager ended up being my server and suffice it to say that service was rushed to say the least. Joe literally sprinted around from table to table and you had to flag him down for simple things--napkins, water, a pail for the shells. Meanwhile the rest of the staff did not seem to have any urgency at all. Poor Joe seemed to be carrying the show. However the food was AMAZING. Loved the Cajun spicy blend and the shrimp were juicy, the corn bangin' and the crab succulent. These steamed bagged seafood style of restaurants seem to be popping up everywhere, and I see why they're so popular. The new addition to the Parkville area, Urban Crab Shack, is definitely makinga name for themselves. Offering a variety of seafood steamed bags from shrimp and mussels to king crab legs and scallops. All bagged up and seasoned in your choice of a flavorful blend. And the blends actually didn't seem as salty as some of the other similar establishments. They have Po boys and baskets of all sorts to cure your hunger. And verything comes out piping hot, so be careful. But the one thing you must try are the sweet potato fries. I know...of all things, lol. Urban Crab Shacks nautical themed restaurant I think will definitely add a nice touch for a different style of seafood with a bit of a Cajun flare. read more
