So..... this location is on a college campus. I'm not gonna be too generous and allow that to skew my view of the overall Chili's experience. The long and short: the wait staff appears to be all students. This is good as it gives them an opportunity to interact with humans and learn to work. Most of the staff here are very ....... interesting. One guy is tall and skinny and talks so quietly you can't hear him. The girl who was our waitress kept asking for our approval before she would do anything and she took a long time to get us a beer. The hostess couldn't seat our party of 8 because all the big tables were seated with parties of 2. The food is close to what you'd expect from a Chili's. Maybe a little greasier. Someone else picked this restaurant and I agreed before seeing the reviews here. I was more than skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised. It was lunchtime on a busy Saturday, but we were seated quickly by a very nice hostess and our server checked in with us right away. Our orders were taken quickly and our food arrived about as fast as possible. It's Chili's, so the food is what it is. But our meals were as good as any that I've had at other locations. Had to ask for (each separately) utinsels, napkins, replace our own empty ketchup, and remind the ditziod waitress of our drink orders. Sheeze. Got that snotty, entitled, millennial passive aggressive bullshit attitude throughout the entire experience. Only thing that works here is the kitchen; and the door, which we will never pass through again. Go somewhere...anywhere else. For Cullowhee, it is a decent place. IT IS NOT A REAL CHILI'S! It only has the Chili's name and menu. It is ran by the food distribution center for WCU. It is the closest thing we can get to a restaurant in Cullowhee. My favs are the Old Time Burger and the Shredded chicken, bacon and cheese quesadilla! read more

I have always enjoyed Chili's. However, the staff was rude and not helpful. We were completely ignored when we came in. We waited 40 min and this was after we had to ask if we were in line. Despite walking in before multiple parties we were told we would have to be put on a wait list and wait. When we were finally seated we were greeted by more than 7 unoccupied tables. Last time I went I ordered a steak(big mistake but I wanted a low carb meal) I wanted it medium rare; it came out barely seared and dripping with red. The inside was so tough and gooey. Ever seen Kitchen Nightmares? Well today I got to experience it firsthand. My wife, our son and a friend of our's decided to meet for dinner tonight, arriving around 5:40. As we pulled up I saw that the majority of the outdoor tables were open. "Great!" I thought. I couldn't have been more wrong. We approached the hostess stand expecting to be sat immediately, but instead we were told that there would be a 30 minute wait. As we gestured towards all the empty tables (well over half the restaurant) we were told that the wait staff simply couldn't handle the volume if every table was occupied. "Oh well" I think, it was a beautiful evening after all so some extra time outside was welcomed. Finally, we were called to be sat at a table. We requested a small, empty outdoor section where our son would be free to wander around without disturbing other customers. Our waitress appeared to be extremely inexperienced and nervous, which isn't an issue, but she couldn't name the beers on tap without going back and forth to the bar 3 separate times. It took quite some time to get our drinks, so by the time she finally brought them all we were ready to order. Our order was simple. A white queso dish as an appetizer and 2 orders of the prime rib tacos. We expected to be in and out fairly quickly, but that too couldn't have been further from the truth. Some 15 minutes later our waitress returned carrying a basket of chips with salsa, but alas no queso. The waiting game continued. Another 20 minutes pass and she returns with a skillet containing something that resembled fried vomit. Before this repulsive concoction could even be placed on our table, we informed her that was most certainly NOT what we ordered. We reiterated that we wanted the white queso and she hurried off to put the order back in. Again, we wait. Shortly thereafter our entrees arrived. Visually they were lacking, obviously thrown together without much care. But its all about the flavor right? So I rearranged the pico so it was more evenly dispersed (rather than one large clump in the center) and took a large bite. Instantly, I was hit with an overwhelming amount of cumin. It was as if I opened the jar and poured a tablespoon directly into my mouth. Had I not been so hungry, and the wait so obscene, I would have sent the entire plate straight back to the kitchen. But at this point I just wanted to eat, so I pushed on. Thankfully the next bites were edible, although just barely. What the menu advertised as "prime rib" was more reminiscent of canned dog food; the texture, smell and flavor were repulsive. The tortilla? Overcooked on the edges and soggy in the center. What passed for sauce was a bland, unremarkable mess. At some point I discovered a slice of avocado in each taco, lazily hacked and thrown in underneath the mystery meat. Also included was a side of rice and black beans, though I dared not try either. The beans appeared to be at least a week old and the rice a mushy mess. Just as I abandoned hope of having a satisfying meal, our appetizer finally arrived. By this point I really should have known better, but I remained skeptically optimistic. Yet again, I was disappointed. The dish was an absolute mess. Queso, overly cooked cheese, salsa and a ground meat (horse?) were haphazardly thrown into a shallow skillet. The horrendous visual was only outdone by the awful flavor, with the only edible feature on the dish being the queso buried under the disgusting toppings. To be fair, not everything was horrible. I rather enjoyed the salsa, sweet tea and water. But it should go without saying that I will never return for a second try. This was the single worst dining experience I have had in my 25 years of life. Eating goat prepared by African villagers on the coast of Djibouti was significantly more enjoyable, despite the incessant flies, unbearable heat and desalinated sea water as the only choice of beverage. As a parting note, I never once saw a manager on the floor of the restaurant, perhaps explaining why the establishment is such an utter disgrace. read more

We ordered to go and the molten lava cakes were given frozen and I don't believe that's how they should be given. ALSO, you messed up the order completely when given to us. It was put in properly but not given to us right. We ordered the two for $25 and wanted the quesadillas and then the steak plate, you gave us two orders of quesadillas and not to mention the wait time. This is UNACCEPTABLE & very disappointing. We drove 45 minutes to eat here and had a group of 9 senior citizens and the restaurant was not very accommodating! The host was extremely rude and refused to let us sit at a large table where no one was and then refused to let us pull tables together or even pull a chair up! I understand fire codes etc but the service was terrible and my seniors citizens felt they were being attacked! Staff was very rude and wouldn't even allow us to separate into multiple tables! On my visit on April 29th, 2018, for a group of 5, was put on a waitlist for "10-15 minutes", but was made to wait for over 40 minutes to be even seated EVEN THOUGH a two-person party who was on the waitlist after our party. The two person party was placed on a table for 8 and we were told to wait because our "waitress" was on break and that they could sit us soon, but our waitress would not be with us until she got back from break. Not only is this store run poorly and inefficiently, but borderline disrespectful and potentially incompetent work staff. Food is average, but service is very poor and long. One star? No stars.... my iced tea was refilled once during the meal with warm tea no ice once during the meal. My margarita chicken was cold the first go around. They replaced it with another plate of food that was cold. This food was unsafe to serve and barely warm to the touch. Nobody apologized nobody checked to see if the replacement was ok. Chicken was very dry and rubbery like it had been precooked hours ago. To me it seems the whole dish was prepared and then microwaved. The crispy tortilla strips were hard and stale and not crispy at all. There are a total of 8 customers and more employees FOH than customers. Servers seemed aloof and only seemed worried about taking your order and bringing the check. Another table got sweet tea that was not sweet then was told they had to wait for more tea to be brewed. Another table ordered soup but got no spoon for the soup. I would have been better off going to taco bell and spending $10 than here and spending $40. read more

A little bit of advice: the best times to eat here are when the students are out for break. Service is usually pretty fast when the students are off campus. I went here during my lunch break while the students were out for winter break and ate my food and was back to my office in about 40 minutes. Had lunch with my wife today. Got a good spot in the parking lot by the door of Chili's. Lunch was good, waitress was good. Now the bad news, no wifi unless your a student, waitress had to tell us that you have to pay for parking at the machine with your spot number ($1.00 for 30 mins) or get a parking ticket. Oh, you can park up the road at the construction site for free and walk to Chili's. By the way there were no signage about paid parking. Tried to use my Chili's gift card but guess what? They will not accept them but they will accept the student food tickets. So if your not a student I guess the University don't really care if you come on campus since they have the policy on WiFi, parking and what cards Chili's will accept. The waitress apologized saying it was Chili's in name but due to the University they do not participate in Chili's national promotions or anything else Chili's does. So it is a Chili's menu and thats about it. read more
