I went in for a simple nail art design for my birthday. The front desk staff was nice enough, but my nail tech seemed to not want anything to do with me. I showed her the design I wanted with cat eye, and she couldn't even show me color options in a professional way. She then told me since I don't know what gel I have, she can't do a gel fill and offered no solutions. I travel all over the world and get gel fills and have never experienced this. She didn't even LOOK or touch my nails to try to figure out a solution! Her attitude and my confidence in her ability to execute a simple design had me walking out within 5 minutes. GEL NAIL REVIEW. I've seen a lot of varying reviews about customer service, quality, things like that, but I had a great experience at chillhouse! I arrived about 5 minutes early for my appointment and was greeted and invited sit and wait. My nail tech, Jasmine, invited me into the nail room right at my allotted time slot. I got a tier one gel nail manicure. Jasmine did a great job! The little hand scrub in between nail prep and the manicure was great. She also gave a really wonderful hand massage at the very end with some lotion. My nails turned out SO cute--perfect for fall. I've gotten so many compliments on them! The manicure waaaass a bit pricey at $62, but I'm glad I came. I also bought a set of the chill tips, so I'm excited to see how those work out for me! read more

A few months ago I booked an appointment to have Chill Tips applied ($20). The nail tech (I think Rocio?) cut and filed my nails down a lot. She then spent time figuring out which Chill Tips to apply to my nails. The process took about 30-40 minutes. Once I got home 2 of the tips fell off. I was leaving the country the next day on vacation so I tried to re-glue them back myself. Once on the trip a few more fell off. This was really frustrating as I had to spent my vacation constantly re-gluing nails until finally I gave up. They looked horrible on my trip. I wasn't using any oils or heavy lotions on my hands so not sure why they would fall off. I expressed my concerns to Chillhouse and Bailey noted I could come back and have new Chill Tips applied and the cost of application would be refunded. I recently went back to have a new set applied. Seemed like I had the same nail tech (Rocio?) She cut my nails (some almost too short) over trimmed some of the cuticles and went through the same process to apply the nails. Well, 1-2 Nails fell off right there at application, which she re-applied. One nail was glued crooked. I left praying these would stay on for an event I had that weekend. I was extra careful when I left and for the next few days in fear of them falling off again. Next day I flew out for my event and within 3-4 days of application nails fell off. Once again dealing with the frustration of having to re-glue these on was so annoying. I emailed Chillhouse again and Bailey noted there was nothing they could do because I was already comp'ed once. I was simply given a store credit for the nail application I paid for. Top it off I developed a fungus under one nail and now having to treat that for the next few months. Again, this meant nothing to Chillhouse. I even asked if I could be comp'd and use the funds towards another service because clearly the nail service is not good. Never got a reply. I would avoid getting a nail service here especially Chill Tips. When you pay to have these applied, it should be done correctly and the glue should last more than a few days. The point of press on nails is to be quick and easy and last a week or more. Instead you may risk having them fall of right after you leave (or even in the shop) or worse develop a nail fungus! From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff was rude and dismissive, leaving me standing there for several minutes without acknowledgment. I have been here three times. Most recent time I did the UV sauna and after I decided to rinse off shower, they DO NOT HAVE HOT WATER. After trying to "chill", taking a freezing cold shower following a 100+ F sauna session was the worst experience ever. When I asked for help they told me they didn't have hot water, this was the only shower and that all they could do was call building management (too late!). Another time I got a massage and the lady talked the whole time, she was so heavy handed and cracked my back. I had a pretty good experience at Chillhouse. The interior was trendy, but it felt a little underwhelming - i.e., concrete floors and acrylic tabletops that were scratched up. If I would have had time, I would have tried a facial, they looked quite nice. As for the manicure, they do a coffee scrub and spray oil on your hands that makes them really soft. They ask you if you want your cuticles cut, which we did. Other than that, neither of our technicians tried to make small talk with us, which was fine. My partner and I got 2 tier 3 seasonal gel manicures, and they were $95 each. I was really impressed with how well the girls were able to recreate the designs from the pictures. The nails stayed nice for about 2 weeks, which is pretty standard. It was kind of low energy the day we went in, I'm not sure if that is always the vibe. There was low music playing in the background. Also - I understand that this is a pretty pricey service, but we went for a special occasion, so we justified it. I am unsure if this could be my regular nail place because of the cost. It was a fun one-off experience, though. I was also obsessed with the valentine's designs they offered. They are so cute. First off I am SO happy w my nails. I have done nail art at another well known NYC spot, and left so disappointed after being told they could only do one design with the size of my nails. A friend frequents chillhouse, so I wanted to give her spot a try. My tech, Rose, immediately had recommendations on what could be nice on my nails, how to shape them to look long, and changing colors of the design. First found out about this place through a friend that shared her manicure on IG. Further checked out and booked a self care day for a massage. I did the "chill pill" for 80 minutes which was just what I needed! The online booking process was very seamless and user friendly. I received a text about my appt day before and an email about 48hrs before with all the information about the appt (staff name, late policy, charges etc.). It was fairly priced for your modern day massage. Rasheed was super great. Very welcoming upon arrival and kept it professional all throughout my time. I would suggest asking the customer a preference of sounds, as I had water sounds in one section of the room, then the sound of the humidifier and the overall music from the business overhead. Chill pill massage (80 min): Alicia is AMAZING and if I was just rating the massage it would be 5 stars all the way. She was incredibly thoughtful and asked me a lot about what I wanted to focus on, what my posture habits were, and what felt good and what didn't. In addition to the massage she also showed me some great stretches to help alleviate some of my everyday pains. I have some TMJ/teeth grinding issues and she worked her magic in my head/neck/jaw areas. If I lived near NYC I would make myself a regular with her. I didn't have any issues with the music playing--it was calm lo-fi beats played at a reasonable volume. Quick facial: I'm not sure what tool was used for extractions but it was more painful than I've experienced at other places. Other spas also have more steps to make sure that your skin calms down and won't break out post-extractions. I could tell within an hour that I needed to use some of my own products to help my skin recover. I also have sensitive eyes and the room is quite dark, so the facialist has to shine a bright light onto your face to inspect your skin. They cover your eyes with something (I think it was cucumber or small eye towels) but it's definitely not enough to actually block the harsh light out. Overall the service felt nice and my facialist was kind, and I appreciate that there was no pushy upsell of products that I wasn't interested in buying. I don't think I would do it again though. Cafe: I had a Spin My Wheels latte with the shroom booster. The powder wasn't mixed in super well so I could see chunks leftover when I finished drinking it. It was a little overpriced but it was tasty and hard to resist the temptation when you're already there. read more

Every time I go, I leave incredibly happy with how my nail art has come out! The space is bright and airy, with a coffee bar located on the other side of the space (though it's not open all that frequently, but it could be the hours that I go get my nails done). That also brings up Chillhouse's amazing hours! I tend to work late and having the salon open until 9 p.m. a number of nights during the week is a lifesaver. Beyond the general features of the salon, I love being able to go in with photos that I've found online or on Instagram of different nail art, show it to my nail technician, and she'll take it and run with it. It's important to note though that this can depend on what nail technician you get--some stick more to the script aka the book of pre-selected nail art designs that Chillhouse offers, but most if not all of those designs are still awesome. The other great thing about the salon is that you don't feel rushed and the environment isn't anything like what you find at your regular nail salon where it can be incredibly overwhelming and stressful. I used to dread having to get my nails done for that exact reason... While Chillhouse can, objectively, be a bit pricey, that's because of what you're getting--nail art isn't cheap, but nail art at Chillhouse doesn't cost nearly as much as it does at other salons that do similar nail jobs, which is awesome! When you compare prices to a lot of other salons out there, not just the Japanese nail studios, which are incredibly intricate, Chillhouse's prices are pretty reasonable. All-in-all, I'd definitely recommend Chillhouse for your next mani and/or pedi! read more

2 stars for pedicures. This place is aesthetically pleasing but has zero function! I've come here 3 times now and 3 strikes and you're out! The first time was for a 90 minute message. Overall a good message but I paid for an aromatherapy thing, I was so relaxed I forgot till I was on my way home and realized I didn't smell anything special. Next time I came for a gel pedicure. I got a special hemp treatment with a message. The message and hemp were pretty much non-existent. Also the chairs are really uncomfortable and the water bowls are separate and make it all weird. The lady has to go into a back room and fill up a bucket then dump it into the foot bath, so it gets cold really fast. Plus it's on wheels, so it's moving around all the time. Such awkward and crappy set up. I decided to go one more time and get a regular pedicure. Paid for a $20 20 minute message and it lasted about 7 minutes. No hot rocks or hot towel or anything you'd expect to get. Chairs were still uncomfortable and the water got cold, again. Then my toe nails were done, there was no UV dryer. She says to me to wait like 15 before leaving. It was really awkward to put my sandals back on from the weird chair. I pay, walk out the door, look down and my left toe nail is f#cked up! This was a $88 pedicure before tip! Guess I should have just sat there for about an hour cause that's how long it takes to dry without a UV dryer, hello!!! Do not recommend. I got a manicure back in January of 2020 that has literally ruined my nails due to an infection over a year and a half later (including my friends as well). I had grown out my nails and not got them done for months and wanted to treat myself of business trip. I got a shellac manicure and days after I got home, my fingers started to itch and I needed to remove the shellac. They proceeded to lift from my skin, build up in thickness and turn yellow. Soon my nails were cut down so low and they would constantly crack and bleed. This ended up costing money in multiple doctors visits, prescription pills and ointments (that are hard on your liver mind you) and has still not ended as of June 2021. I also passed on the infection to my roommate and her nails are ruined as well. I emailed Chill House TWICE with zero response as I wanted them to be informed that they needed to properly sanitize and not pass on to more customers. Definitely NOT worth the manicure. read more

Only reviewing drinks! We dropped by on a rainy day to escape the weather. I think it's supposed to be a nail salon, but we just utilized the cafe. They had coffee and some non caffeinated drinks. I got their make me glow latte, it was really good. Wished they had a menu listing the health benefits of each drink, but regardless, it was tasty. Gave it 4 stars because it's still pretty expensive and for a 'chill house', I would've expected a more comfy lounge area. Would def return none the less read more

I have been a Chillhouse regular since the beginning (and when the LES location was the only one around). I have always felt my experiences at Chillhouse are average at best, but it's clean, (sorta) affordable and mostly reliable. With the LES location now gone, Soho is our option. The space is big and cute - Instagram aesthetic on point. I always get massages at Chillhouse. I've never gotten my nails done because the prices seem ridiculous and there's so many reviews about how terrible the service is for nails. I've definitely had some great massage therapists at Chillhouse who are now long gone (Leo and Dimitri were amazing at LES). I am glad Holly moved from LES to Soho and that Chillhouse did not lose her. She is excellent and super friendly. Samantha is also great if you can snag a time with her. I have on occasion been called last minute to be told that my massage therapist had to be changed or that my appointment had to be rescheduled due to staffing issues. This happens a bit more than it should in my opinion. Not sure what goes on with their schedules but over the years as a Chillhouse customer, this has happened at least 5 or 6 times. It's never a major issue but I've been going to many other spa places for years that have never called me once about a staffing issue. Since COVID, they've shut down their cafe, which sucks. I hope they bring this back soon. Also, I am hoping that $8 "Covid fee" they are adding on top of the massage price goes away soon as well. I am not sure what I am paying $8 extra for considering that hygiene and cleanliness should always be a priority in a salon. I haven't noted any 'additional' Covid measures other than my temperature being taken and that doesn't seem to justify an additional cost. If anything, I would rather they just increase the price of the massage instead of throwing the fee on top of it. I had the absolute best experience here! I came for a gel manicure and a regular pedicure. Everything exceeded my expectations. The nail designs are so fun and the technicians really care about their craft. My nail technician really took her time and wanted to make sure I was happy. I changed my color and design twice before starting and she was extremely patient with me. The barista at the coffee bar and the host at the front desk were both warm and welcoming. So comfortable it feels like home! Highly recommend! My only issue was with the pedicure because the water basin is on wheels and rolls into the technician if you aren't holding your feet up which doesn't allow you to fully relax for your treatment. Extremely, extremely overpriced. I came in on Wednesday for a gel manicure and basic pedicure. My total came out to $140 which is absolutely absurd. The pedicure chairs are not comfortable - the bowl is not attached to the chair so you basically have to balance your feet so that you don't accidentally shove the bowl into the nail tech. The nail lady also used a ton of force on my nails and my feet and it was pretty painful. And the real reason I'm writing this review is that one of my gel nails chipped last night (Thursday). If you're doing the math that is a little bit over 24 hours after paying over $60 for just the gel manicure. Do not go here. Oh also it was my birthday, I never get gel manicures in NYC because they tend to be pricey, I wanted to treat myself. Im definitely feeling the buyer's remorse. You definitely pay for the aesthetic of the nail salon and the branding. They should instead be focusing on the actual experience of paying customers instead of the stupid ~vibe~ they are trying to create. Chillhouse, please re-evaluate your priorities. read more

The masseuse talked through the entire massage which definitely ruined the relaxing vibe and felt like a bit of a waste of time. Got a basic mani, which she did not use a base coat (with such a dark color on my nails too) and they have no dryers. The quality of Chillhouse has really gone down hill. I was once a member for about a year and a half and discontinued my membership because of the inconsistent quality of the manicures. However, I'm a sucker for their designs because I do overalls find the Tier 1 to be a decent value. So the issue with this place is you have to know who to go to because only a few of the people who do nails are actually good. Even the ones who are good don't really give me the best manicure I could have asked for. Here, it seems the focus is more on the nail art than it is on properly treating nails. You more or less come in and leave with the same nail shape, length and hang nails. The one time I asked to have my nails cut they were all different shapes and lengths, so when I do come here I lower my expectations in the name of a cute nail design. My most recent visit was really uncomfortable. Global warming appears to be here to stay, so it's should no longer be surprising that it's hot in October. I visited the second week of October. The space was uncomfortably hot with just a single fan to cool off the place. I even got bit by a mosquito when I was there and I'm allergic so I was on edge the entire manicure. I got bit my the mosquito before I sat down for the manicure, so while I was waiting I was trying to kill it. After it buzzed off I had to wait outside until the nail lady was ready because it was just gross in there. In the end, I did like how my nails turned out. Do not get your pedicures here. It never made sense to me there isn't an official section to dry your toe nails. Also the whole process of getting a pedicure is more stressful than relaxing. Seats are comfy but the way my feet had to be positioned on this hardwood plank was so awkward the whole time. I tried giving this place a chance but, it's a no for me when it comes to pedicures. I do adore their manicures and multiple tier designs and the gel DOES last for at least 3 weeks. Anyway, this review is long over due and I have been going to chillhouse pre and post pandemic. I got a gift card for chillhouse so i decided to try it out. I chose the quick face 30 min facial but you have to put in a credit card to hold your appointment spot and can't use your gift card online to pay. I got there and was helped right away and my facial started within 2-3 minutes of me getting there. He suggested that i should've booked a longer facial to really address my skin concerns since i hadn't had a facial in a long time. I wish he explained what products he was using and their benefits etc. but it was a pretty relaxing experience and he gave me some skin care samples at the end as well. read more
