They still look great! The place is on the grungier side from the outside, but the staff are wonderful, Joe is excellent, there are no credit card minimums and there is wifi! Highly recommend! I only gave it a one star because 0 isn't available. I came in to get a gel manicure, mind you that I've come here before and they did a fine job. Everything wrong about my trip: 1. The woman did not feel the need to soak my nails before cutting and clipping my nails. 2. As she was cutting my cuticles she butchered the entire thumb. As a result, it didnt stop bleeding for about 15-20 minutes until I asked for a bandaid. 3. She then did not do a good job putting on the gel nail polish, which became uneven. Also, didn't seal the gel polish correctly. All they did was give me $5 off. They shouldn't even have charged me anything!! Update: it's been a week since I got my manicure and the gel polish is already peeling off. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This place is an absolute joke. I've come here many times over the course of the past year as there was one tech who was able to do a talon nail fill perfectly, but since he left it's just gone downhill. There is now a new tech who completely butchered my nails and was a total bitch to me, asking me to FILE MY OWN NAILS because she was incapable of shaping them correctly herself and I wasn't happy with the uneven, amateur shape she'd given me and deemed acceptable. This all happened while the manager looked on and seemed nice at first, helping me to explain that the nails were not of the caliber they should be, and ultimately getting this woman to fix the problem (albeit half-assed). The fill turned out still heinous and the paint job was such a hot mess that I ended up redoing it myself. They then had the nerve to charge me full price after two hours of subpar work and unnecessary attitude. Lo and behold, one nail popped off out of nowhere two days after and another went a few days after that, so I went back in hopes of getting my money back or at least something to remedy the situation as they were all lifting at that point. The fat, disgusting manager had the audacity to raise his voice at me and tell me that I'd never gotten a fill and had only had some tips replaced (a total lie). A refund was not an option, but finally he agreed to have this woman fix the two missing nails. They kept me waiting for far too long, and I had somewhere to be, so I asked if I could come the following day and he said yes. I came in the following day and he refused to fix them. Oh look, another nail just flew off as I'm typing this. Orchid Nail is an absolute waste of time with incompetent staff and poor business practices. Throughout my many visits prior to this, I'd been witness to numerous incidents with unsatisfied customers, so that should've been an indicator. They are clueless as to how to maintain a loyal customer base as those who spend significantly and repeatedly are discarded with zero regard for customer service. This is not how a business survives in New York City and I give them six months to a year before they shutter. read more

Great salon! I always see Joe! I've never had any issues. He's amazing. He does all kinds of nail art. Just show him a picture! My only complaint is that on a recent visit, the manager embarrassed me for not tipping. I had initially told him I would tip cash but after checking my bank account, I realized I didn't have enough. I usually time $7-10 dollars each visit, and I come every two weeks. I didn't want to just leave $3. So I figured it would be okay to not tip JUST this one time! As I was leaving the manager said, "You said you were going to tip"...all of the other customers were looking at me like I had broke the law...haha...or so it felt. It was just really embarrassing! I think it should be the customers choice to tip and I don't think the manager should ask the customer how they want to tip. I know they want to make sure their employees are treated fairly, but I felt really embarrassed. I will continue to come to this salon because I love Joe and everyone else there is really nice, but I'm hoping the manager will see this and not do this again. After my pedicure, I wanted to give them a 4-5 star. But my manicure went bad. So during my pedicure, she asked me if I wanted magazines and brought me a stack. I went hiking the day before so she tried to be careful on the toe that hurts which was decently considerate. My manicure.. Before she painted them.. She leaned over and reached passed the table to grab one of my hands.. It happened after I paid, I wanted to get my metro card out so I won't have to get it after the nails are painted. Her reaching over the table for my hand.. can really describe how impatient she was. Maybe because they were getting a bit close to closing but I got there at 8 and it says they close after 9, I left by 9:10 - the boss lady was saying something in Manderin but I understood that she was telling the person who did my nails to help me with my shoes so I can leave... At first she (Winnie, who did my nails) just walked off and didn't even say anything. Before she walked off, I asked are they closing soon.. She just laughed and semi nodded and walked off. I said thank you and bye... And heard crickets. She was bad with the painting because she went from left to right but completely gave up on painting the right of each finger.. Which made the color look uneven. She fixed it because she saw me looking at it, but before she did she said "so what do you want?" In an ill manner. She insisted on putting another layer of top coat would help and I said I didn't want it to look lumpy, she insisted on it but o rather not do anything because it would just be worst. She repainted them which I appreciate but was definitely rude and ill mannered about it. They are definitely lacking professionalism.. read more

This review is for Joe. I just can't say enough about him-- he's extremely talented and meticulous. He has a great eye for colors and designs, and can virtually recreate any nail design from any photo. He tends to get quite busy, but he's never made me feel rushed. I used to love this place for quality/price balance and nice staff. However, the quality went down while the price went up. Doesn't make sense, right? I've recently got one of the worst manicures: cuticles were cut inaccurately, nails shaped inconsistently, sloppy polish application as if my technician was racing with her colleagues for the next client. Even after I asked her to pay attention to the edges of my nails she still missed corners and edges, though generously covered my cuticles with nail polish. Seriously, I could have done a better job myself and I am absolutely unskilled in dealing with nails. I left 20% tip but I have no desire to come back EVER AGAIN! There is usually soft, relaxing music playing. If you get Winnie she will make your day with her upbeat attitude! This salon is small and no frills but clean and very affordable. Horrible!! Had a callus removal and massage done. First the guy did a lackluster job of doing the one thing I wanted-- callus removal. He didn't dry my feet off when he was done but handed me a single paper towel. A lot of dead skin was coming off of my feet. The massage was nonsensical with him taking water from the foot bath and mixing it with lotion to massage my legs. Very unhygienic and unskilled. All they did was hand me the bill and didn't care about the complaint I voiced. Will never return again. This place shouldn't be open. read more

I've had 3 manicures here in an area which has many nail salons. Orchid has pleasant personnel and is inexpensive. I can't think of other accolades because on each occasion the manicurist has carelessly cut skin; the implements are not fresh and/or new for each customer; the restroom is located down a long flight of stairs; and I have a hunch workers are being exploited. After paying the bill I noticed that the balance which is supposed to be a tip for the manicurist is not returned unless one specifically asks for it to be given as a tip. Was pretty upset with the service I received. Told me one price and charged me another when I didn't get anything extra. Aside from over charging me the woman doing my nail messed one up and decided not to fix it properly so it was left all bumpy. Lastly the manicure didn't reach my cuticles and was uneven, when I asked her to fix it (very nicely I even offered to do it myself) she just stuck her finger in my nail creating a weird line and then got mad and walked away to do someone's pedicure. My new go-to nail place. Their prices are extremely reasonable, they always ask me specifics on how my nails should be done, they listen well to instructions, and above all are friendly and courteous to their customers. My experience with them so far extends to gel manicures and pedicures, as well as regular manicures and pedicures, and they have always done a phenomenal job. My gel manicures usually last 2-3 weeks, and my gel pedicure did not chip for three months! I also like that their equipment is always sealed and clean prior to use, and that they seem to take a lot of care with cleanliness in their establishment. They also offer great weekday specials and discounts to students. As I say...what's not to love? read more

The location is very convenient for me and I find their prices to be pretty much standard. I get powder gel and my nail look perfect for two weeks (aside from obvious nail growth.) This review is strictly about Joe! The salon does give great service, however joe is exceptional in everything he does! First off, he is open to giving his opinion on what he thinks you should do (which often we are overwhelmed by colors and designs), he has great taste and advice! Show him any photo & I promise you 99% of the time he can create it!! He is so talented it's insane. His work is very clean and perfected. He does get busy, so I really recommend an appointment. Besides amazing designs, acrylics, gel, accuracy, great pedicures and quick work. Joe is also phenomenal at giving massages! I am yet to get a full massage, but I make getting a 10 min massage a mandatory every time I go in (for both my back and feet during a pedicure)! Ran in here very last minute tonight for a UV gel fill and pedi. It's a very small, cute and clean salon. The owners are Vicky & Tom and they are adorable and very accommodating. Cindy did my nails. She was also very sweet and listened to how I wanted my nails done. I would definitely go back here. They were moderately priced, and I tried the vinyl polish for the first time. This place is amazing! I was looking for a nail salon and looked through the store front and they welcomed me in. It's right next to Baruch and if you're a student you get a 20% discount so my gel manicure ended up being $21. They have a decent selection of colors for a new store. He also gave me a ten minute massage, which I didn't expect, as my nails were drying. Everyone in the store was welcoming and sweet. I started coming here because it's near my yoga studio (Reflections Yoga on E. 24th St.) and they opened around the same time as Reflections and were offering 20% off everything. Ok. So they got me in the door. I return now because they do very good work, treat repeat customers well (they've given me a gift certificate for money off a next visit, a gift bag with a brand new wallet) and are always friendly. The space is clean and there's never a wait. You can pay extra for vinyl polishes. Their massage chairs are very good and there's one manicurist, I think his name is Joe, who gives GREAT massages, both foot/leg and back massage. He's also super thorough with the pedicures. I like coming here because I can relax and know I'll get a great pedicure for a good price. They kept running the 20% off special for several months.
