Stopped with the family for dinner drove up from nagshead to eat dinner. Do it it's worth the food is phenomenal. Son had chicken enchiladas gone raved on them. Oldest son had steak quesadilla and it was good. Daughter had fish and chips she ate it all. Wife had the fish of the day and it was very good. This place is a great alternative to all the seafood being offered in Nags Head. The service was amazing and the menu was huge. On the flip side - I wasn't a huge fan of the taco salad or the smoked wings. The taco salad lacked lettuce and the smoked wings "house rub" was sweet. Saw how busy they were on a Sunday at 1230 in the afternoon so we decided that they must be good. My bad. After a short 10 minute wait we were seated. Corn chips came out fast and then the wait. Several tables were seated after us and they got their food before us. It was about a 40 minute wait after ordering and was not worth it at all. Shrimp and Grits were bland as could be. How do you make bland Shrimp and Grits? Wife got the Ceasars Salad with grilled chicken that was dry and she said that the dressing tasted very vinegary. Visited this restaurant after trying it out a year ago. Food was consistent & SO delicious. I ordered the baja shrimp tacos and my boyfriend ordered the tuna sandwich. Both meals were delicious! Service was very slow. They didn't seem busy so I don't know what the issue was. The food was not worth the wait. Shrimp was over fried, hush puppies had no seasoning or taste. Consistently great food for years. The drinks are great. The service is friendly. The appetizers are KILLER and you can NEVER go wrong with anything that has the catch of the day. The fish is fresh, flavorful and the portions are large. I put this in the same grouping as my other favorite casual beach restaurants (Tortugas, Goombays, Rundown & Mama Kwans) with ChiliPeppers and Tortugas being my favorite. My only complaint is they all seem to lean heavily on the rice & beans for side dishes. That said, the food is superb. On the appetizer menu the Chimichurri oysters and the Tuna tartare tacos are fantastic. (that tuner dish is killer). The seafood enchilida is huge. The fresh fish steamer pot is a unique take on "catch of the day" and the hot sauces and spices are a nice addition. Don't go in for fine dining. Go in for casual dining that is much better than you expect! There is a large specials menu so you know they are keeping the menu fresh on a regular basis based on what people like and what local seafood is being caught. I'm told they had a dry patch for a few years where they had a bad chef (I must have missed it), got new management and a new name and are now better than ever. read more

Visiting from the PNW and was told to try this joint out. First night I was told they stop serving food at 9? Maybe earlier, so we just got a margarita. Second night we came in and there was about a 20 min wait for 2 people (40 min for 3, 55 for 5 peopl) but we chose to sit at the bar. The margaritas are AMAZING! The Chimichanga with chicken was suggested by a local and it didn't disappoint. Seafood enchilada was soooo good! Probably 8-10 shrimp plus scallops and more. The crane fries were so tender and juicy. This is a great spot! It's worth the wait. read more

Very loud and tight seating. We weren't drinking alcohol so the service was not good at all. Bar type food, nothing special. Scallop poboy sandwich was served with some strange cheese sauce, I wanted cocktail sauce but didn't want to disturb the waitress who wasn't interested in us at all. Won't return. read more

Went to this restaurant 2 times last week while on vacation. First day, amazing experience. We were so pleased with the outdoor seating that allowed our dog to sit with us. The server (owners son) was fantastic. We only ordered appetizers, brussel sprouts, Southwest egg rolls, smoked chicken wings a few buckets of beer. Those were all great. In fact, the experience was so enjoyable we went back the very next night. Second night, HORRIBLE! So horrible in fact we will NEVER give this place another chance. Our server was rude and no where to be found. My dad had to go to the bar to get his own drinks at least 3 times while other employees were just standing around. Our food came out and the side of rice was either under cooked or old and hard. My 8 year old couldn't eat it. We asked the server if we could get something else and the server got a crappy attitude with me like I was trying scam her or something. The super sketchy bartender guy hanging around the host stand looked like he was high as a kite. He came up to our table in the middle of us eating and asked if he could take any of the plates. We had just started eating which made this super awkward. He also came up to our table as we were leaving and picked up the credit card slips to check out what kind of tips were left. He took the bills and left, he wasn't even our server. I have worked in the food industry for many years and I have a lot of patience. I understand being understaffed, this was not the case. The attitudes from the employees were bad, food sucked, and the employees are more worried about how much tip was left than the pile of dirty dishes that needed to be cleared from the table. I wanted to LOVE this place. Such a disappointment the second night. read more

The lunch food is great... the drinks are outstanding... the service is slow, so just be prepared to be patient. Highlights include the Carne Asada Fries... the Cuban Sandwich... and the Chimichanga. Skip the Po'Boy. Try all their different hot sauces and margaritas to find your favorites. We'll be back to this place, for sure. First time to the OBX and this was by far my favorite restaurant! We came for the "appy hour" and got 5 appetizers for $5 each. The pupusas were amazing (especially the bean one). Our other favorite was the boom boom shrimp- best I've ever had! Aside from the food the outdoor atmosphere was awesome. Lots of outdoor seating and shades overhead so it's not too hot. We also had great drinks and great service. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the outer banks. I will definitely come back here next time I visit! read more

We had probably the worst restaurant experience of our lives here. After 15 minutes of sitting at our table we still didn't know who our server was and we're lucky enough for the host to grab our drink and food order. About 40 minutes after getting our order in we received our food; my wings were dry, hard as a rock, cold, and had nearly no sauce what so ever. I sent them back and all they did was put sauce on them so I had to send them back again requesting fresh wings. $16 for 10 of the worst wings of my life. Best part was we still didn't know who our server was. I kept having to go to the hostess and she couldn't find a server to take care of us. I understand that understaffing is an issue but after waiting 30 minutes for a table I trust that we will at least have a server. We ended up being charged full price and spent nearly $90 for 2 meals and 3 drinks. read more

The majority of my visits to Chili Peppers have been successful. However, after some of my more recent endeavors, I find that the service has been inconsistent. One particular occasion was slightly more disappointing than the rest. My partner and I arrived to Chili Peppers at approximately 1 pm on a Sunday. Our food was brought out at 2 o'clock and we waited for our check until 3. This amount of time allowed for us to complete many various activities including the construction of a butter pyramid. (Pictured) The whole time, our waitress was very inattentive and did not check on us once for refills or otherwise. Apart from the disappointing service, we also found that the restaurant was very unsanitary with ants all over the window sill and table. (Pictured) I wish I could leave a better review but I find that my experiences at Chili Pepper's have been inconsistent at best. Despite all of this, I can say that I have still had good experiences at this restaurant. I would simply encourage the reader to assess the many other options before dining here. read more

So we were HIGHLY recommended Chilli Peppers, looked up the menu ahead of time and was very excited to try it. When we got there we ran into quite a few unpleasantries. For starters, this is a LOCAL restaurant, so be prepared to be outcasted as a visitor. We had a pregnant waitress and if that variable hadn't been in play, she would not have gotten a tip. She didn't tell us her name, check on us, refill our drinks (waters) or have any personality when talking with us. Yet, the tables around us that were obviously regulars she had all the time of the day for. Their drinks were full, their food was hot, and they actually knew the servers name. So much so she even forgot our soup and let it go cold talking to these other tables. Next, let's move on to the host. The host seemed decent at first, then when I went to our car to get something during our time I was bumped into by an over-served man with car keys in hand who literally fell out of the front door of the restaurant into me in drunkenness. He politely said excuse me whilst slurring over those words and breathing alcohol in my face. When I walked back in I commented to the host that this guy was WAY too drunk, and shouldn't be driving. He said "thats just how it is around here" and chuckled. I couldn't even eat because that put a pit of rage in my stomach. The service is subpar, slow, and we regretted coming as time here went on. All I can say is if you're a local, I can see how the limitless alcohol and cheap food brings you in regularly. If you're a tourist, go somewhere else because there is zero customer service here. I'd give zero stars if I could, and I hope a manager reads this. read more

We love supporting the local business. We sat at the cool 4 top in the bar area. Manager recommended we order from the bartenders. When we said we were looking for drinks and apps they re-directed us back to the manger. He advised us he did not have a server for us. We were just looking for drinks and appetizers. I came here for lunch and was going off the ratings. Unfortunately, I ordered the nachos and they had no flavor and had the habanero margarita which also had no taste or liquor. I thought this restaurant was so cute; I really love the décor inside. The food was mostly good & we had fantastic service here, too. Our server was so sweet and attentive. She and the guy that seated us came around consistently throughout our meal to refill drinks and make sure everything was good. I do feel like the winner at Chilli Peppers is the Chimmichurri Oysters appetizer. So freaking good. That chimmichurri sauce is legit. The menu says the sauce is National Award Winning, and I believe it! It comes with pieces of toasted bread, which is actually delicious on it's own as well! After we ate all the oysters, we asked for more bread so we could dip it in the remaining sauce, because it is THAT good. I had the Crab Enchiladas as my entrée. These were pretty yummy, & they came with rice and black beans. One disappointment I do want to mention are the Tuna Tartare tacos. I wanted to love these so bad. Another reviewer raved about how great they are, so maybe we caught them on a bad night for this appetizer. I thought at first that maybe I wasn't enjoying them because I set my expectations too high, but after getting others at my table to try I knew they were bad.
