We were celebrating my office assistant's birthday and I called China 1968 to ask whether they did something special for birthdays and spoke with YEN who said yes! When we arrived they greeted us warmly and offered any appetizer the "birthday boy. wanted. He chose the cream cheese wontons and they were a large order (not a small birthday order) and delicious! We all tried something different and we were all very pleased with our choices. The service was fabulous, attentive and helpful and most of us drank a lot of water and they kept our glasses full. Yen and her staff made my assistant's birthday a great experience and we will be back. For someone who likes egg drop soup - this is the place to go. We all agreed it is delicious! read more

The food is good, but not great just like most of the Chinese restaurants in the San Diego area. The price is a bit pricier than most other to go Chinese restaurant. I have tried their chow fun, Singapore noodle, and walnut shrimps and they were good. I would come back to this restaurant due to its proximity to where i live. read more

Have been looking for decent Chinese food for a while in the El Cajon area, and particularly any place that has decent vegetarian options. Did a wee bit of research, found China 1968 online, and decided to give it a try! I have to say, I'm impressed. They didn't have a veg option on the lunch special menu, but they quickly said they'd do the veggies with tofu. Awesome! And best part? The egg drop soup was vegetable broth. Yup, not chicken. Even better? It was absolutely delicious! Seriously, scored all around. Luncheon mates had a beef broccoli and cashew chicken off the lunch menu, and I don't think there was a grain of rice left on either plate -- as in, they inhaled the food and said "we must return!" The place was empty we we arrived at a few minutes past noon on a Friday afternoon. However, by the time we left, there were more than a half dozen tables full, which meant the place was about 75% full. Service was fast and friendly. On a cold and rainy winter day, it was a cozy place to eat piping hot Chinese food, too! I don't even remember the decor. Just the food! I ordered the salt and pepper Wings with fried rice...I have NEVER in my life had such tasteless, nasty food! The rice was dry with no eggs. The chicken...where do I begin? China 1968 has very good reviews overall so I felt confident to order a few dishes to go. I am so surprised because the dishes (chicken with black bean sauce and BBQ pork fried rice) simply have no flavor. None at all. I gave them a star for portion size which, is generous, and a star for ingredients which were fine, but the complete lack of flavor just fully ruined the dishes. My family loves this place! The Orange Chicken is super fresh and even has a little crunch to it, not all soggy like the other places. Best Chinese food in town! Every time I go there, whether it's dine-in or take out, the food is amazing!! Their food is always hot and fresh and the staff is friendly. My favorite appetizers are the salt and pepper wings and their homemade pot stickers. They even make their own chili sauce for the pot stickers and it's delish! My favorite entrees are the sizzling chicken and the broccoli beef. I've been wanting to try a different noodle dish so I ordered the Singapore noodles tonight and this might be my new favorite! My family and I frequent this restaurant. It's the best Chinese food in El Cajon. Prices are a little high, but the quality and portions make it worth it. Their BBQ pork is delicious, and always tender. Never dry!! I also recommend the cream cheese wontons. The sesame chicken is good, and is similar to orange chicken. Then get their food. Then eat there food. We still had no food. Asked for status. All we ordered was hot tea, one order of House Lo'mein and one order of Potstickers. No way 30mins could have gone by with nothing. Waiter ran around like a mad man trying to figure it out. No one ever came and said anything. 5mins later, they said it'll take 20mins to cook the pot stickers. Sounds like no one ever put our order in. We paid for our tea we drank and left. Which by the way, should have been offered for free. But it wasn't. Instead we were grunted at and the workers got upset because we didn't want to wait anymore. Interesting how that works. Came in a few hours ago because I've heard nothing but good things about this place! It was lunch time and I had a big craving for Chinese food. Chow Mein is one of my favorite things so when I saw the house mein, I knew what I wanted. It came with chicken, shrimp and beef. It was lunch so I got it for about $8.95 I think? My mom and sister also got house mein and cashew chicken. We also got a strawberry banana boba to share. This was a to go order so I was hoping it'd still be hot by the time I got home. Got home, still piping hot. I could tell it was fresh because I could hear the chopping when we placed our order and the taste was great! The service was nice and friendly. The chow mein was delicious and has such great texture and flavor. The rice was nice and fluffy and the egg roll, AMAZING! Here's what I didn't like. It came with hot and sour soup. This wasn't that great. Sadly, I've had better hot and sour soup at Chinese buffet. The flavor just wasn't there and it was very eggy with an unpleasant smell. Other than that, I will be back. The hot and sour soup was lukewarm and the Kung Pao chicken and rice tasted like they were left over from lunch. I was expecting fresh food and it tasted like a steam table meal.
