Never again. The only reason I gave one star is because the food was hot. Beyond that, there's no reason to ever visit the place again. The madness starts with signs that dictate customer behavior. "We don't care if other places make it better. If you don't like it, NO REFUNDS, NO BUTS." No sense in repeating the other obnoxious signs. As for the food itself, there should be a picture of this joint next to the word "bland" in the dictionary. And what should be customary in the South--"thank you" was never uttered. The prices are higher, on average, than similar places in New York City. Try that one on for size... Clearly, this place gets enough business from people who must live close by and see only the convenience. Because quality, professionalism, passion for the craft, and appreciation for the customer are nonexistent. I honestly believe they don't really want any more customers. I stopped in to place a to-go order, so I can't speak for their delivery. The restaurant is bare bones, which is why I decided to take my order home. I agree with others that the service wasn't very friendly, just straightforward and busy. They seemed to be doing a steady take out business on a Tuesday night. I gave four stars not for the ambience or personalities but for the taste of the food. Got home and enjoyed both the hot sour soup and shrimp mai fun. The soup did have pork in it, which is only an issue if you're a vegetarian like myself. Now I know. The shrimp noodle dish was tasty and plentiful, definitely will be enough for at least one more meal. So overall a good choice for take out Chinese and reasonable prices. read more

I will preface this by saying that I've never actually BEEN to the restaurant before, so my experience is strictly with their delivery service. That being said, it was definitely not the best Chinese food I've never had in my life. My brother convinced me to order from here and, since there are not really that many delivery options in the area, I reluctantly agreed. The one positive about China Bell is the fact that their delivery is generally quick. We've ordered from there twice and have gotten everything in about 30 minutes, which isn't half bad. The crab rangoon is fairly decent, although a little sweet for my taste. The egg rolls are actually pretty good, but that's about where the positives end. The food is overly Americanized Chinese food. I've eaten take out Chinese MANY times in my life and never have I seen anything this sub-par. I've ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Orange Chicken, and both left me with just an eh taste in my mouth. The rice that comes with the food is pretty standard and I could probably make something better myself. The Orange Chicken was alright, but was so unbelievably sweet for some reason and had chunks of orange rind in the chicken. Fine, I understand it's Orange Chicken and everything but I bit into a piece (it was disguised as a piece of chicken) and was quite surprised to find out it was not actually chicken. Just take them out before you send it to me? I don't know, never had that happen to me before. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was ok. The sauce was pretty much just sweet, nothing sour about it. Worst service does not deserve any stars we have been ordering from here for 6 years and they have been forgetting items recently and we called and requested the missing items to be brought to us and the lady said so sorry they will be on the way, 20 minutes later we called back and was told we are not the only ones with a delivery and they are waiting for the driver to return then 20 more minutes later we called back and we spoke to the owner and he said go ahead take your business else where and don't call us anymore. read more

Unfortunately, this is the closest Chinese restaurant that does carry-out. My lady is vegetarian and I am pretty meat-conscious. We always order vegetable based meals but I'm pretty sure that the dishes at China Bell are prepared with meat broths and are not vegetarian-friendly. Now I am aware that this is a hole in the wall next to a Wal-Mart on Gallatin road in Madison, so I do not expect to be treated like the health nut that I am, but it is upsetting that regardless of what I order, I must consume animal products. There was light at the end of the tunnel, or so I thought when I ordered the "Sauteed Tofu." This was the worst tofu dish I've ever had. The tofu wasn't even cooked and it was the consistency of gelatin and there was so much sauce in the dish that I couldn't even taste the vegetables. I took a few bites and decided to either throw it away or cook it myself. The staff is friendly and helpful. Like I said before, this is a Madison restaurant and I do not expect the best, but this is awful. I don't think I will be dining at China Bell again. read more

The manager is the rudest person I've ever came across in the restaurant business, he called me stupid when I called in with an issue with the online ordering system. The food is mediocre at best. They advertise with fliers in mailboxes to areas they "don't even WANT to deliver to" aka Inglewood. The manager is unbelievably & irrationally confrontational & rude, so if you do experience a problem with your order, better get over it. I heard that the food here was very good. So being new to the neighborhood and the city inwas looking forward to getting some good food. My roommate had gotten hurt si we decided to order for delivery. The call was placed, no problem. They took the payment over the phone, no problem. The driver arrived with the food and asked for ID because a card was used to pay. My roommate presented a temporary government issued stare drivers license and the driver refused it. We called and explained the situation to the manager and she was super irate saying we were trying to steal from her. She ordered get driver to return to the store with the food telling us if we want it we'd have to present the ID in the store. Its 2 miles away... no problem. I don't understand why this place has such bad reviews. I've eaten there probably 20 times. My friends call me a foodie which I hate, but I do love food and I'm not overweight like some of the people who shouldn't be judging others on here. Being fat doesn't make you an expert on food. It means you are lazy and have a terrible diet. Delivery shouldn't be an option for you unless your sick. The food is always good and consistent here. Ordered food. got here at a reasonable time, but didn't get what was ordered. Called and told them about it and got sent to the manager. He was the one to take the order. He claimed we ordered something different but earlier on the phone he repeated our order word for word, and he had the nerve to say we were wrong. I'm not sure why this place has so many bad reviews. I've always had good food and good service from China Bell. Today I called in an order for 20 people at 3:00 to be ready at 6:00. They called me at 5:20 to let me know they were starting on it and at 6:07 to tell me it was ready because I had not showed up yet. My order was exactly as ordered. It was packaged neatly and everything was fresh and tasted great. My guests complimented the food and asked where I had ordered it from. I can't comment on the delivery service as I live out of the delivery area so I always go to pick up, but I have never had an issue and have been going here for years. read more

I will never order from here again. I ordered delivery for my family. When it arrived the tsos shrimp was burnt beyond recognition. It was unchewable, gritty, and tasted like charcoal. I called to tell them and ask if it could be remade or credit that part of the meal. He told me I didnt know what I was talking about and that I didnt know what it was supposed to taste like. He said it was their policy to not remake orders and they didnt burn food. I have been a chef for 20 years ...EVERYONE, sooner or later messes up an order. I offered to give the bad dish back if they would remake it or even bring it to them and was told no. ...we dont redo food. We don't mess up you dont know what you are talking about. My husband and I had two orders of fried rice today. Normally, the food is good, but this time the rice was gooey, clumpy and tasted funny. The carrots and peas were still crunchy. We called them and they said that they would remake it, but they did not say they were immediately remaking it. We assumed they meant that it would be remade when we got back to the restaurant with our bag and receipt. When we got there, which is a 30 minute drive from our house, it had been sitting out for over an hour and was cold. They refused to give us our money back or make it fresh, so I explained to the manager that I was not happy and wouldn't be coming back. He was rude and did not care whether he lost our business. DO NOT EAT HERE! The manager is greedy and does not care about people! This is the 2nd time we've had a problem here that they refused to fix, so we will never order from here again. Ever! read more

there is a reason why this restaurant has 2 and a half star. Food is mediocre but customer service is horrible! No refund because of policy or in the manager's words ''i just don't do that.'' Maybe if the girl at the counter would have paid more attention then they wouldn't have gotten the order wrong. Normally other restaurant would go out of their way to fix the problem but in this case the customer is ALWAYS wrong. No matter what i said it was met with an attitude. After getting the order wrong she still tried to charge me for what they forgot out! I have never been to a place where they wouldn't offer discounted or on the house. At the end of the day you want your customers to come back. It's a simple policy that a customer is always right. You get paid because people come in to eat at your establishment.
