Craved for something hot and hearty in a bitter cold Friday afternoon, so drove to China Cafe in Aurora for their authentic Northeastern dishes. As you can imagine, for a weather like this, the place was quite empty, but soon enough, other customers drifting in, ordering same hearty dishes, such as their signature pickled cabbage pot with pork, mixed veggie with pork ribs stew and yellow croaker with tofu stew. Besides the pickled cabbage pot with pork, also ordered sweet sour guo bao rou and dill with pork steamed dumplings. The pickled cabbage was crisp but tender, with a refreshing tang that wasn't overpowering. The pork belly were lean and soft. The broth balanced the sour and savory well, very flavorful and incredibly satisfying. Their sweet sour guo bao rou was among the best, if not the best, in town, perfectly fried with a crispy exterior and tender meat inside. The sweet-sour balance was spot-on, neither overly sour nor sweet and paired wonderfully with rice. Never tried their handmade dill with pork dumplings before. The skin of their Northeastern style dumplings was thin but chewy with generous fillings. The dill had a very distinctive aromatic taste but complemented the pork filling well. We also got a surprise bean curd skin dish. Everything was delicious and seasoned just right. If we had room in our stomachs, we would have finished everything. Overall 3.5 stars. I love love love their Guo Bao Rou, best out of all the places that offer this dish in the state. The Cold Clear Noodle Sesame Sauce is a bit too gooey, both texture and presentation. Anything involving "flour" is a safe bet because the chef claims to be from Northeast China, the place that makes the best dumpling skin, hand pulled noodles, scallion pancakes... you get the idea. Disappointed! We have been coming here for the last couple of years. But tonight (6/22/26) I ordered 4 entrees we have had before ($80 +). The orange chicken was so hard my wife couldn't chew it! The jalapeno beef & broccoli shrimp had the same sauce and bland! No spice or heat with the jalapenos! The shrimp were mushy and the broccoli was old. It was ALL OLD, including the rice! I have constantly been on the hunt for the perfect bowl of beef noodle soup. Lo and behold I have found it (I think). I still have a couple places in mind but the day I went to China Cafe I had no expectations. While speaking Mandarin made it easier to navigate the menu, I zero'd in on that one dish. I ended up ordering scallion pancakes and beef noodle soup. The scallion pancakes were ok. Guess I have grown accustomed to making them at home that even some restaurants are a bit off. On the flip side though, the beef noodle soup was amazing! This is a dish I grew up with so there are many nostalgic and specific flavors I actively seek. This order checked off all the boxes and definitely hit the spice level too! Flavor was certainly present but also the temperature of the broth was spot on. I dropped by at 4:30 to a smallish and quaint restaurant. By the end of my meal the entire place was packed with a good mix of people. They speculate NorthEastern 东北 dishes which is known for potstickers and bao buns. Their noodles are hand made 手工 and the artwork on the walls are very tasteful. read more

I came here for a group dinner in, we got the beef noodle soup both spicy and non spicy, the seafood tofu pot, beef roll and the pork and Napa cabbage dumplings. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the dumplings. I eat a lot of dumplings and make them from scratch at home often, but the I love the crispy skin and the flavor of the dumplings for so delicious. I would definitely order these again. The beef roll was delicious also it was very light and I loved the touch of the cucumbers. As for the beef noodle soup I liked the spicy more the the regular, but to be honest they were both a little bland still for my liking and I have had better beef noodle soup around the area. The seafood tofu pot more reminded me of chopsuey, as what my Chinese mom thought that was what it was. For me personally too salty for me, and probably wouldn't get it again. Probably the only place I know in Denver metro area that has Gua Bao Rou (Chinese sweet & sour pork) which comes with huge chunks of perfectly crispy batter fried pork covered in their yummy sweet & sour sauce. I entered the restaurant at 5pm on a Thursday with no one else inside and reviewed the menu. When I asked the hostess to seat us at a larger table (5 people, 4 in wheelchairs), she went in the back to bring out someone else. The new person tried to seat us at a smaller table so I asked why we couldn't sit at the larger table. She replied "we would have to move the chairs out of the area". I simply said that we could put the chairs against the wall but she responded "it would be too tight". I was supremely disappointed that someone would tell a customer they could not sit at a certain table (especially with no one in the restaurant) because they would be inconvenienced. read more

Really great Chinese food (I think from Dongbei). I was pleasantly surprised to find such delicious Chinese food in Colorado! We ordered a ton of food for our party and I loved: green onion pancake, some dish that was like chives/ground meat stuffed in a green onion pancake (I've never had this before but would highly recommend!!), beef chow fun. The pork fried rice tasted "burnt" according to some people but it was pretty good; I guess if you don't like the burnt taste you should avoid it. I thought the noodles (zazang + tomato beef noodle soup) were just ok. We ordered this sauerkraut stew that I think is a Dongbei speciality (suancai, maybe?) and my family really liked it a lot! I only tried a few small bites and thought it was ok, but I was already stuffed by then.
