Possibly the worst mistake I've made in choosing a dining option. The atmosphere is fine, the staff barely spoke to us. No one smiles here. Cleanliness is an issue. That carpet hasn't been cleaned in at least 2 years. The food in the trays is either cold or stale or both. The one redeeming thing about this place is the hibachi where you can choose your raw ingredients and they will cook them while you wait. My kids aren't picky eaters. They couldn't find anything to eat. Not the pizza not the noodles or the rice (usually safe options for kids). My 4 year old actually spit the pizza out. He adores pizza. I got them to eat some of the hibachi chicken I'd made. Several reviews question the prices. It's not posted anywhere. On 8/27/18 we were charged $11.25 for adults, $5.75 for kids. read more

Be alert about weird smells on the chicken or pork meat. We found stinky spoiled rotten fried chicken wing. They looked ok in the dish table but after my son put on the plate and sat in front of me, I smelled stinky smell, my son told me the chicken wing tasted and smelled weird then I smelled it, it was awful stinky chicken wing. I didn't lie, it smelled like rotten meat. We liked China Grand Restaurant but after experienced this and the very bad liar female boss (who sits in check out) we stop going there. Just be careful and beware of weird stinky smell and taste. They really hard to convince you it was not rotten food it was a good fragrance from the spices, sauces in the cooking style from the chef. Well, with Chinese Buffet's, I don't think anybody has super high expectations, so I can't imagine ever giving one a 5-star review (but who knows). My wife and family and I have been the China Grand Buffet many times over the years. Some nights it's pretty good (like maybe approaching a 4-star). Tonight, however, it wasn't that good. Things were kind of greasy compared to the past, and just not very fresh. More like a 2-star experience. So, for this review, I'm splitting the difference and giving them a 3! I decided to take a chance and explore the food options. I enjoyed the pineapple chicken, and most of their chicken options. All the food I tried was really good, and I was surprised because the cost is low in regards to a buffet. The quality of customer service was really good. The employees were always there to make sure you had a refill of your drink and made sure plates didn't pile up on the table. I would recommend this place for those who just love Chinese food. A very enjoyable experience for me! I grew up eating at Chinese buffets and this felt like my childhood to me. Quite surprised they had chickens feet on the buffet line. It's a speciality dish that's standard at dim sum restaurants and here is the only place I've seen them. The quality of the food is good for what you're paying to get in. They offer standard Chinese buffet options and had a good selection of things to try. Pretty cleanly inside as well and a nice place to hang out and get your fill. My husband was put off the last time we ate here because there was a hair (definitely not his) in his food. I still love the coconut shrimp, crab rangoon and variety of desserts. This was my first time at Grand China Buffett (I'm not usually a buffet fan) but it was one of the only options for dinner at 9pm on Fairview. We had a large group and buffets make it easy to please mostly everyone. There are soooooo many options to choose from it is literally overwhelming. I may have to go back several times and continue updating my review. Considering it was after 9pm the restaurant was VERY busy! The staff was doing their best to keep up and refill but there were several things that I would have liked to try that were empty. Apparently there was a BUS full of people from WA that stopped for dinner so the bathroom with only two stalls was very busy and the buffet lines were a little chaotic. So many choices... Sushi, salad bar, a wall of soups, a teppanyaki cook, mashed potatoes, seafood of ALL kinds, crab rangoons, veggie and pork egg rolls, pot stickers, pizza, peanut butter chicken, desserts, ice cream... Etc My highlights were the peanut butter chicken, coconut shrimp, crab rangoons and the noodle and veggie dish that the chef prepared for me. I steered clear of the desserts because the ice cream cabinet was looking SCARY! I'm hoping that it was due to high volume of customers and the time of night. I don't eat sushi wish seaweed (soy paper only) but everyone else at my table ate it by the plate full. Theres is a wide variety of foods to enjoy so you wont have to stop after one plate because you filled it up with only a couple of things to your liking. Even the sushi here is very good and they have a wide variety. Grand China Buffet has become a family tradition after select Sunday church services. I'm not a big Buffet person unless you put me in a casino. And part of that is because of clientele and cleanliness. Keeping those two things in mind, GCB earns a solid four stars from me. When I first visited, I was surprised to find several choices for dim sum, from custard buns to pork and chicken shu mai. That was enough to earn three stars from me, because this is Boise, after all, and dim sum is nearly impossible to come by. My husband likes their stir fry bar, my stepson likes their chicken feet, and my stepdaughter likes their broccoli salad. I like the stir-fried green beans, crab rangoons, and egg tarts. There's something here for everyone. The staff is polite and efficient, and the prices are very reasonable for the variety of food available. They do have crab from time to time - but it's gone about as fast as they put it out, and the legs are spindly without a lot of meat in them. They also have sushi, but it's not the reason I would come here. As others have mentioned, the bathrooms are gross. They need to be deep cleaned. But from personal experience I have seen people in there solely to wash their hands before eating. There are tons of kids, and there are others who look like they shouldn't be eating in a public place (or wearing a mask while doing so), but in all the Sundays I've eaten here with two kids of our own, none of us have ever gotten sick. (Insert George Carlin's bit about germs here. This could be your own Hudson River!) If you're into buffets, this is one of the best in Boise. read more
