Well... I think we may have come during a slower time, hoping for a quick bite. Unfortunately, the initial impression wasn't the strongest--there was no greeting when we walked in, which stood out right away. We were seated immediately, though, and the space itself was calm, low-key, and peaceful since it wasn't very crowded. The buffet wasn't fully stocked, with smaller portions available in each section, but the food itself was good overall. Nothing really stood out as a "wow" moment, but it was still a decent meal. Overall, the experience was a bit underwhelming, but not bad enough to keep us from giving it another try. This was really great for a buffet. I mean it was exactly as I expected but the food was actually pretty good quality and the price was excellent. Server was very nice and constantly filled our waters. This was their saving grace, the server. Where to start, the broccoli and pork when eating parts of broccoli were cold still. The green beans were not all the way cooked. I took some baked chicken but it was slimy and pink. The ambiance was very quiet. The plates were dirty. There were bugs flying around. I haven't been her for a year or two and they have done an amazing job at bettering the food and service here. I can for lunch on Chinese new year by myself and go right in. Fresh meat on buffet and plenty space to sit. Busy spot for workers to come in at lunch. Buffet was 11$ no drink for all you can eat. This place is improved. It was cleaner and food was better than I remembered in the past. The price for lunch is cheap, the service is friendly. Part of the restaurant did have boxes stacked all over, so not much on ambiance, but its your typical Chinese buffet fare. I would have given another star if there were seafood options. read more

have been here 4 times and this is my last time. Any items that are favorites they don't replenish. They will let 1 price, that no one wants sit on the buffet for the entire time of your visit. Everything we visit someone gets diarrhea hours later. Today I found out why. They had several chicken items out that were all room temperature. When I decided to request hot chicken on the stick, I was told that they were cooking some more. 10 minutes later they brought out some burned up chicken on the stick. This was t he cold chicken that they re-cooked. I wish someone from the health department would make a visit because I know that hot food has to be kept at a certain temperature and they should never be recooked and put back on the buffet. I wish I could leave a picture of the overcooked reserved chicken. And let's not speak of the bathroom with no soap, tissue all over the floor. There are hundreds of Chinese buffets that are much much better than thus one. Do yourself a favor and visit one of them please. read more

The price was very reasonable for the big selection they offered. I would recommend the sushi be made fresh instead of just sitting there on ice looking unappealing. There weren't many workers, but the 1 server/cashier they did have ensured that our drinks were filled at all times. The space size is ok, and there is room to walk through comfortably. It was uncomfortably humid inside so I stayed away from the 12 dried out pieces of sushi and the fish which left me with like literally 6 other food options because everything else was either an empty tray, dried out, or super sketch. I had about 6 items on my plate to try because I wanted to give it a chance. I love buffets and always make it a point to finish the food on my plate before going for 2nds but the food was so awful I left my plate as is and skipped the 2nd round. I did, however enjoy the ice cream cups and sandwiches. I mean, how could you mess up pre packaged cups? My husband and I left the restaurant feeling confused and disappointed. We knew going in that the food would not be amazing but we expected better service. If you like good Chinese food or are introducing someone to it I'd pass this buffet. On both variety and quality China House lacks. Its selection of around 50 food items during lunch contrasts with 75 to over 100 at other buffets. That meant only one lo mein on the buffet (veggie, with tasteless noodles and very few veggies), no egg foo yung or moo goo gai pan, and a virtual lack of seafood and shellfish. Lettuce was available but other salad ingredients were missing except dressings. Most food items looked tired and I wondered how many were reheated. Vegetable fried rice was dry and also looked reheated. The same for fried chicken and pork on a stick. Sushi rolls were poorly formed and fell apart as I picked them up. Chicken or beef with broccoli were stand-outs but mostly due to the gravy/sauce keeping the meat moist. Few food trays were identified and some were misidentified. During the pandemic gloves were provided to be used at the serving trays. However, instructions and gloves were placed in an easily overlooked spot and diners missed them. Staff, by comparison, didn't use gloves (though wore masks) when replacing drinks. read more

I thought I was going to die once. Turns out, it was just food poisoning. Shortly after I was lured into a Chinese buffet for lunch by my office mates, we all ended up as sick as dogs. I felt deathly ill for several days and it was several weeks before I felt fully recovered. We found out later that the health department closed the place down in the afternoon after we visited. To this day, I do whatever I can to avoid Chinese buffets. However, Hubby suggested this one and I'm a team player so I tried to make the best of it. I found several items that weren't fried on the buffet, including sushi and shrimp. Scary choice for me. Hmmm, raw fish from a Chinese buffet or fried food from same? Well, I ate sushi and shrimp from this buffet and survived to tell about. The Sunday buffet was $10 but don't quote me on that. Hubby saw pictures of crab legs online but there were no crab legs on the buffet during our visit. I found sauteed green beans which were decent and the butter potatoes were positively okay as well. I'm guessing that 90% of the buffet was fried. The sushi wasn't bad. Nothing was labeled but it looked like they were mostly Uramaki rolls. Decent variety of desserts but nothing really jumped out at me. There is also a small floor freezer filled with ice cream cups and ice cream sandwiches. CHINA HOUSE just recently opened up a very few months ago. It has become a favorite of mine and now friends and family. It is located across from Bass Pro at 5th St. and Hwy 70 in St. Charles. The food choices for the weekday $6.50 lunch buffet are incredible. You can have a huge fresh salad, a fresh fruit plate, multiple delish entrees and yummy deserts for just $ 6.50 ( Is this even possible?) The food and deserts are not standard buffet fare. It's better. You also get decent atmosphere for a shopping center restaurant, and the wait staff is very efficient and FRIENDLY. They work their tails off and I try to show my appreciation with a good tip, usually about 30% ( that's just me - I feel guilty getting all that food so CHEAP!). Very tasty, appealing food. My wife loves the place - and she is HARD TO PLEASE, lol. (she can't keep her hands or mouth off the Hong Kong pastries, they're yummy). This has been a pleasant surprise and a real find. I will be honest, I'm really picky. The service was good, it's a buffet, they were very happy to get us drinks and went through the beer list. My biggest complaint with this place is that I'm not a huge fan of buffets and we were not given the option to order from the menu plus the buffet was expensive. I don't eat $9.00 worth of food so it really isn't worth it for me. I'm pretty sure a guy at a table across the room from us ate his share as well as our share. So it all works out in the end, right? I guess the bonus of a buffet is that you can taste everything that looks good and then you know what to order off the menu next time. As for the buffet it was huge! However, the food was mediocre. Not bad, just not awesome. I really liked the chicken and mushroom dish a lot. The chicken and broccoli was good and if you like lo mein go for it! The rest of it was not my cup of tea. There was a lot to choose from so I'm sure you will find something you like. The crab rangoon was just ok and so were the egg rolls. I love crab rangoon and if they are not good, I'm not totally happy. There were desserts, sushi and American items on the buffet. The other reviewers love this place so give it a try. Would NOT waste my time and visit this restaurant EVER again. I live about 25 minutes away from this restaurant and got there about 2 hours before closing. Once we got there the lady at the front desk asked us to have a look at what was left at the buffet because they would not be putting anymore fresh food out. There wasn't very many options. Anything that was left looked very old and there was lots of empty pans. Of course we did not choose to stay and pay for that garbage. I will give one star for the honesty, even though they probably only did because this has caused many issues in the past. We felt sorry for the people left in the restaurant who would not get anymore fresh food for two hours. All in all this was a major waste of our time, and their unwillingness to put out fresh food with 2 hours remaining is unreasonable and unacceptable. I was only in town visit my family and they are a bunch of haters, so I highly doubt that I will ever get to go back here again, but I was actually pretty pleased with what I ate here and I heard some people got food poising here a long time ago, but I didn't even get an upset stomach from my recent trip. There are some things to contend with: 1) Odd placement of foods, some random meats are placed with the desserts. 2) Not actually that much Chinese food for a China House Buffet. They didn't even have any fried rice at all, only steamed. 3) Not much in the way of seafood, my Aunt only eats fish and they hardly, I think only 2 seafood dishes, both shellfish. The things that were good: 1) The American food was very good, I would come here just for the fried chicken and fried potatoes. 2) Most Chinese buffets have a little bit of sushi but they had a great variety, I think 5 different rolls. 3) Great dessert selection, if they have 40 items 20 of them have to be dessert if you include all the sweet fruit, so I probably at that stuff the most. read more

I am not typically a negative person, but I'm sorry this was absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. We paid $85 plus tip and I did tip because it wasn't the service it was the food itself. 2 of my grandkids wouldn't eat anything after tasting it, my husband and I sort of picked at it trying to find something that was good, but nothing. 4 of the 5 grandkids got the bathroom problems after leaving. I am just so incredibly disappointed on the amount of money we spent for such terrible food. We could have gone to any other restaurant and spent a little more for a much better experience. June 19, 2021 3 PM. No AC. But that is not the only reason for 1 star. Of the 4 serving tables, one was empty. The food was tough and hard to chew, wedging between my teeth. They use styrofoam plates 7". Put very little in it or it will break and fall. Some food was Luke warm. Went to get ice cream sandwich, but they were soft and not worth unwrapping. And yes, there was no air conditioning on a 92f day. I do not like to sweat when I eat. Had enough of that when I was in Vietnam. It was good to be treated like mature adults though. No mask, served our own food. But I will find another buffet, for sure not eating there. read more

Visiting Bass Pro shop? A word of advice is DO NOT eat here! This was our frst visit to this buffet and it was a mistake. Be prepared to get ill if you choose to take your chances. My first clue should have been the salad dressing in bottles at the end of the salad bar, not being chilled at all. Opened the top and could see the dried dressing around the spout indicating it had been out awhile. The general chicken didn't have any flavor and the texture was off, difficult to even explain but I knew I shouldn't eat it. All food was room temp at best. I was afraid to eat anything else. My husband tried a few different things, none of it was good or hot. He has been sick and in the bathroom every half hour for the past 6 hours. Atmosphere-waitress was okay, hostess not friendly. Seating very worn with cracks. Seats are mixed and matched. I had to sit on the edge of my seat to sit properly at the table, seats did not go with the tables. Restrooms filthy. General Chicken C+ Good flavor, but noting special Crispy Chicken B- Good flavor, first I've seen this as an option Fried Rice B Great flavor Crab Rangoon C+ To heavy on the cream cheese, not enough crab flavor Egg Roll C- Wasn't cooked(fried) long enough Hot and Sour Soup D No hot and no sour.
