If you're a visual person, you'd probably not want to eat here. The food and service are good. Cleanliness could use a lot of work. The carpet looks like it hasn't been touched in years (in need of a desperate steam clean). The windows were in horrid shape. The tables and seating were wonky and in need of an update. Great spot and ambience. Family friendly and very reasonably priced lunch for the over 80 items in selections which I was impressed about. Food was refilled constantly and hot. Waiters went around frequently to check on tables and refilled drinks. As a Chinese connoisseur this place is absolutely disgusting. The service is very dry and horrible like the chicken foam plates at the Buffet I literally chipped a tooth on the chicken. This place is very good for people. They have no pallets in their mouth. Why does this place even get a three star it shouldn't even get a one just being fair and honest. Anything else we would like to add lack of seasoning overall it's not even worth the 1199 for lunch. I would hate to be here for dinner the first Chinese restaurant that did not bring fortune cookies with the ticket not to mention the whole place needs to be revamped and a new cook in the back. Ended up swinging by New China Buffet because some coworkers and I wanted Chinese and this place was close by. Back in the day, this place was pretty good, but I had not been here in 5+ years. This place did not hold up well at all. I think I have had better tasting food from elementary school cafeterias. The building also had a bit of a rotten food smell to it. The food was also just warm, which I found disappointing. I did almost put this place to two stars since I did enjoy the Crab Rangoon; however, I was extremely disappointed so one star it is. My Aunt and I decided to got to the New China Buffet on Tuesday, April 3rd 2018. We were walking in with high hopes but unfortunately it did not fill them. Many of the items were lukewarm and others were cold. Steam can be seen coming the tables but they weren't warming the food up much. Other than the cold food, it was okay food. Nothing really special but some items were tasty. There were many different things on Buffet but nothing stood out as amazing. The price is $10.99 per person, working in the restaurant business I know that isn't bad for "all you can eat" but my aunt thought different. The buffet had a good amount of people coming in and out, so they must doing something right for some people. 5 sections of food hot/ cold Crab legs were juicy but small, and just the right seasoning because it wasn't too salty. Buffet dinner was like $11 or so a person which was the best we could find in St Louis given the other buffet someone told us was good with seafood was $16/17 a pop. Selection was decent and ice cream is real ice cream about 5 flavors. We killed the crab legs and loved how the restaurant doesn't wait until we leave to refill the dishes but refills when it is really out. Restaurant was not pack and fit our 17 seater group kids and all. We were happy with service which is good they cleaned up plates and refilled drinks, very attentive. read more

We've been eating here pretty much every weekend for around 5 years now, with the exception of the few months they had to close because of the ridiculous "lockdowns": we were really afraid the lockdowns would kill them, but they made it through, much to our joy! New China is a medium sized American style "Chinese" buffet. I put "Chinese" in quotes because I grew up in New York, so I know the difference between *actual* Chinese food and the American look-alikes. This is definitely a lookalike, with all of the hallmarks (for example, Crab Rangoon, which is just a Midwest thing, and definitely NOT Chinese). Despite the look-alike status, the food is very inexpensive, and usually pretty good - every once in a while the food will be made by a new cook, and it can really suck if they blow it, but that's pretty rare here. The selections on the buffet are pretty good, with 4 food islands filled up. Surprisingly, this budget buffet has some medium-end dishes available, such as medium sized peel & eat shrimp. a huge slab of salmon whitefish (it changes) to enjoy; Crab legs (an extra couple of dollars per pound); mussels; etc. My only complaint tends to be the people who come in with very young children, and who let their kids run amok - throwing food all over the place (and almost always leaving it for the servers to clean up: not classy!), and running around screaming at ALL of the tables. I get that this is a family place, but that doesn't mean that parents should allow their kids to destroy everyone else's meal time. I mention this because it seems to be a problem which is peculiar to this one place: it happens a lot on certain days (weekends) and at certain times (afternoons). If this were New York City, the kids would be slapped senseless by the first table they annoyed, but here in Missouri that isn't allowed, and the owners refuse to ban the bad parents and their spawn for misbehaviour. Maybe, when I find out I have but a few weeks to live, I'll indulge myself and spend a day smacking some of these miscreant kids and their miscreant parents! I would *really* enjoy that! The food is *very* reasonably priced, and the serve staff is generally good to excellent, despite it being a buffet environment. We highly recommend New China! read more

Over the years New China has wavered in quality regarding there food. After taking a long break from going there my girlfriend and I gave them another chance. We are glad that we did. It seems that the quality of cooking has gone up significantly. Dishes of note of are the Egg Foo Young, Black Pepper Chicken and Spicy Chicken. Every time we have went all of the dishes were filled with fresh selections and the servers are attentive to refill your drink/clear plates. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I'm not a picky eater. Nor am I anything close to a foodie. (Ask the generic cereal I had for dinner last night). But I expect my food to be edible. This was not. At dinner tonight, coupon in hand, I was ready to gorge myself on endless helpings of really good bad-for-you Chinese food. Maybe the beef Broccoli was Chinese. My assumption, if it was, is that it was actually cooked in China and it's been in a slow-cooker on a boat for two months before it arrived in our fair city because I can think of no other explanation for the mushy and pungent flavor of this dish. The crab legs were about at thick as my toothbrush and most of them had about two bites of tough and acidic meat. The coconut shrimp tasted like what Hawaiian Tropic might taste like. The BBQ chicken has to have been made from scraps. It was all fat. The crab Rangoon tasted like it was not only imitation crab but imitation cheese fried in imitation oil. The rice was dry. The sweet and sour chicken was tough, chewy and the sauce was the consistency warm Vaseline and didn't taste much better. Trying to get all these bad tastes out of my mouth I went to the safest thing I could find: Jello. But even that tasted wrong. Like really, really wrong. How do you mess up Jello?? They managed to. The best part of the meal was the prewrapped fortune cookies. I hoped when I broke it open it would contain a coupon for Tums. But it just said I had an opportunity coming my way. And I believe that opportunity is to direct all my fellow bargain meal hunters to a less bad place. They usually have a decent crowd at lunchtime. There are about 4 buffet tables - salads, desserts, rice-noodles and entrees, and appetizer-like foods (rangoon, eggrolls, etc). Selection is decent, food is OK, service is nice. Drinks stay filled, dirty plates are quickly cleared. Some of the foods they had at lunch were: boneless spare ribs, General Tso's Chicken, chicken on a stick, crab rangoon, steamed dumplings, eggrolls, honey chicken, beef and broccoli, shrimp and (imitation) crab, mushroom chicken. We did see some people getting take-out boxes to fill up at the buffet. We couldn't tell if they charged by the container or by the pound. Nice buffet with a good selection of different types of foods. They even have more than just Chinese items, they have garlic bread, some little cakes for dessert, fried chicken of different sorts (I didn't try any of them but they had breaded fried chicken, and others in different sauces), french fries, and fried potatoes with seasoning which was actually pretty good. I moved out of state 9 years ago and I finally came back here. After trying all the Chinese Buffets, I think this one is the best! The food is awesome, the service is even better. I love the General Tso's Chicken , black pepper Chicken and the Beef with Broccoli. And the dish that I love the most is BBQ chicken. All the food are fresh and juicy. You also have so many choices on the dessert, like cookies, brownies and ice cream. Although the restaurant is a little bit old, it is cleaned up very well. Visited again for the dinner buffet. On a Thursday evening around 8:30. Broke one of my rules and went to a buffet within 2 hours of closing. This buffet was still well stocked with fresh food. Same great buffet like my previous visit. The only negative is that the dinner buffet costs more. Usually this means they put out the more expensive food. They were a couple of different dishes but most were the same. Better for me to visit it for lunch instead of dinner. Disappointed that they didn't have the fried wonton.
