I ordered lunch for a coworker and made a simple mistake. I tried to have that mistake corrected less than 1 min after placing the order but I was told it was too late. That's some pretty awful customer service. They could have made the change for me and kept a customer, but over $8, they will lose more revenue long term since I won't spend my hard earned $ there again. Maybe their soup and noodles are better than meat and vegetable entrees. The portions are large, unless you live in the neighborhood and don't want to drive. Mostly the food was overcooked, the meat chewy. We ordered the black bean spare rib special, bitter melon with beef, and spicy eggplant. If you grew up eating authentic Asian food, you might want to skip this place. If you didn't, and aren't as selective for refined textures, then you'll likely be content with a meal here. We go to Novato occasionally for business and too bad we hadn't discover this place sooner. Wonderful food, everything is cooked to order, very reasonable prices. Being Chinese American probably makes us more critical of Chinese food, esp. out in the burbs....my mother, who lives near San Francisco Chinatown, loves their food. Our go to dishes are the Beef Tofu, and the Braised Fish Fillet. They even have hard to find dishes like Bitter Melon. The whole restaurant seems to be run entirely by the husband and wife team, their two kids are sometimes there doing homework...we actually quite enjoy the kids there as they are so adorable and even helpful with little requests like more napkins. Minus 1/2 star for the outdated décor, but the quality of food and the service puts it back up to 5 stars! read more

I like this little place. They give me my soda can in a little plastic bag when I order online, which I find strange and endearing. The lady who works the register always recites my order back to me when I come to pick up food, which is awkward because I can never remember what I got. It's turned out to be my food every time, though. I know this place is family run because there's always a couple of kids coloring quietly and staring at me intently when I come in. We were looking for another Chinese restaurant (with no MSG) not too far from where we bought a home. Who can afford to eat out after buying a home almost anywhere in Marin, right? Kidding aside, besides the affordability of a meal at China House Restaurant, we do get great service at this friendly Mom & Pop run restaurant. The Kung Pao Chicken was terrific in comparison to good Kung Pao Chicken I have had elsewhere. The Szechuan Shrimp was cooked properly and the sauce had the right amount of spice and flavor. We really like their sautéed Deluxe Vegis and hot and spicy eggplant. I am anxious to try the one of the chow fun dishes next time. read more

This little place is without a doubt the best Chinese food not only in Novato but also in Marin County. The menu is extensive, portions are large.and prices are reasonable, You can order anything on the menu even during lunch though they have a large lunch special menu. I was desperately hungry, bound this place and gave it a try. Mistake. It's basically a take-out place. It has a few tables but it's not particularly inviting, comfortable or even clean. Service is terrible, as it seems run by a family that is focused on the phone and dealing with take out customers. I'd forgive all of that if the food was good, but it wasn't. many, many years ago, i ate at this place and remembered how great and authentic they were. today, we had the chance to go back there to get take out and wow, best/most authentic chinese food in all of novato, hands down! we could hardly resist the smell that was wafting through the car from our take-out bags! we got crab puffs (best crab puffs ever where you can actually see chunks of crab, very generous stuffing), beef chow mein, general tso's chicken, and hot and spicy eggplant. everything was super delicious and very generous portions! the search is over as far as we're concerned. this will definitely be our chinese restaurant any time we have a craving for awesome, authentic chinese food that leaves you wanting more! looking forward to our next visit! thank you!!! read more

Average to above average chinese food with probably the lowest prices in Novato. Quick and convenient. You can order online however they do not have their dinner appetizers listed or soups. Annoying. Also, the prices and family dinner specials online differ from the actual prices. They seem to not care to fix it as I've told them a couple of times. I'll continue using them as long as their prices stay low. As soon as they double like everyone else this will be a dead restaurant to me. I recently moved to Novato, and was thrilled to discover excellent Chinese food nearby. I've only eaten take-out at China House. Almost everything has been excellent - light, flavorful, good quality meat, and lots of vegetables. Nothing has been too heavy or greasy. The only thing I've had that wasn't excellent was the potstickers (a bit bland the one time I tried them). Although the decor is laughably bad (pink dinosaurs lounging with cocktails?!? seriously?!?), the food is great. I pretty much grew up in novato and it wasn't till a few months back that I decided I'd drop in to this place that I always walk or drive by. I've never had the chance to eat and sit inside but I've gotten my orders to go. I love the lunch special which is the entree with either, steamed rice, fried rice, or chow mein and the appetizer of the day, no soup though but that's fine because it's plenty of food anyway. The food is definitely delicious! Very very fresh and I've even been inside when the fresh green veggies are being prepped by what I'm assuming is the owner, a nice kind woman who sometimes has her two kids in there politely doing homework. I'm mainly a broccoli beef kinda guy but I have tried other dishes in there as well so I can say they're very much delicious and love that the food isn't greasy. I'm also pretty sure I recall seeing a sign in the restaurant saying no MSG is used so that's always a plus. Basically I wish I had come inside this place sooner. I came here with 2 of my friends for lunch on a Friday so we can try new food instead of us eating the same old food we were eating for a week at another restaurant. We ordered Rice, Cashew chicken, Sweet and sour chicken & Mongolian beef. Out of the food we ordered, I loved how tender the Mongolian beef was! We asked Siri what is the best Chinese food in town and it delivered! We drive by it often but never noticed it. We are fans of hot & sour soup and got that, as well as the green bean chicken and BBQ prom fried rice. The only drawback may be a bit too salty, but other than that, everything was very flavorful!
