This time, we got a chicken lo mein combination meal, crab rangoons, steamed dumplings, and wonton soup. The lo mein had a lot of onions, but not really enough chicken. The fried rice wasn't quite flavorful enough. My partner added soy sauce. The dumplings were just OK. It was a very thick dough and a little amount of very congealed meat, that kept falling out of the pocket. It came with a sauce that was basically just a soy sauce. Would Have loved something a bit sweeter and vinegary for a sauce. The crab rangoons were honestly even better than I remembered them being last time. Perfect sweet to Salty ratio, perfect crisp. Still wish they came with a plum sauce instead of the giant tub of bright red sweet and sour sauce. And the wonton soup was pretty good. The soup itself didn't have much flavor, but I actually liked the wontons themselves a lot better than the other dumplings. read more

The food at China King is banging depending on the day you go; I've found Thursday to be the best. My go to menu items are the Chicken & Broccoli combo and the Boneless Spareribs with Pork Fried Rice combo. The egg roll is probably my favorite part about ordering from here because always crispy and never greasy! All combo items include the egg roll but I definitely recommend grabbing one if you choose something else. Pickup is quick and they're pretty generous with sauces. The service is friendly. read more

I forgot about this place since I moved out of Hartford. Love the hibachi meals and I got the shrimp egg foo young. The next day I wanted more of the shrimp hibachi. They have a bigger sit down place now on one side of the restaurant (left side). The ladies who were cooking and prepping are very nice. read more

Deliver time was estimated to be 5:37-5:52 pm. I called and they said that the driver was here (5:55) they actually arrived at 6:20 pm. Iced tea kind of weird in it was in a food container - no ice, not cold and was sweet tea which it didn't show when I ordered so I threw it out. Food was warm but not hot. The food isn't terrible, but the customer service is AWFUL. They missed 1/2 of my order - we're talking entrees - and when I called them to see if they could fix their mistake I was told I was lying, that they specifically remember putting my items in the bag and the delivery driver must have stolen it. The bag was sealed... they forgot, which totally happens and I wasn't that upset about the forgetting, but the sheer rudeness and unwillingness to correct it not only ruined dinner, made it clear I won't order from them again. The taste of the food wasn't bad, the experience however, was terrible. We ordered veggie chow mein and beef low mein. The lo mein came as ordered, however the chow mein came as a soup. Simply steamed onion, cabbage, mushrooms, and snow peas in a clear broth. They threw in a side of steamed rice. When we called and asked why the chow mein didn't have noodles in it we went round and round with the employee about whether or not the dish was SUPPOSED to have noodles. She insisted chow mein never has noodles, at any Chinese restaurants... The employee then told us they have this issue all the time with chow mein orders but offered no apology nor any credit of any kind. Additionally, when the food delivery man arrived he called and argued with me about having to park his car and get in the elevator to deliver the food to our door. I have included a photo of our "chow mein" and also a screenshot of what the internet says chow mein should be... Edit: we found crispy Frito chip style small noodles in a side bag that may have been intended for our chow mein soup. Scientists have recently confirmed that over 60% of the world's oil reserves can now be found inside of China King's egg rolls. Holy crap you could butter corn with this limp, soggy thing. But other than that excessively greasy mishap, nice job. Still rocking that good fried rice which has not been tinted canary yellow like the rest of the universe. Good entrees, good soup, very cheap. Had three meals delivered for $21. And I gotta say, I think the guy came in 25 minutes after I ordered. Granted, he made me come to him sitting in his car (it's Hartford, I get it), but the order was hot, correct, and cheap. No delivery fee, so a $4 tip well earned. Is it the best Chinese food around? Ehh, maybe not so much. Is it the best (and one of the only) Chinese food that delivers to my apartment? SURE IS! I order here a couple times a year when my husband is in the mood for junky Chinese food, and while it makes me feel like garbage afterward, the flavor is often pretty good. We go for the sesame noodles (actually very tasty), General Tso (standard), and crab rangoon (can't go wrong). Delivery tends to be fairly quick compared to other restaurants in the same vicinity. Ordered multiple times. I normally get Dumplings and Pork Fried Rice. Both tasted great especially when fresh. However, on the rare occasion where I ordered the House Tea, I get horribly sick after drinking fresh or after refrigerating it. The best hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint in the area, and there are a few. Make no mistake, you will NOT be dining in. I think it has two tables, and at least one will be full of the staff's children. Even if you could sit, the cramped quarters, loud noise, and oft-terrifying locals will not encourage a long stay. Get it to go, or deliver. That said, the food is surprisingly good, given the relatively low prices. Their kung pao chicken is better than a lot of sit-down places, and they use quality rice. I've tried about half a dozen of their entrees and they ranged from 'decent' to 'really good.' Considering the cheap prices and lightning service, I'll bump it up to four stars. I love this place. The Chinese food hear reminds me of Brooklyn's Chinese food. Just the right about of seasoning and salt in everything. Also if you order through yelp 24 the food gets delivered really fast to you. I ordered the hibachi vegetables with tofu and my husband hibachi steak. I got mine with noodles and he had rice. We also got various condiments. It was almost as good as the fancy hibachi place we go to in Southington and it was 20 dollars including 2 drinks and the tofu vegetable soup which was great. I've ordered from here every time I'm in town. I grew up in Hartford and have always ordered from China King. I've tried to eat other places but keep coming back here for delivery. They have great customer service skills and their drivers are always friendly. The food was so cheap the lady who works there was very nice, my lunch was $5.10 but I only brought in $5 cash and I was going to go back to my car to get her 10 more cents but she said don't worry about it. My lunch was so cheap and I had the chicken low mien omg I was not expecting my $5 lunch to be this delish. Fried rice was super tasty and not greasy like other Chinese places. Hole in the wall take out only Chinese place in the West End. I always judge a Chinese place by it's crab rangoons and theirs are the best out of the ha;lf dozen or so Chinese restaurants in the area. Also try the cold seasame noodles (ask for spicy). The chicken wings are also great. I don't know if they are marinated or not but they are always moist and very tasty. Definitely give it a try if your in the area and need to pick up some take out. read more

I chose this on grub hub based solely on the Yelp reviews. All I can say is... Disappointed. I ordered the dragon and Phoenix. The shrimp was small, Insignificant, and smothered in onions and a bland sauce. The chicken on the other hand was overly battered and over cooked. The sauce they drowned it in couldn't save the dryness they created by neglecting the sad bird. The same goes for the teriyaki chicken skewers I ordered. I don't know what the hype is about this place. The food is bland, the beef teriyaki is just thin pieces of dry over cooked beef on sticks. The pork fried rice was very, very bland. The pepper steak was good but it seems they use a whole onion for one small plate hence less beef. The boneless ribs are either very dry rubbery pieces or pieces that are just fat. I ordered on a Monday for delivery they said 30 minutes it took over an hour. Try New Park number 1 for good Chinese takeout, they just don't open on mondays. read more

My go to for Chinese delivery. Yes, it is not a fancy Chinese restaurant. Yes, you are not getting amazing quality. However, for the price and a graduate student budget, the quality and portions are excellent!!! I usually order the general tso combo (comes with an egg roll and pork fried rice) and a crab rangoon appetizer to split with the other people I'm ordering with. I've never had a bad experience yet and I've ordered more than I'd like to say. I like that they also give you some broccoli with the general tso. I usually have enough food that I have lunch for the next two days. For $8, it's the best deal around.
