Visiting from out of state and having eaten occasionally at Sun Sun since 2004, was surprised to see the new faces at the counter. Placed a big order for our family and sat down with the jasmine tea in the familiar dining room, then browsed yelp. Wow, lots of recent 1 star reviews... Well, the dishes were excellent! We had vegetable fried rice with egg, house/beef chow fun, general tso, shrimp with lobster sauce, pepper steak, and steamed salmon. During a very busy time ~12 years ago, I used to call the original owner and request a catering platter of "vegetable fried rice with egg" - across several weeks. The Sun Sun version of vegetable fried rice is not available anywhere else, and it's hard to describe- it's full of veggies, not salty or oily, with a hint of wok hei. Customize it with egg. The flavor was 100% the same, same chef. I highly recommend it. read more

For decades, Sun Sun was the ONLY place to get Chinese food around here. We moved away in 2020 and have never found another restaurant to compare. Well, sad to say that today's Sun Sun doesn't compare to the pre-2020 Sun Sun. We just ordered 4 meals and an appetizer to take home. Each meal should have come with an egg roll. There were NO egg rolls in the bag. Each meal should have come with a fortune cookie. There were only 3 cookies. The two orders of chicken with broccoli were bland. Daughter ended up dousing hers with soy sauce. Granddaughter wouldn't eat her chicken in orange sauce as she said it didn't taste right. The teriyaki beef sticks were tough and fatty. Well, I guess all good things eventually come to an end. I suspect the original owners have handed the restaurant over to the kids, who are running it differently. Ordered pork fried rice lacked flavor and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while before being served. The person who took my order said it would be done in 10/15 , but it was done in five minutes and has been sitting under their counter until I arrived. I understand that this is the only Chinese spot in town however making rice is the easiest dish however it had no flavor take some time to add seasoning. read more

I've had it a few times recently and wanted to keep giving them another chance - tried different things but just not as good. The portions were generous. The menu has specials for lunch 12-3 pm. I got chicken with string beans over rice. I had it spicy and it was so delicious to eat. The menu is very diverse and they have a dining room next door that you can sit and eat in. It was clean and I will visit again. read more

THIS IS NOT CHINESE FOOD, LOL. THIS WAS AWFUL! Sun Sun in South Windsor... Just can't let this go. My favorite Chinese was closed yesterday so I went to Sun Sun. I have never had a worse take out in my life. The Tsos Chicken was horrible. All tiny pieces, mostly crust, no soft meat inside, all cooked like shoe leather and required minutes of chewing for each and every piece. It hurt my teeth. The sauce was nothing like Tsos sauce, it actually tasted more like store bought pork bbq sauce. I can't even exaggerate how tough and dry every last piece was. Then the "Shrimp fried Rice" was yellow rice with no noticable flavoring, with a few shrimp thrown in and some chunks of onion. The worst part was the Spring Roll, obviously frozen and refried. The outside was soft and oily, the inside had no texture at all, no crunch, no distinct textures or flavors, maybe overcooked but just more like a paste of ingredients rather than separate pieces of flavor as they are supposed to be. So disappointed. With this lack of attention, I can't even accept that this was a one-off issue. This is how they cook and present "Chinese" food, but other than the ingredients being chicken (I think, more like leather) and rice, there was nothing even relatable to what we call "Chinese food" here in the States... it was awful. How the mighty have fallen. Just as the Roman Empire once collapsed , so has Sun Sun. This used to be the OG 25 years ago and even up to about 10 years ago was still fine, but whatever they did the last 5-10 years has been a slow crash to where it is now. The food is nothing of what it used to be. I'd say this is now one of the consistently worst Chinese places around. The only place I have found that is close to the old school Sun Sun is in Manchester called "Ruby", thank god for them. And Yang Zi Jiang in Vernon a close second. read more

Sun Sun is my parent's "go to" Chinese spot for take out and since they do not drive anymore, I pick up their orders. The quality of the food is consistently good and the employees are always very kind. The food is usually ready faster than they estimate when I order, but if I order as a walk in, they have a bench to sit on to wait. It appears to be clean and organized in there. The Good - About 80% of the items I ordered were well made, structurally speaking. The Bad - The one item that failed was the greasy egg roll. Which actually had flavor. The Ugly - I cannot complain that the food tasted bad. But between the soup, the noodles (almost everything but the egg roll) tasted...bland. Unimpressed with the food we ordered. I used to come here and it was the best! The crab Rangoon I got tonight was not good at all, the garlic chicken was long thin dices of chicken you'd use in rice and it was just overpowered by grilled onions. If I wanted grilled onions I would've ordered that- not one vegetable in the dish. My son got general tsos and it was more like a barbecue sauce. This place is always packed when we come. They do have a dining area to eat at. The dining area is pretty clean compared to other Chinese places. I got the combo platter with lo mein and pork fried rice. It was really good. Can't complain when you see their kitchen is clean and how they prepare the food. My daughter got the sweet and sour chicken. It was crispy on the outside and soft and rende in the inside. My husband got the general tso. That smelled and look good too. He said he likes to eat it there because you taste the full flavor of it. And it's still hot and crispy from when they fried it. Sorry I didn't take a picture of the general tso. We realized that we didn't have it on the tray. So we had to go back to the counter to get it. We also had ordered some shrimp egg foo young. Portion sizes keep shrinking!!! Lunch specials are kids meal size. Not to mention some of my pieces of chicken were STONE COLD while others were hot. They've definitely downsized A LOT. Walked in for dinner while wife had hair done. Ordered the chicken with garlic sauce and pork fried rice. Fast friendly service. The food had a lot to desired. Where is the pork in the fried rice? Just rice- that's it. As for the chicken they should call it onions with chicken. Picture says it all. No other vegetables except the spartan piece of celery. Very disappointing. Hands down the best Chinese food place in Connecticut. When you want quality quick Chinese food that's has minimal sodium compared to other Chinese places this is the place to go. Friendly staff and great clean restaurant for dining in or taking out. I got the chicken chow fun which has plenty of chicken and noodles. Perfect amount of salt which is a big trait for me when I want Chinese food. The sesame seed chicken was crispy and has tons of chicken. The chicken to breeding ratio is perfect. Other places bread the piece of chicken like crazy so all you're eating is breading but not sun suns. Finally the best thing is the boneless pork ribs. It's meaty with minimal fat and very tender.
