And this what 5-stars means to me: I call in my order. They don't ask for a name or anything and somehow, when I arrive they know exactly what I ordered and the order is 100% correct. No words are exchanged. The staff is so confident and cocky that they staple the bag shut and dare you to check your order. And it's like they anticipate the time it'll take you to get there as well. Food is ready right out the pot once you arrive. It just blows my mind how other take out spots screw up orders and China King gets it absolutely right with minimal discussion. And after the exchange, the so-called Chinese food is outrageous.....ly delicious. Not a thing on the menu is bad. They cook the whole entire menu like it's a life or death contest. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they invented sweet and sour sauce. And the fried wings, aka CFC for Chinese fried chicken, are crack. You hear me? Found myself craving Chinese food one day and stumbled upon China King during my search. I'm still struggling to find my casual Chinese spot in ATL that creates an overnight fan in me, so the journey continues. I ordered online via a delivery app and opted to pick it up in person. I was in the mood for some classic "NY-style" menu options that we've all come to know over the years. Sweet & Sour sauces, Shrimp with broccoli, all that. For this order, I decided to go with: Hot & Soup soup, Kung Pao chicken + fried rice, and veggie lo mein, nothing wild, just keeping it simple. My order came up to just under $30 and came with an egg roll on the side. After about 15-20min, I headed to their storefront for pickup with dreams of lounging on my couch with a glass (or 3) of Malbec and digging into my dinner. The exterior of China King doesn't scream, "Come in here and eat!", but you'll find it. Located in the Kroger plaza in East Atlanta, it's sandwiched between a few other dining spots and there are tons of parking spaces for all of the guests. Upon entry, the interior looks just like any other NY-style Chinese spot I've been to, down to the yellowing menus lol. Nostalgia! There was only one other customer inside who was sitting so I headed straight to the counter. I feel like I stood there for about 5min before anyone acknowledged that I was there, which made me cock my head a bit lol but when I was greeted, the young woman was quite nice. Picking up my order was seamless as it was ready and waiting. And I was out of there! Now, the food. The Hot & Sour Soup was amazing! Definitely a favorite of mine and it was a great way to kickoff the meal. I'll definitely be back for more. When I opened my entree, I wasn't happy to see that my fried rice was yellow. Yellow fried rice is always sketch to me (please let me know if I'm alone in this lol) and never tastes the same so I didn't eat it. ;( *shrugs* My chicken was good, but a bit too much breading to really indulge. The lo mein worked, but it was a bit greasy which isn't really a bad thing in my mind when it comes to lo mein sometimes lol. All in all, a 3.5 experience that I think is worthy of another try! I'll definitely be back for that Hot & Sour soup and I'll shoot for a dish that's a little lighter on me. read more

In terms of American Chinese takeout, this place is consistently good. There are some tables inside, but I recommend for takeout. The parking lot is shared with other businesses, including a Kroger. The food is good and typical for Americanized Chinese takeout. Staff is direct; don't look for friendly. However, if you know what to expect this place is consistent and delicious. read more

I absolutely LOVE Chinese Food so when I see a lil cook to order NY style spot I stop in! One of my fav on-the-go dishes is a pint of House Lo Mein and China King DID NOT disappoint! Had a craving for Chinese food since I was n the city today and found this place. Everything is hot when ordered so no worries about cold food. The fried wontons were delicious. My only issue was there wasn't enough beef in my beef and broccoli. Overall it was very good. I ordered from here on a random weeknight. I called first to place my order and the woman who answered was FAR from warm and friendly. After I said what I wanted, she hung up the phone. No "Your total is...." or "Come in 15 minutes...." NOPE, just a big fat hangup. Anyway, when I arrived my order was on the counter ready to go. I paid and like all Chinese take-out, it was still piping hot when I got home. Overall, the food was decent and the value is there but I found it to be average overall. China King is in the Kroger shopping center and is one of those places that I would probably never have checked out if I weren't starving and didn't feel like making anything for dinner. It looks a bit sketchy from the outside, but I was hangry and I was strongly encouraged to grab some food from here before I hurt somebody. This looks mostly like a takeout joint. There are some tables, but most of them were taken up by people waiting on their food. It usually only takes about 5 to 10 minutes for your food to be ready. I've ordered a variety of items here and this is pretty decent Americanized Chinese food. It's definitely better than the food I've had delivered from Burger Joy. The food is fairly cheap. I can get a huge meal for two for under $20 - multiple apps, soups, entrees. I'm particularly fond of their crab ragoons and the mongolian beef. There are plenty of sauces, napkins and plasticware at the end of the counter. Grab as many as your little heart could want. read more

I call in my order and she always knows my meal when I arrive to pick it up but she doesn't know my name. I like that this place is locally owned and on holidays her kids are working too. These people are some of the hardest working folks you'll ever see. The food is very good chinese food. The General Tso's chicken is some of the best I've ever had. The egg rolls are GIANT and delicious. If you're nice to them, they'll load you up on food. It took 2 people to close our container of General Tso's. The food is also served BLAZING hot. Yelp requires at least one star. This place, the nasty food, does not deserve ANY stars. Hunan chicken, and Kung Pao chicken were horrible. Both had a pink sauce. Ingredients look nothing like the pics hanging around the restaurant. They also forgot my beef in one dish, and it included all of the vegetables I told the cashier I do not like! Bad, just bad. We've ordered take out from here for close to five years. At first it was the best we could find in the area, and that wasn't saying much. The last three times have been horrible and I'm done giving them our business. First of all, they never ask for your name when you call in an order. Therefore if someone other than the one calling goes to pick it up, that person has to know everything that was ordered before they give it to you. PAIN! As there isn't much in the way of white meat chicken on the menu, I pretty much order apps and soup. The egg drop soup has become very bland - might as well drink water. The last two times the fried noodles (the only thing to provide flavor) were stale, like REALLY stale. This time, no noodles at all. Not sure which is worse. The spring rolls had a weird film that I thought was bad grease from the fryer but hubby's fried egg rolls tasted fine. So I don't know what that taste was but I threw out 1.75 spring rolls! I had half a container of water and a quarter of a bad spring roll. And fruit loops. Hubby said his General's chicken was okay but not worth ordering again. It had a strange gray color to it that I wouldn't even attempt to decipher. I guess if you don't look at what you're eating it can make a difference. Chicken and Broccoli every time! Parking can sometimes be a hassle since they are located toward the end of the plaza where parking tends to fan off. But, I feel it's worth it. I have yet to have a bad meal from here (knock on wood). I usually eat here on a whim. I am usually driving by and decide to stop or I am shopping at Kroger and decide to stop. I haven't ever called in an order, but when I walk-in the wait is usually never really that long. They are pretty straight forward and to the point when taking order and preparing your order. Don't forget your sauces and silverware at the end of the counter!!
