S31. Orange Flavor with Chicken lunch

Fast service, clean environment, good portions and good flavor. :) I would come here again.

This has always been my favorite restaurant in the area when I'm the mood for Chinese food hence the 3 stars .The quality has always been up to par but the quantity for $16.00 is seriously lacking . I placed an order last night (August 1st) for 4 wings with shrimp fried rice . Usually the rice is placed in a reusable bowl and the wings are placed separately in a foiled lined bag. On this visit both the rice and wings were placed in a large box , and this is where the quantity issue comes . The wings were the usual size no issue there but literally there was barely enough rice at the bottom for one serving. Being as the wings were packed in the same container as the rice it gave the illusion when buying a bag of chips , whereas the bag seems full but it mostly air at the top with a sprinkle of chips at the bottom. Only in this case I had 4 wings at the top with about 5-6 tablespoons of rice at the bottom.

Only good for their lunch special. I just got two of these large trays and 3 rolls for 42 bucks not even enough chicken. Just peanuts and veggies ..

    S74. Kung Po Chicken

Ordered Kung po chicken, fried dumplings, and an egg roll. This the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chicken was bland, the sauce was tasteless, and the dish was padded with veggies (See photo). It was a gruesome sight. The fried "dumplings" didn't resemble any foodstuff I've ever laid eyes on - it was only by the process of elimination that I was able figure out what they must be. Just for laughs, show the picture of the "dumpling" around and see if anyone can guess what it might be. Their sole saving grace was that they were crunchy - there was a dipping sauce included, a bland sweet and sour sauce complete with chunks of pineapple. I think the egg roll came from the Giant Hot Bar just before closing. I threw it all out it was so tasteless. The bag it came in was pretty delicious in comparison though.

Came here for lunch with a friend on a weekend. We ate family style and ordered the scallion…read morepancakes, the spicy sesame paste tofu, the spicy oil wonton pork, the chive and pork dumplings and the sesame balls (filled with red bean paste). Total (not including tip) came out to approximately $49. What's Hot - Menu. Excellent. It's also written in Chinese in addition to English. For those of us familiar with traditional ethnic Chinese food, a menu written in Chinese is a good sign. They have traditional Taiwanese and Chinese food like scallion pancakes, sesame balls, beef noodle soup, soup dumplings, etc... Very good variety and there appears to be something for everyone, possibly with the exception of vegan dishes.. - Quality. Pretty good. Their scallion pancake was soft, not too oily, and not too salty. I prefer the scallion pancake to have been a bit more thick and flaky, but that's my personal preference. To be fair, still delicious. Their chive and pork dumplings definitely had a delicious chive flavor. Substantial and the wrapper was not too thick. Their spicy sesame paste tofu had a good flavor and substantive. The chili oil wontons were not too spicy and had a good flavor. Again, my personal preference would have been for the dumplings to have been more substantive, but still pretty decent. - Service. Pretty good. It appears most, if not all their staffers, speak Chinese (Mandarin), which was also helpful, because I specifically ordered in Chinese. I asked them about the spice level, because I wanted to ensure it would not be too spicy for my friend. - Price. Pretty good value for menu and portions. - Location. It's pretty easy to find. Also within convenient walking distance to the Silver Spring metro. The inside space is pretty good. Tables can seat a minimum of 2, all the way up to 8. What's Not - Quality. The sesame balls are smaller than I expected. They're the rough approximation of a ping pong ball, maybe smaller. I was disappointed, because I like sesame balls that are substantial. - Service. I specifically asked for soup spoons, because we were eating dumplings. Instead, they gave me regular spoons. Not all the dishes come out in the order you hope. For example, main dishes may come out before the appetizers. This is going to be dependent on your personal preference. - Parking. There is parking near the restaurant, but it's going to be dependent on the day and time. Final Answer Worth coming back.

None of us were from this area, and we intended to go to the Mayflower Chinese Restaurant, based on Yelp reviews. However, once we walked in the door, it was apparent this place was focused on carryout, and there was no way we were staying to eat in their dingy entrance area. We walked next door to the Meleket Ethiopian restaurant. However, the place was deserted, and we didn't stay there either. We tried the Lime & Cilantro, the next place down, but it was packed and couldn't handle our group. So, we skipped past the verernary clinic and went to Spring Garden. And, what a great choice that was. They offer a huge menu of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese meals. Everything is reasonably priced. Once we got our food, we were impressed with the quality and portion sizes. And, through it all, the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered Hot and Sour soup (my bellwether for Chinese restaurants) and beef chow fun. The soup was flavorful without being overpowering, and the chow fun was delicious too. I liked everything so much that I ordered another soup and Thai Basil with Chicken to go, and that's been my lunch for the past couple of days. Don't be put off by the seediness of its location. Spring Garden is a great place to grab some tasty, reasonably priced food, either to eat in or take away.
