Tomato egg noodle and classic beef noodle
    Leslie C.

This place has amazing noodle. So glad I found it again. The 10mm noodle was probably too thick. I'll go for at most 5mm next time and 2cm is perfect as well. Taste wise the soup of the classic beef noodle soup is just okay. I'll try something different next time like the jajiang noodle. The egg and tomato was delicious since I like the classic tomato on egg :) we did take out but otherwise the ambiance of the restaurant is cute! We ordered online for the 10% off and the food was ready in 20 mins. Great!

Solid and decently filling China (mainland) style noodles place in Kerrisdale. Parking is available on the side streets, as well as some metered spots in front. The dining area is on the 2nd floor, with a flight of stairs. Wheelchair customers beware. The dining room looks almost Japanese, with the blank walls and the light wood trim. Staff were friendly and helpful. This place makes their own noodles. There are several thicknesses available, from 1.2mm to 10mm. One can watch the chef work their magic through the window. Who said this kind of noodle making only happens at fancy places. The lamb skewers are solid. Juicy and covered in cumin. If they weren't so pricey I'd eat 30 of these things in one sitting. The lamb noodles had a decent kick as well, without being insanely spicy. Quite flavourful. The signature dish here is their soup noodles. My friends ordered this thing. Price is good, and the portion is quite large. I will have to come by again and try sometime. Definitely will be back at some point. Recommended.

If you are in the mood for authentic Chinese hand pulled beef noodles, this is the place. The noodles are nicely pulled, very bouncy when you chew on it. Get the classic pull thickness, it absorbs the flavours more.

This was legitimately my last meal in a restaurant for a while. Stopped going out pretty much right after visiting here due to Covid. As my last meal sitting inside of a foreign place, it was pretty good all things considered. Grabbed the beef noodle. You stop in, order first at the counter, and then grab a seat. Definitely a bit of a change from most places. I really dig being able to order the thickness of your noodles. The chefs are visible in their kitchen and you can see them go about getting the noodles ready for the specific order. I liked the food as a whole overall. The broth was a nice clean clear one and there were sauces on the side to adjust if necessary. I enjoyed the side dish of beef that I got with my order. The noodles were awesome. I enjoy thicker chunks and it was nice to have that on hand too. The beef was good, but I wish I got chunkier pieces instead of small cube block portions. That's really the only complaint I had. Great experience and food overall here. Hope to be able to come back in future and have another delicious bowl of beef noodles here soon.

This is one of my favourite noodle houses in town. If you are a hand-pulled noodle lover like me, do not hesitate to visit this spot. Yummy thick or thin noodles, good service, reasonable price. Metered parking on street.

pretty authentic, soup is a little too salty. they go up to 10mm too which is super cool

I have walked by this restaurant countless times and today, I wanted to give it a try. Called the restaurant twice but there was no answer. One of the staff called me back and I learned later there were taking other takeout orders on the phone. I started by letting her know I have never tried their food and to make it a bit more challenging, I don't eat beef. She offered 2 other options and I went with the Braised Chicken over handmade flat noodles. It is not in a soup based but instead tossed with the sauce from the braised chicken. There are chunks of potatoes along with red and green bell peppers. I was asked what size noodles I would like for this dish and since I had no idea, I asked the server to make a recommendation. I am so glad she did and was confident about it. It is the worst when you ask your server to recommend something and they will say, "Oh, depends on what you like!" As much as I get that, sometimes we, the 'diners' are just looking for some guidance. I did really like the handmade noodles. It was slightly soft yet chewy just like how I had expected it. It wasn't overly thick and the sauce was lightly seasoned leaving the focus on the noodles. Then, she asked if I would like a side dish or a drink. Didn't even crossed my mind but I thought, why not? I went with the cold cucumber salad. I love it. It was slightly salty, garlicky and there are slices of onions in it but surprisingly wasn't overpowering. I would definitely re-order this dish. My overall experience was the girls that worked here are extremely polite and pleasant. They are a young bunch but they have manners and they show appreciation to every patrons. This is good work ethics and I will be sure to be back to try other non beef items. Thank you for the wonderful experience tonight.

An interesting layout of ordering first at the counter, going upstairs with your number and finding a seat, and then going up to pay at a counter. Nonetheless, the noodle soup here is comforting. It doesn't feel too oily or overly salty. I went for their signature beef noodle combo. This came with a tea egg and spiced tendon. They ask if you want chili oil and cilantro on top. Another customization is the thickness of noodles. I went for the thickest at 10mm. After ordering, we went upstairs. There were plenty of tables to choose from. At the back of the restaurant was a large window, so that you could see right into the kitchen. Not too long after, our food arrived. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the beef tendon. The English translation didn't match up with what I thought I was getting. The pieces of meat we're ok, but I think it wasn't as good because it wasn't what I was expecting. However, the tea egg was full of flavour and something I would probably get again. For the noodles soup, it was pretty good. The noodles tasted a bit overcooked though and didn't have the chew that I wanted. The broth wasn't too heavy and the beef was cut into smaller chunks. It was easier to eat, but some pieces were just fat. Overall, I think the ordering and paying system is a bit weird. But the food is alright. If you're looking for a comforting bowl of noodle soup in Kerrisdale, this place might be it.

Yummy noodles --freshly handpulled but everything else just lacked flavour. You're able to see the chefs pull and cook the noodles as there is a big glass window that separates the kitchen and seating area. Cute interior and layout of the restaurant. You order first and then get seated upstairs. The food arrived very quickly but was nothing crazy special. My friends got beef noodle soups and a stir fried noodle. I got the tomato and egg noodle. We all agreed that it wasn't bad but it was amazing either--just okay. I personally enjoy more savoury and saucy food and so I don't foresee myself coming back a lot as there are other beef noodle/Taiwanese noodle places in Vancouver that satisfy my preferences. Anyways, a little bland for my personal taste but not bad! Check it out if you're ever in Kerisdale for a quick meal

I was truly hoping this to be a good experience; from previous reviews this place seems to be an authentic Lan Zhou Beef Noodle place but since Im not from Mainland, I cannot be the judge for that, but I do know if the noodle taste good or not. First of all, the place was almost deserted when we went in during dinner service hours, the entrance consist of a long counter and one employee, all the time the person behind the counter was busy with her phone and did not pay any attention to us when we entered, I was hoping she would explain a bit about the food they serve and some recommendations etc. alas there was none, all she said was: "you order here and pick a number and find a table." OK, we followed her instructions; soon after we sat down we were checking out the rest of the space, its really no nonsense, just wooden tables with benches, customers can see through the glass enclosed open kitchen. A few kitchen staff were also busy looking at their phones, well, I guess when there are no customers thats what everyone does nowadays! Soon after our first dish came; we ordered a 2 item combo cold appetizer: Black Cloud's Ear Fungus in Garlic Vinegar dressing, they were both very bland and all I can taste is salt and some MSG.1/5 Noodles arrive: Braised Chicken Noodles, the chicken pieces were boneless, also there is a few pieces of uncooked potatoes (maybe thats the way it supposed to be), red and green peppers and some chilli oil. Basically, there is nothing that required any skill to put this dish together (except for the noodles), very disappointed.1/5 Comes the main character of this restaurant: Lan Zhou Beef Noodles, the look may be deceiving as it actually looks really good! I was hoping that since this is what they are famous for (supposed to be), at least they have something that I will enjoy and come back just for that item, one sip of the soup and my wish was shattered, again, the soup tasted just like salt and water and some MSG. No depth and no hint of beef flavour, I do appreciate that they made the soup very clear and this is how it should be but lack of any flavour cannot properly support the fresh noodles they created. I order (thin : 1.5mm) noodles and I find mine to be over cooked, the beef dices were also salty and lack of flavour. Anyways, I do hope they will improve on their service and food quality, as Lan Zhou Beef Noodle has a very good potential to being another very popular type of Asian Soup Noodles that will join the ranks of Vietnamese Pho, Japanese Ramen and Taiwanese Beef Noodles: they all have become a staple in the North American food scene.

After a most disappointing noodle outing at Chi 'Noodle Bar', my expectations are kept well in check for China Lan. I'm glad to report this is a far better experience than the aforementioned. Noodles are made on the premises (with at least 6 different widths to choose from) hence the texture is just right and definitely not too chewy. For just $3.99 you get to order 3 side dishes and the portion is more than generous. Benches from Ikea are not the most comfortable seats for dining but good thing we didn't have to wait long for our order to arrive. Corridor to the washrooms in the back is almost pitch dark and level of cleanliness also leaves a bit to be desired.

Signature beef noodle with extra beef and shredded potato

This is a nice clean renovated noodle place in Kerrisdale area. You first walk in and order from downstairs booth then you walk a flight of stairs, couple of steps to go in to dining areas. You get a number and wait for your food upstairs with servers walking around. There is a window in the dining area where you can watch the chef pull some noodles in action. I ordered the signature beef noodle combo with the small dish shredded potato. The soup flavour was clean and very well balanced with flavour. It was not too spicy and it was the same with the spicy shredded potato. The meat portion is a little small with small cut up cubes. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in the area craving beef noodle. Overall, I would give this place 8.5/10 and they have very friendly staff. Very clean and tidy inside with good services

    classic beef noodle soup

I've visited this restaurant for several times, and the stars are based on my first-time eating experience. That was most amazing as I ordered classic beef noodles. Although they did serve diced beef instead of sliced beef that are closer to classic northwestern Chinese noodle style, the lean beef, beef fat and noodle soup integrate well. This fusion reminded me of my childhood flavor-comforting and warm! As regards other types of noodles, they are less impressive than the classic noodle soup. Despite the second thinnest noodle type I selected with the tomato noodle, it still tasted dry and rough. So next time I would go straight for classic noodle soup. Compared to their classic beef or lamb noodle soup, their service quality is OK. The first time after I made an order and stepped into the eating area, a waiter came up to serve some water and asked if guests need anything else. But at the second time, when a waiter noticed my coming, he was organizing the teller and inattentively asked me if I need any drink. Since I didn't want to interrupt his organizing act, I replied to him I didn't need any drink at that point. Until I ate half of the dry noodles in the bowl, I asked another waiter to fetch a glass of water. If you wanna try traditional Chinese noodles with a reasonable price in Kerrisdale area or UBC area, I would recommend beef and/or lamb noodle soup of this restaurant.

The ordering system is similar to Ichiran Ramen; you can choose the noodle firmness, broth consistency, spiciness, green onions, oil level, and MSG amount . The basic ramen is only $13. I added a soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage for $2 each. Although the pickled cabbage is really expensive , I can't help it, I'm a pickled cabbage addict! The pickled cabbage paired with the rich tonkotsu broth was refreshing. The broth was flavorful but not greasy, the noodles were chewy and springy, and the portion size was just right. Now i love those seeds but it was way too much for my liking. Too much seeds to chew on. They also do not put any vegetables on like Hawaii does. Everything is ala carte and that adds up. I simply chose the ramen version without all the add ons. The broth was yummy but again with the loaded seeds, it made it challenging to just drink the soup. I will say, Hawaii has by far better ramen, but this place was ok too. Pricey for for what you get though.

I've had Jinya twice now and enjoyed it both times! The classic ramen is my favourite so far. We also had the crunchy cucumber salad which Wes tasty but wanted abit of a kick of spice to it. And we got the spicy creamy shrimp tempura which is exactly like an ebi mayo which was so delicious! Great sauce great crunch factor! Service is always fast! You may find a line when you go but they try their best to seat you as quickly as they can. The atmosphere is usually always buzzing and the have great alcoholic and non alcoholic drink options! Will be back for sure.
